I just happened to see that Vice video today myself…and as a counselor at a methadone clinic I was upset with the things I heard. What bothered me were the things these people said about MAT centers. All we do is “increase increase increase” people’s doses. That’s the absolute opposite of what we do! In order to get an increase in ones methadone dose a patient has to A) request it B) must see a counselor first to discuss why they want to increase C) we counselors will then decide whether to forward their request to the centers medical staff! To hear these kids make these statements about MAT clinics drives me crazy. Our small clinic has 8 counselors, a supervisor, a director, 2 nurses and a doctor and are regulated by so many State and local agencies we have an extremely high standard to meet. The only ones asking to “increase increase increase” are the patients who continue to use opiates while attending the clinic and eventually we catch them with our weekly random urine drops!

Maybe at your clinic but i have been to multiple and that’s exactly what they do. The last clinic had me up to 350 mg which i have never heard of in my life and their reasoning was that the fentanyl was so much stronger(it is) that i had to go up that high. I ended up walking away from 350 mg and was absolutely fine with my regular use and felt nothing at all. They most certainly do just bring you up up up and you get extremely minimal actual counseling or care at all. Idk where you work but that is the norm. You explain it like it is so organized but it isn’t, yes there are a ton of state standards but usually these places are so overrun with clients and counselors have such a big caseload that people don’t get the care they need/deserve. That is my experience at multiple clinics located in large cities in Connecticut.

But I've read and seen Anecdotal reports from people who've gotten treatment and it has worked amazing for people who decide to go through the process. As long as they don't have heart issues since it can be heard on the heart.

@korn-tv2032 I live near Chicago and I've seen more clinics that work how hes described above than I have the ones that irresponsibly dispense extremely high doses. Im very lucky to have had a great counselor who helped me get up to a dose that was comfortable before encouraging me to fully switch over to taking methadone. Its not easy to switch over to methadone and my counselor was patient, understanding, and encouraging throughout the process. It wasn't her job to be my AA or NA sponsor or my therapist, it was to make MAT work for me and her other clients. Addiction is addiction is addiction. Drinking or drugs it's all the same. Alcohol and drugs are a symptom of addiction. After the physical is taken care of with abstinence then the mental obsession must be handled, which is hard (if not impossible) when you are still using mind/mood altering chemicals.

Cannabis brings on withdrawals if your reducing on opiates. Thats that ive experienced i think people changing to Cannabis would go back to heroin straight away because no paranioa with opiates. I don't think it will work and it is deceptive to say Cannabis is helping people quit opiates. If your no a higher dose of opiates Cannabis increases the opiates effectiveness. So giving people Cannabis in withdrawals i dont think thats a great idea. If this is what it's about.

Everyone is different. One thing I've noticed is that weed doesn't work for alleviating H withdrawal. In fact, it may makes things more severe. However, after the heavy withdrawal is over, and you only feel anxiety and depression, weed can be helpful. Of course, not all weeds are equal. Some relax you; others will bring on the paranoia and make anxiety worse. Still, with the right weed, I was able to help myself the first few weeks. This decreased my RLS by like 80%, which was huge for me. It also helped me relax and avoid the chemicals doctors like to pound us with. After almost a month, I stopped the weed. I'm coming up on a year soon. God bless, my friend.

Oh and we also learned that cross addiction is a very real thing, so replacing it with Weed is in my opinion very dangerous!

As someone who has lost a father to an od, has a brother in active addiction, and someone who has dealt with addiction myself I 100% know that sometimes pot is the only answer. In order to get off of opioids your central nervous needs to relax. If you're unable to do that organically you need to force your central nervous system into rest and digest. Pot is the easiest and safest way to do this without side effects.

Weed does help for the withdrawls after the worst symptoms subside , that’s if you taper, if you can’t take your withdrawls then taper first. Stay hydrated and force yourself to exercise and eat as well as hydrate and go outside for sunlight, exercising while it sounds stupid bc you’re so fatigued will actually fix your fatigue it sounds like it’s never work but there’s science behind it, part of why we get paws is because our brains forgot how to make endorphins, natural endorphins while pale in comparison to artificial ones, will still alleviate most withdrawl symptoms at least temporarily this is especially true for paws and it will speed up the process to getting your brain fog cleared and pleasure back

We do need more opioid replacement drugs to be approved to help stabilize people who don’t respond well to methadone or suboxone. Canada prescribes long acting morphine and has had a lot of success with it but the drug laws are so ass backwards here in the us that we are still focused on punishing drug users so we have a long way to go.

I’m sceptical too. But lack of evidence of efficacy is not evidence of lack of efficacy. The chemical basis of w/d is a large part elevated cAMP levels in the brain Thc dose dependently reduces cAMP . It also could address the elevated pain during w/d . Lastly it raises levels of endorphins slightly ( beta endorphin and dynorphin ) that could make things slightly easier. The theory if it is sound scientifically it’s just not proven . The only conclusion is more research needed. What you could have though is relapse and now they are dependent on 2 medications. Or do they transition to thc and at a later date stop taking that ( would be significantly easier that tapering off the traditionally used medications for detox potentialy )

It really does, but I think people go into it unrealistically thinking it will take away the worst of acute withdrawl it’s more of a tool to help as your symptoms subside imo weed never worked the first 24-48 hours as well as it did after that. That being said if you have an affinity to weed and don’t want to swap an addiction, Exercise, Sunlight, Hot Showers, Water, Protein AND Magnesium+ high dose vit C WILL HELP

hi dr B i used marihuana sorta as as an intermediate to stop using amphetamines ghb crack cocaine and it did work for that but my brain did got more susceptible to psychosis. about the methadone when i started methadone i thought it was a miracle i was stoned everyday for free. but now i havve to pick it up every single day by my local pharmacy( i live in holland tis more liberal here) and have to have higher doses over time and still the methadone works shorter and shorter and every day i wake up with mild withdawals so there is something to say for weed but when i watched the vice episode i was afraid for the client to get psychotic or have anxiety attacks but maybe they used an indica strain but still it seems quite dangerous. the problem is doctors wont up your dose very easily when ur in 100 mg range cuz of qtc prolongation. thank you for your amazing channel dr b

Weed will not stop withdrawal. However, it helped me after the hard withdrawal, especially with anxiety and RLS. After a ten day detox using the induction method, I had no physical withdrawal, but the anxiety was bad. Weed helped immensely.

      @OdelinSerrano-zu5fo 2 месяца назад

@@XRROW_ Dr B has a good description of the method in one very good video. His channel "Addition Recovery" has a ton of good stuff on the issues. The induction method is a way of detoxing that was my way of breaking the curse. I did it in my home, away from the stressing hospital stays. It works by slowly introducing Suboxone into the body, starting with as little as .25 Mg. Over the course of a week, I increased the dosage. I went to 3mg × 2 and immediately worked backwards, stopping the street stuff on that day. By day twelve or so, I was off Suboxone. Of course, that's when the real work begins. Getting off is the ez part. Key tip: quitting should not be an option in recovery. Every time you fall, just get back up with more motivation, as recovery is a lifelong commitment, for there is NO CURE for addiction. God bless you, my friend.

@@XRROW_ in a nutshell, it's the slow introduction and gradual increase in dosage of Suboxone. A large dose will cause immediate withdrawal. But, with a slow buildup, a person can stop the street stuff after a few days without feeling the sickness. It worked well for me. Good luck.

Traditional rehab drives so many folks away, and you end up paying a second mortgage over it. If it works for you, fantastic, but it really isn't efficient when it comes time to pay.
The problem with marijuana for treatment is how completely differently it reacts from person to person. On top of that, if each marijuana dosage is the same, the outcomes are different for each dose. It isn't understood to be a stable medication as of yet.

On the "Vice" piece...Beau/Bo has been on methadone for a decade & took his last dose just before going to the "farm." The problem with this is that a longterm methadone user has a metabolic resevoir of the substance. Ergo physical withdrawal will not even begin to the 8th day (on average) of sbstinence. The sum result is that Beau/Bo is not even in danger of physical withdrawal for another week. It seems that Vice did not even research. It just put out pro-cannabis propaganda. Nothing wrong with THC but it is not able to prevent physical manifestations of withdrawal.

Methadone doesn't define what addiction is - that's not the point - these folks are going thru hell trying to get off the methadone - and that's the whole point of the episode. Its not weather being on methadone is considered addiction, or is equally dangerous as running around in the street doing other drugs.
Dr. B - you're missing the whole point completely. These folks got fed up being stuck on methadone and just felt like it was time to get off - but the WD of methadone is 10x worse than the worst illicit opioid on the street. And it lasts 4x as long . You literally go into hallucinations during Methadone WD from SEVERE physical and mental pain.

Also just want to point out that capitalism isn’t what all of us want. Most people just want to be happy and healthy and enjoy life. It is the profit motive of corporations that is driving capitalism and most of us have no control over that. Unless you live in a swing state your vote doesn’t count on a national level so our impact on the system is very minimal at best and non existent in some circumstances.

Dr.B- I have a question for you. (If anyone can give me advice) I would appreciate it more than you know. I’ll be short- I’ve been on Suboxone for 5 years. Finally done with the pill popping. The Suboxone is very expensive for me. I heard of a medicine called Naltrexone. My insurance will cover Naltrexone. Q. Can I make the change? Switch? Do I need to get the Suboxone out of my system first? By stop taking it for a day or so before I start the Naltrexone? The answer to this question could really save me a lot of money. I thank you again, and pray that someone answers this question.

I have yet to hear this physician say a single thing that I disagree with! He is almost spot on when he says that MAT/OST is the true gold standard. It is limited in its success for a number of reasons. The most glaring reason is that methadone is chemically unable to produce euphoria. On the other end of the dial is buprenorphine.. It has a realtively low metabolic ceiling of between 20 & 24mg. The true winning formula is Heroin Assisted Therapy. Places like Vienna & Switzerland come close with allowing more substances, morphine for example. Canada hits it on the head.
As for "Vice," I lost all respect when they did an expose in Israel about so called "Settlers." It is not worth a whole lot when it comes to journalism.
