You know that feeling when it's midnight you can't sleep, you're on spotify, you decide looking for a lesson on youtube and see that Paul Davids Already made a cover Man That Feeling!
This is so good.Coldplay have so many different songs with different unconventional tunings like in oceans, sparks, god put a smile upon your face, etc. It would be amazing if you could decode the theory, process behind them beautiful chords
Thank you so so so so much for putting this tutorial out! I always dreamed about paying this song the way Chris Martin does! Also how did you find the tuning he is using? (he always uses strange-but beautiful- tunings) how do you figure them out?
If you have experience on different voicings, chord shapes and their subtle sound differences, you might figure that out by ear. For a typical, beautiful coldplay ballad sound, (and a lot of pop/rock songs btw) it is all about the pedal notes. Paul has also a video on pedal notes. So you use open strings, dependent on the songs root note (e.g. root and fifth) and just play them all the time, to every other chord. Coldplay really do that in almost every song. These notes often help to figure out the tuning. Another thing coldplay do all the time is what the bass does with the G chord here (the second one played) - it plays an E underneath, forming an Eminor7 chord + the pedal notes on top. That is the kind of chord you can hear in almost every coldplay ballad. ;)
great tutorial as always, thanks. It seem like the song is half step down than the original. i placed the capo on 4th and then it sounds in sync with the original

Perfect ! You said D instead of E tho on the lowest string with the tuning. E is what you were using
one of coldplay’s best songs. Wondering why it didn’t get the attention it deserves.

Is the electric part in standard tuning?
How does Chris Martin come up with these tunings and make such amazing songs?
Tuning and trying.

Subbed
when I play the Asus, it sounds different from yours and I am having a hell of a time playing the A with my thumb on the 6th string. ::sigh::
How am i suppose to płace those three thingers together hahah i dont have enough space
Pretty sure that you’re 6th string is still tuned to E not D
Please can you do tutorial fix you
jajaj, Muy Bueno!:D
Somehow i don't get the tuning right :( it just doesnt sound good
Whoops, I just realized that the lowest string is an E. So from low to high: "E - A - D - F# - A - E" Sorry for the mistake, it was a long day ;-)
oh thats okay! thank you!
Great tutorial but it sounds terrible when i play it hahhaha
Whats the use of this tutorial if I cant even tune my guitar like that?!?!
