  • I’d like to say a special thanks to the girls in the Ribes Enllaç booking office for going the extra mile to obtain permission for me to mount a camera on the front of the train, I’d also like to thank the driver for his help in making this video possible.
    With the camera mounted on the front of the train this video covers the complete return trip back to Ribes de Freser showing the spectacular views usually only the driver gets to see.
    The Núria Rack Railway is located in the Pyrenees mountains in the north Catalonian region of Spain, it was opened in 1931 to serve the Vall de Núria mountain resort, it is the highest rack railway in Southern Europe rising more than 1,000 metres over its 12.4 km length, starting from Ribes Enllaç, adjacent to the Renfe station on the Barcelona-Puigcerdà railway line and finishing at Núria (altitude 1,964 metres)
    The railway is the only means of transport to the car free mountain resort of Vall de Núria, located in the county of Ripollès. The train journey takes around 40-minutes serving two intermediate stations at Ribes-Vila and Queralbs located just after the start of the rack section and also the furthest point that can be reached by road.
    Since opening on March 22nd 1931 the1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in) gauge line has been electrified at 1500 V DC via an overhead power supply. It became part of the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) on January 2nd 1984. The first 5.5 km (3.4 miles) of the line is operated as a
    conventional adhesion railway with the remainder of the line operating as a rack railway using the Abt system with a maximum gradient of 15%.
    Track Gauge - 1,000 mm (3 ft 3+3⁄8 in)

    What a fantastic video. Stunning views of the mountains and valleys. But my thoughts are with the men who built this railway in all that terrain probably in horrible weather conditions and some of them losing their lives in the progress. I would like to thank the two ladies in the ticket office for letting you get permission to use a camera in the cab of the train.

    • @Timsvideochannel1
      @Timsvideochannel1  Год назад +1

      Hello James, the original route was even more hair raising, the long tunnels replaced a ledge cut around the cliff face that used to carry the railway. Navvies had a tough life and their legacy is a credit there hard work and bravery, one slip could have resulted in serious injury or even the loss of life. I was quite taken back by the ladies in the ticket office, they really went the extra mile to help me.

    Gràcies Tim per aquest meravellós vídeo del nostre tant entranyable i estimat cremallera de Núria. Si teniu la oportunitat de visitar la zona no dubteu ni un minut en realitzar l'excursió fins la Vall de Núria, un indret on només es pot arribar en l`esmentat cremallera o a peu. Si la vostra forma física us ho permet feu el trajecte a peu des de Queralbs ( últim poble on podreu arribar en el vostre cotxe ) fins al Santuari de Núria tot seguint el "camí vell de Núria". És una ruta espectacular que us permetrà gaudir del paisatge en tot el seu esplendor, sobretot perquè des de la inauguració del llarg túnel que es veu en el vídeo ( per motius de seguretat ) el trajecte en tren ha perdut una part de la seva espectacularitat original. El retorn fins a Queralbs el podeu fer en el cremallera i així us estalvieu el trajecte a peu de tornada.

    • @Timsvideochannel1

      Hola, gràcies pel teu comentari, m'alegro que t'hagi agradat el vídeo. Per al benefici dels parlants d'anglès, he traduït i publicat la teva resposta perquè la informació que has donat és interessant i és probable que sigui útil per a altres visitants.
      Thank you Tim for this wonderful video of our very endearing and beloved rack Núria. If you have the opportunity to visit the area, don't hesitate for a minute to make the excursion to Vall de Núria, a place that can only be reached by the aforementioned zip line or on foot. If your physical condition allows it, make the journey on foot from Queralbs (the last town you can reach in your car) to the Santuari de Núria following the "old road of Núria". It is a spectacular route that will allow you to enjoy the landscape in all its splendour, especially because since the inauguration of the long tunnel seen in the video (for safety reasons) the train journey has lost part of its original spectacularity . You can return to Queralbs on the zip line and thus save yourself the journey back on foot.
