I'm pretty sure that's the bass playing with an Electro Harmonix Bass Micro Synth Pedal. They use that pedal for a growly fuzz-like, deep bass sound in huge moments. If you've ever heard the isolated bass track for "King of My Heart", at the last Chorus they kick that on. It sounds crazy by itself, but in a band mix it sounds amazing!

The bass is also playing through 2 sounds... Aguilar Jackhammer and an Ampeg bass head and mixed between the distortion and clean settings.
Huge sound when all mixed together.
