Nate...this is my store! So happy that I came across it! My family started Sparkle in 1955. We still have 18 independently owned stores throughout Ohio, PA and West Virginia. We have personally owned this store for over 35 years. We have often talked of making it bigger, but always liked the "home town" feel of the store. Some people just don't like a big store. I'm not sure "vintage" is the right term...lol! We recently completed a $200k renovation to the store...with more to come! Thanks for stopping by...and sharing our story! Eric

Hi! So cool! The first Sparkle I ever remember seeing was in my favorite little town where I grew up, called Andover Ohio. Do you uys own that one as well? And am I correct in thinking it was a Piggly Wiggly before turning into a Sparkle?

Nate...that store is owned by the Romano family. A really good guy, Mr. Romano. I'm not sure what that store was before he bought it...perhaps an A & P? I remember no one wanted it...he took a chance, and it's been a very good store for him. I was a little shocked because I saw most of your videos are of "dead stores". I was happy that you chose my store to feature. I hope you don't mind me sharing it.

Oh sure please feel free to share it! Wow yeah you are right, it was an A&P, I definitely remember now that you mention it! Do you recall by chance, what year it became Sparkle? I go back there every so often, and definitely plan to film there as well. Wow all the memories from that town, we used to ride our bikes to that store every day, we lived right down Chestnut st, and my dad was the preacher at the church right beside the store.

Memories. I grew up in Niles and that Sparkle Market has been there for I want to say at least 20 years. I think it use to be something else but I cant remember, I could be wrong. Cool to see it again. My Jr. High School used to be right around there (Edison Jr. High) but its been torn down for a few years and something else built in it's place. Thanks for the Video

Love these vintage small grocery stores where you still can get the things you need at a fair price. Manny's video was awesome. You's is heartwarming because you are training the Little to be a future urbexer. She will probably be doing her own videos in a year!
If Sparkle is smart they can offer this store to movie and TV producers who are filming vintage 70s and 80s shows and movies to add extra money to the company and keep the stores going.
As I posted in Manny's video miss these stores with the larger ones more impersonal, more expensive and companies more greedy for people's money (case in point: The Giant Eagle at Stinky View center in Garbage Heights, Ohio!)

It is always nice to see a small grocer still doing well. The big chains here in Houston have wiped out most small grocers like this store. There are some diverse small grocers in this area though that specialize in foods from different parts of the world.

Oh yes, spent many hours in that store with my ma over the years. Still remember the sight and smell of it. And I think Jimmy Greens Pizza was open for maybe a year? Used to be an ice cream only Dairy Queen located there. Right round the corner from a full Dairy Queen. They were like, literally, 500 feet apart.
