I have this pedal, and let me tell you... it's a BEAST. It will test your ability to control it. This one definitely isn't for the feint of heart. I'm not even sure that I would ever stack it with an OD. It simply doesnt need it. It would be like feeding speed to a rabid dog. "Nice doggie" would be your last words. Yeah, this is THAT pedal.
FUZZ PEDALS will react differently to different amps, pedals, guitars, power supplies. You just never know how it will sound when you kick one on. Tweek your equipment till you get 2 or 3 favourite tones from the 1 or 2 fuzz pedals you already have.
@@johniresearchist7263 I have the blue and grey model. The blend knob is a game changer and allows the natural sustain and tone of the amp to augment the signal. Masterpiece appliance. Agreed.
I've been using this pedal for a few months & I couldn't be more pleased. You can accurately emulate the tone of any vintage BM iteration, or dial in unique tones not possible with other fuzzes. By far, my favourite feature on the Deluxe is the "attack" feature. I keep this setting dimed regardless of which other settings I'm using. Please consider including this feature in future iterations! It truly makes a world of difference in preserving note articulation, without affecting the overall tone in any other way. You guys really nailed it with the v10.
this is without a doubt the best sounding and most controllable distortion pedal I've ever heard or seen, it's on my "must have" list! thanks for the great demo!!
It may sound crazy, but there's a clarity to the sound of that pedal. It has depth, width, and punch, not to mention lots of bite. Probably the best overall distortion I think I've heard so far.
I think a lot of that has to do with its "attack" circuit. I keep that setting cranked all the time, regardless of what other settings I'm using. Even with really muddy, bassy, high sustain settings, you retain all of your note articulation. It's like having a dry signal "blend" circuit, but isolated only to your initial attack.
Awesome Bill! You've sold me a few pedals recently :) I love your tone on sorrow and have added this to my collection. Thanks for bringing the interest of guitar back to me after a 25 year hiatus.
Big Muffs rule ! This demo gets increasingly out of control, by the time you get to Sorrow, w the Holy Grail, spontaneous combustion is possible! I've had a rams head since 79, used early deluxe, added compression, in studio in 84, had a graphic fuzz, another Muff, obtained a Metal Muff- love the mid cut, but this adding the gate rules!!!
Is it just me, or is Bill Rupert a huge Pink Floyd Fan? I've watched all his videos demoing EHX pedals, and the majority are just like listening to Floyd. Fantastic!
They’ve done it again!...this pedal is gonna hurt some feelings!!.. it’s that cool!!!...think of it folks,..all that headroom to put control of the distortion in your hands,..ready for ANY situation thrown at it and you! Killer Guitar gigs with this fo’sho’!!!👍🏾🎵🔥💨
Awesome video Bill, thanks. I want this pedal but I also discovered the sovtek version has a blend knob instead of attack. Now I’m trying to figure out what is more useful to me. Any thoughts on blend vs. attack on these 2 pedals? Thanks for the great review
Why not get both? I have both, fir this very reason, plus the Wicker dies something different than what is found on this reviewed model. I am truly enjoying both.
I'm returning my green russian muff for a deluxe big muff. I hope I did the right thing. It's just more versatile. Gate and an exp pedal? Trying to find that Gilmore tone.
Get the Sovtek Deluxe: it does all of this plus it has a BLEND pot so you can blend in your dry/wet mix (amazing). The Sovtek is a Big Muff Pi, A Green Russian and a Civil War all in one enclosure. It does everything this does and more...
Great video Bill, very similar to the the settings that i use, but how you do to use to gate without cuting the guitar signal? when i start to turn the gate it immediatdly kills the signal ...
Marcelo Best way is to adjust to the noise not the guitar. Dial in to just the point the noise stops. Also your guitar is up the loudest. Most of the time its not needed as its not that noisy by it self.
Awesome video dude, nice. You made me want to just go out and buy one LOL I love my electro-harmonix I had the original golden throat of the 70s I'm hoping it's still around here somewhere I had a house fire but I had a lot of stuff stored in campers. I don't think it was in the house. It was about a 1977 maybe 75
The beginning and final PF solos gave me chills. What does this pedal sound like when mixed with the Grand Canyon Delay Looper pedal please and thank you. Any chance you can show an old guy how to play that solo. 👍🏻
Hey Bill - awesome demo. I've got the deluxe muff and the Pitch Fork on my board. Contrary to most pitch shifters, I think the PF sounds better AFTER the muff/overdrive/distortion. What order do you run yours? Any thoughts on where the PF sounds best?
Hi Jason for synth effects I like it after the distortion. For dive bomb type stuff and to sound more like a distorted guitar I like the pitch fork in front of distortion. Both sound great and each approach works in different situations.
EHX pedals are notorius for being super noisy, Bill how are you able to quiet down these pedals which everytime i check one out is so hissy... what is your setup that allows you to get such a clean quiet sound? Who is that Lady Bill? also..like gilmour much? 5:27 Bill do you play live or tour ever, you are one of the best guitarist's ive ever heard but never seen their face and I would totally pay to see a show with a band you front.?
Scott Ehx pedals are not noisy or you would hear it. Dont confuse the new with the old. Bank in the 70's/80's pedals were different and they did have a higher noise floor. The engineers here at EHX at all trained at circuit board layout, gain staging, parts and proper grounding. If you take any pedal and plug into a cranked Marshall any thing will be noisy. Your cord gets noisy at that point because the amp is amplifying molecular noise in the wire! And The Lady? The Lady is a Tramp!
hello? My names is Roberto happy to meet you. I saw your video and noticed a detail that interests me very much at the and of the video at exactly 6 minutes. Can you kindly tell me what you use besides the distorted? And a delay, or a reverb?. Please let me know thanks
Hi Roberto! Its the Big Muff into a Kemper amp set to a clean fender amp sound just on the edge of break up. The reverb is a EHX Holy Grail Neo Reverb in the effects loop of the amp.
Some of the tones and sounds produced in this video are more than epic
Bill Ruppert makes me want to buy every pedal he touches
I have this pedal, and let me tell you... it's a BEAST. It will test your ability to control it.

Wow! I was searching for a video describing different types of muffs. Didn't know there is one combining all of them. It was an instant buy.
I have the Deluxe Big Muff Pie and it is the finest fuzz pedal I have ever used. Outstanding gear.

gilmour sound on a single effects pedal....amazing
I just got this pedal. It’s amazing

That just sounds killer
It's a big call(and my personal opinion) but The Deluxe Big Muff is in the top 3 EHX effects.. It's a master piece !
That last track. .. my God man. Maven you kill me

Daamn!!! That's the Muff I've been waiting for!
Bought it. Worth the money. I'm not using mids, but the attack and gate knobs are just so crucial whenever I use this pedal
Sounds Great

he has good taste, dare I say
Yeah with the Canyon he did play Echoes in the demo
and he also did a "On the Run" with other EHX gear.
I skipped to a random time to see if i could get a whitestripes tone and landed exactly on dead leaves. I am getting this
Got it! Amazing pedal! Wont stop playing till i die
I have an NYC big muff and a metal muff but now I want this one. Dang you EHX! Your pedals are too good.
Bill, EHX is not paying you enough. Another great video
Wow Bill! That sounds beautiful! 😊
First comment! I'd watch Bill demo a celery stick.
Got this for Christmas. This is the end all be all of all of EHX's muffs. Thing sounds so damn good.
Stop taking my money EHX
I own a many of o muff pedals. Blows all of them away. 🤘🏾
I used to own this pedal, loved it, but then I went and sold it. Now, for the life of me, I can't remember why!
I totally need to buy another one.
3:38-3:46 perfectly replied the Ratatat Lex/Loud Pipes sound
6:07 to 6:13 ... Holy mother... Shiiiiiiit
I had an original deluxe big muff in 1980 and it was awesome and this seems even more so !
First pedal I ever bought!
Good pick!!
Me too!!

2:23 so good, Bill.
I love muff
Had an original Big Muff Pi back in the 70s.....thats why I cant hear any more!
Whoa!! Better than classic!
What an intro!!! 👍🎸👍
Mr. Rupert and his awesome reviews 🙄
Im a drummer, im just watching for this cat's skills
My god Bill Ruppert you can play
Make a video of normal guitar players for the love of God! 😂 kidding, beautiful playing bro.
Sounds pretty great as a wah also! The tubes were cooking hot in this video.
I've got the Big Muff pi deluxe in front of the Oceans 11 and must say it's fantastic!!!
Would it matter if it was in front or behind the reverb pedal??
@@stephendorn6348 yes. Two completely different sounds just by swapping the two in the chain.
great review and amazin solo at the end
Bill can make anything sound amazing
Not again. My god, I only have so much room on my floor. Still gotta have it.
Pink Floyd 🖤
Ahhhh yes. The godlike sound you get when you plug a big muff into a Fender tube amp.

The BLEND was a game changer for me. My Sovtek BM Deluxe is my main fuzz now...
Why are people obsessed with using the expression as a wah when I’m sure you could use it to move in the mix seamlessly and without stopping playing.
AH, you got that Isley Brothers sound perfect.
I love your demos, even for pedals I'm not so interested in
Man! Can Bill Play!
Holy cow...i see one in my near future
You are one helluva player..
The first 1:18 sold me. Which settings did you use for that section? I see several and wasn't clear which it was.
3:20 SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY
By the way: done.
Sold...this demo blew me out.I'm sure the gate and other options..like expression tipped the scale
Yeah these guys make some awesome stuff. And they don't charge a kidney for it.
Bill Ruppert is really good!
When I grow up, I want to be Bill Ruppert.
That sounds allmost too good... :) Ordered a russian Big Muff, wating eagerly for it to arrive!
Kick ass as always, Bill.
Minute 1:52! “Blood in Blood Out” movie scene where Cruzito yells “Es mi pachanga! So have a good time!!” Haha! 😂

DOUBLE AWESOME !!
What other pedal is used during the Siamese dream tone? To have that slap back type effect

You guys should do a nano deluxe big muff without the extra footswitch so that the mids would be fixed and it would be smaller.
I completely eargasmed over that intro!😬😱

Gonna have to test these out on mine, though I can't stand the gate, it cuts sustained notes way too fast no matter what setting.
Chris you really only need the gate if you are putting a booster in front and then the gate stays open easier because of the extra gain.
