  • It is so nice to get stoned
And take a load off of my weary mind
It is so nice to get stoned
    And never ever come down
It is so nice to lay down
And watch the clouds drifting so lazily
It is so nice to lay down
    And never ever come down

Hi Chris. Wish I could have found something really obscure but I guess Lucas will have to do. The best part was listening to the record again after forgetting about it for a few years. Rediscovering your own music is a good feeling. Cheers! Shawn

I actually got that Ted Lucas record only last year. TBH I didn't know a lot about it beforehand, but it's become a real favourite for me.
I like how you brought up that these people that we admire musically, leave a whole different impression on their families memory to that of the fans. So the fans should think sometimes when the family are reluctant to reissue music it can sometimes be for the reasons you stated about Ted, like no money, mental issues, absent and abusive parents, substance abuse and on & on.

Very interesting. I’m going to be on the lookout for that.

I’m sure you’ll enjoy Ted Lucas. It’s an easy album to love and make your own. The entire vibe is like a lazy Saturday afternoon. Just puffing the day away with a good friend. Maybe a couple bottles of wine once the sun goes down. Thanks for watching. Cheers! Shawn.

Hey Mariusz! Good to see you around. How are you? You enjoyed a bit of time away, I bet. Good to take some time for yourself. And I couldn’t agree more; the last thing anyone needs (or wants) are more videos about the variations on Led Zeppelin II or perhaps another remix of Dark Side of the Moon. God help us. I mean, to each his own but I feel like the entire culture got stuck around 1976. We just stopped moving forward. Where are the videos from the next generation of music fans talking about rap, punk, disco and techno? There are a few. But mostly we get month after month of VC discussion focused on some horrible old demo that was forced down our throats. And keep in mind that the surviving members of this particular band are all 80/90 years old in 2024! It’s just sad from every perspective imaginable. Sorry for the rant. Be well. Cheers! Shawn

We spoke about this album in the past but I absolutely love it, and have been tempted to snag an original but the reissue on Yoga is beautifully done. Good companion to the Skip Spence that Mazzy posted.

It’s interesting that you mention Skip Spencer as a companion album. I always three records in their own separate category; Ted Lucas and Gray Higgins. Although, each has their own unique personality; thes three albums always create a special vibe that makes them compliment each and enhance. I’ll need to go check out Mazzy’s video too. Later. Shawn

Well Shawn, it seems obscure to me. Reissues have really helped. That Acid book is very interesting. It seems like a series made for you.

You would think so but there are only one or two other albums that I have! This is obscure stuff. Seeking a Thread has an amazing collection and he really knows his stuff. Btw - you have some pretty obscure pieces yourself. How many of your family and friends have the same musical tastes as you? Not many, I bet. I think it’s healthy to be looking for the new. The alternative is to always be nostalgic and looking to the past. Most of my friends are still listening to the same music the had in high school. Maybe one or two got into techno and House. But it’s rare. Maybe it’s always been this way? I just think our culture is stuck looking backwards. Anyway… be well, my friend. Cheers!

Sounds like Bon Iver could’ve been influenced by Ted Lucas. Love and Peace Raga and Robin’s Ride are my favorite tunes on that record. Sonny cover ain’t bad either. Great stuff, buddy. Take care.

Hey Steve! Good to hear from you. Hope all is well. I need to get over and see your latest videos. That’s a good comparison you make. Lucas is maybe a bit more…raw in the execution. But you get the idea. Give it a listen on RUclips and I’ll bet you’ll be out hunting a copy down. It’s really groovy and likable. Hope you are well! Cheers, Shawn.

l really dig this album, looks like the same reissue l have... if l remember correctly the cover art is done by the same guy who did the Journey covers from that time, kind of odd....
l don't have the book so l need to find a list of the albums online, which is no easy task for someone who still operates as if it's the 20th century.....

Look under www.scribd.com/doc/138177660/The-Acid-Archives That should get you to a pdf. I don’t believe it’s the full book but you can see who is in listed. I think I’m going to get one myself. It’s like $35-40. Not bad for what you get. I didn’t know that about the Journey art. But it makes sense now that I compare. Lol. Not a Journey fan - although I did see them live in high school. Lol. Thanks for watching. Be well. Shawn

I never heard this one, I'll have to check it out, did I hear an Ann Arbor reference in there? Thanks for the review.

      Hey Deadwax. I u
spent a fair amount of time in Ann Arbor during those crazy years. It’s about 40 minutes from my house in Royal Oak so friends and I would go to the bars or the record stores hunting on a Saturday. Plus I love the history of the city: Stooges, MC5, Rationals…early Bob Seger. That’s the music I grew up on as a teenager. Hey…I had a blast on your last live stream. Great energy. Loved hearing Pop Star by the Torpedoes. I have the track on a compilation album called Detroit on a Plater. I need to find the single with that great b-side you played. Thanks for watch. Cheers! Shawn
