Artimus Pyle keeps the beat throughout the entire song. He is a great drummer, but sometimes overlooked because everybody in the band was so damn good.
There's never been another band before or after that played like Skynyrd. Its impossible to know how much great music we lost out on because of that plane crash.
@@therealxunil2 Agreed with your take on the ENERGY. If that crowd could have been hooked up to a storage battery, Oakland would STILL be using the amperage to power the city lights! You know what's about to happen once you see that brunette gal who's wearing aviator sun glasses start clapping her hands over her head. Oh yeah, and when you see the roll of toilet paper get thrown in the crowd. Those hippie chicks are now grandmas! That'll really put things in perspective, eh?!
If I leave here tomorrow Would you still remember me? For I must be traveling on now 'Cause there's too many places I've got to see But if I stay here with you, girl Things just couldn't be the same 'Cause I'm as free as a bird now And this bird you cannot change Oh, oh, oh, oh And the bird you cannot change And this bird, you cannot change Lord knows, I can't change Bye-bye baby, it's been sweet love, yeah, yeah Though this feelin' I can't change But please don't take it so badly 'Cause Lord knows, I'm to blame But if I stay here with you, girl Things just couldn't be the same 'Cause I'm as free as a bird now And this bird you cannot change Oh, oh, oh, oh And the bird you cannot change And this bird, you cannot change Lord knows, I can't change Lord help me, I can't change Lord, I can't change Won't you fly high, free bird, yeah Thanks guys
GOATS...Legends of rock and guitars..❤️ Sadly their plane crashed killing the lead singer and some back up singers and disabling several band members.😒
I was a huge fan and I was in 9th grade when the plane crash happened. My girlfriend and I were so into them along with several other bands of course. But the news of it was simply devastating. Everyone felt so crushed. Back then people consumed movies or at least knew movies when they came out at Movie theaters. Also drive-ins. Before the movie gets going, they didn't have all the ads like they do today but simply a little cartoon animation to push you to go to the concession stand and buy some popcorn and hot dogs and soda, but they did usually have several previews of coming attractions just like today. There is a while after the plane crash, they managed to put together quickly about an eight or nine minute or maybe it was 12 minutes short documentary about the band and the plane crash and then I think it concluded with a live version of Freebird or something or at least parts of it. And they would play that in the movie theaters across the country instead of previews of coming attractions. That's how big of an impact it had on an awful lot of us. It was so sad. The band was done. There have been various incarnations of the band after that with few to none of the original members and it's not the real Lynyrd Skynyrd by any stretch. I guess it's good that they do it but it's really nothing more than just a tribute band. Luckily, Lynyrd Skynyrd left us with a huge catalog to enjoy and be impressed by. And they influenced countless other bands.
@@stevedahlberg8680 Sadly, besides Ronnie, the lead singer and one of the other lead guitarists, Steven Gaines and his sister Cassie Gaines were killed. Others that died were the assistant band manager, the pilot and co-pilot. Artimus Pyle, the drummer was seriously injured, but survived a long with many other band members and entourage.
I fwded it to 5 minutes in and my fam looked bored and had no idea what was coming. 😂 Then they lit up 🔥 when the guitar solo started kicking in full gear 🤣❤️Love it! ❤️❤️🔥
Did you see that final clip in the video? Back in the days when you could pass a joints back and forth in the audience, laugh. The other thing so striking about this old footage, and I grew up during this period and went to a lot of concerts and played in bands and stuff, is that you don't see any cell phones amongst all that insanely huge crowd of people. Nothing, that one lady was clutching a wallet or something. That's it. They didn't exist yet and they wouldn't exist for so many more years after this. People were less distracted at shows. On the other hand, there isn't a ton of footage floating around like there is of anything notable nowadays because we have our cameras with us everywhere we go. Totally different time back then. But boy did they know how to rock. And they also have some really powerful ballads as well. You should listen to some of their Studio cuts. They have several albums and tons and tons of hits. The musicianship is just out of this world but they were also innovators and creative. They Call Me The Breeze is another rowdy fan favorite. The studio version is awesome but I'm sure there are some great live versions out there as well.
first time I saw a picture of them on the cover of the album, back in the early 80s,. I remember thinking .....these are some ugly rough dudes, they didnt appear "freindly". Nah, they was REAL. Genuinne no gimmicks No Bs , true to their craft take it or leave it.
How can they sit there nodding off like it’s past their bedtime, when the guitar riff comes on from free bird…..they are either stoned out of their mind, or in a functioning coma.
Yes Ronnie was a good song writer but people forget about Ed King from skynyrds early days. He was mostly responsible for their greatest hit. Truly a forgotten talent
ALWAYS listen to the original studio recording masterpiece sessions of any legendary artist of the classic progressive rock era IT MAKES NO SENSE TO NOT LISTEN TO THE EXACT REASON why it became part of peoples souls otherwise you ruin your virgin listen and you are hearing some version always different if you want to understand HEAR EXACTLY WHAT YOU WERE MEANT TO LIKE WE ALL DID not some random live wont watch bye
I tricked my kids when they were little that this was the national anthem The piano player was a rodie who was to embarressed to tell the redneck band he played piano. When the guys went to lunch he wrote the piano music for this song & they heard him playing & went right into recording
I grew up listening to these guys, never another like them........I still mourn the loss of this group

Welcome to the world of Southern Rock, three guitars no waiting.
The fact their live performance is almost if not as good as studio version is a testament to their skill.
True but the audio quality detracts from this particular performance. I wish it was better for them.
In my opinion this is better than the studio in some ways. The energy is sky high. It’s awesome.

@@pipermccool same for me....
This truely one of the greatest moments in rock history
Best guitar solo ever.
Solos.
The girl in the front row in the yellow tank top had no way of knowing she'd be an internet star in 46 years.😂
Everyone needs to feel the Freebird vibe. Always
"The South's Anthem", another 70's tune that changes direction and Goes off similar is the Group Blackfoot, "Highway Song".
They are the greatest. 🎶🥰🎶🥰
You should check out Tuesdays Gone and Simple Man. Ronnie VanZant was one of the greatest song writers of all time.
This was their gift to mankind right before their plane crashed
Great reaction y’all!
I kept thinking: all those women!!!
All those foxy grandmas!
Can't believe u never heard this. One of the best bands rip.
Loved the reaction 😀
Look at all the sunburn's! 😂
And we are all grandparents now. I was 17 in 1977. What a great time to be young.
This time will never be again
You should react to Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd. (studio version)

Bye-bye baby, it's been sweet love, yeah, yeah
Though this feelin' I can't change
But please don't take it so badly
'Cause Lord knows, I'm to blame
But if I stay here with you, girl
Things just couldn't be the same
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now
And this bird you cannot change
Oh, oh, oh, oh
And the bird you cannot change
And this bird, you cannot change
Lord knows, I can't change
Lord help me, I can't change

Gary the guitarist you see playing alongside the lead singer Ronnie Van Zant and the drummer are the only two alive.
Its pronounced Linard Skinard. One of the best southern rock bands from the 70's. 😊
🔥🔥🔥
I recommend listening to 'The Police' especially the Album, 'Ghost in the machine'.

So sad that the lead singer died along with others shortly after making the video you played. God bless Skynyrd.
No Tattoos, no piercings, no Punks, only nice People.

But it's awesome you witnessed the world's best guitar rock madness ever !!!
