I'm just getting into leather working, and I have a new appreciation for the work and skill that goes into designs and templates. Even a simple keychain design gives me trouble, much less something as complex as an axe sheath. Also, on an unrelated note and out of sheer coincidence, my girlfriend gave me that exact same hatchet for my birthday. What a beauty.
Im sometimes asked if I can share my templates, but I never do. For one I rarely use templates when doing custom axe sheaths and secondly I really think people are better of doing there own, making there sheaths unique. The work with the template also teaches you loads figuring out what works and what doesn´t
The end result was absolutely outstanding, real beautiful craftsmanship, and such a pleasure to see the process from beginning to end. Very impressed that you serviced the customer’s axe too, the definition of the ‘extra mile’. Nicely done. Thank you for sharing this, I really enjoyed
Hello from Boston Kyle! I think part of the purpose of these great videos is to inspire people to try things for themselves. You shouldn’t share your templates. They should attempt to make their own. If they don’t want to do that, they should pay you to make a sheath for them. It’s that simple. You work hard and invest your time to make a quality product. Don’t give it away. Hope you had an easy winter.
Fabulous! Gonna get myself one of those airbrush compressors. I'm too old to be blowing through straws. Bloody cheek, asking for a copy of your template. Don't you dare send any. You give enough of your soul in your videos as it is. Thank you so much for sharing your art, craft and way of life with us!
@@kyle_noseworthy Yep! I guess that is the reason I am still here. Scratch that compressor. My grandchildren and great grandchildren haven't seen the last of me yet. I've got things to do 🤣!

I think its your job to show what the template should look like, and for the viewers to try to match that template based on their particular axe. I'm sure a lot of axes require different templates for an exact fit. So having a guide make the template to fit exactly the shape and size of the axe in question. It would have been nice to show creating the template.
Interesting video. Thanks for sharing. From leather crafter to a leather worker, would suggest being less prissy and smarter with marketing... sell your patterns. Look up Don Gonzalez or similar for how they instruct others while showing their craft while capitalizing on their knowledge/skill. Your work has a ways to go but is good quality.
From the comments, sounds like you could sell existing pdf templates for standardized tools. From my sheath making experience, this could be more profitable than building sheaths and inspire folks to get involved. Just a thought, keep up the great work.

Great question, Dale! I don't usually do that. It doesn't contact the elements directly, and if not aired enough, the leather can get punky. It'll receive a suitable amount of oils and greases just from the tools entering.

If you're looking for appreciation for everything you do or sell you will be disappointed often. Everyone should be appreciated for their efforts. That's just not the case. Unfortunately. You are a business man first. Perhaps you should time how long it takes to create any,and all patterns. Then put a price on it. We want to support you by watching your channel, and buying your services. What takes me Lord only knows how long, takes you only minutes w/a knife edge. That's just one of many examples. I envy your skills. Don't worry about whether they plagiarize your pattern or not. That is on their conscience not yours. Gas station, five and dime, 7-11, or a big box store. It doesn't matter .
If you're looking for appreciation for everything you do or sell you will be disappointed often. Everyone should be appreciated for their efforts. That's just not the case. Unfortunately.
You are proud of your work. You put love into what you do. A true craftsman. One day, I believe a great and world renowned craftsman,if you are not already. Don't allow the thoughts,or lack of thoughts of a few deprive the rest of us when seeking to buy your work. Department stores sell dress, shirt, pants patterns. You name it. You're patterns are different, yes. You don't sell in mass quantitie. Find your price. If they really want it they'll pay for it. May God continue to bless you and yours. May you continue to grow in your business with his help and guidance. May you allways be happy in your life, no matter what anyone else thinks.

You okay? Looks like something touched a nerve. Keep your templates. Ignore the requests.
Do not send the template The template is worth more then the piece you create with it is my opinion on it
That's a strong opinion, Michael! I like it man! Templates are VERY valuable. They take a lot of time.
Don't send the template. That is your product.
