This was always my favorite part of Journey. My first time playing, my companion and I wove around each other as we slid through the sand. He led me to the glowing symbols, and we chirped and sang to one another as we played. Then we came to the panoramic view of the sun setting behind the ruins, and my jaw dropped.
The flute solo here is wonderful. I love how airy and playful it is, it perfectly complements the sense of freedom you have sandsurfing through this section of the game.
To me, this game is so amazing because of the message it sends: the journey is what's important, not the result. Just look at the people in the game; they went too far and too fast in their lust for power, and they lost everything for it. All this means is: take your bloody time. The result can wait, it's how you get there that matters.
Action packed games are dime a dozen, can hardly find a game without it these days, then you have jewels like this, it that has little action, and yet it has some of the best gameplay I have seen in a game in over a decade. That Game Company, I implore you, NEVER fall victim to coorprate greed, just keep making your games your way, so that we can have another one of your masterpieces in the future.
The first time I heard this song and saw this part of the game was via someone's playthrough, and I thought it was amazing. Years later, I finally got the chance to play the game myself, and so many things came rushing back to me. I had seen it before, but playing myself was beautiful. I had met someone along the way, and we were chirping back and forth, weaving around each other, I won't forget it. They stayed with me the rest of our journey. :) The panoramic view of the sun through the pillars will always be my favourite part, since it reminded me of a story my dad and I were writing when I was a little kid. He's gone now, but I'm going to find the notebook he put our pages in and rewrite it.
I'm very late to comment on this, but oh well. This game is still amazing even after 10 years, still so emotion-evoking. Thank you TGC, and Austin Wintory. Thank you for such an spectacular game.
Thank you youtube lol, seeing that sun for the first time blew my mind. Years later and still can't find a game that made a console sing like Journey did on the ps3
This song gives me goosebumps every time I hear it! And sometimes depending on my mood it's beauty brings a tear to my eye. Austin, you outdid yourself with this one, you are a true genius. Thank you for this timeless gift of a song.
I...I did just that >.> I was debating whether or not to get a PS3 but then ran across a Journey demo at a nearby electronics store and then I knew I had to get a PS3 just for this game. I HIGHLY recommend getting it. It's worth every cent.
I like how you hear an altered version of the main theme at 2:43. It brings the same theme (as in feel), but it also brings something different to go with the key that it is in. It’s an interesting choice! 👍
This game gives me the goose bumps every time a play no matter what. Especially the music..It just connects to my soul for some weird reason and I REALLY like it.
After listening to the OST non stop on RUclips since finishing this game only a few days ago I feel it is almost a duty for me to buy it. It is perfect for the game and easy to listen to. Also everybody has the same memory of sliding down the sand with their "friend" and seeing a bright horizon off in the distance... This part of the game is possibly my favourite, I thought it was very symbolic.
I got this game two nights ago. I've played it four times. IM IN LOVE WITH IT! I've never played something so beautiful. I wish I could play it forever
It's moments like these that I just smile and play silently, wishing that a world like this existed. It's one of the reasons I love video games so much.
I don't have this game, cause I just have a PC, and no console, but I watch this on You Tube and I must say the golden sun is just amazing on the sand. Just beautiful. I can't think of any other game that could beat this. The music is just as beautiful as well. :)
I agree! Usually I either find music that's a little too calm or too upbeat... I like both but for those moods where I need it just right... this is perfect, and so beautiful!!
HitomiAyumu I admit, I do look at my alerts every once in a while to make sure I haven't missed a message or two! It's really the flute. If you check out Austin Wintory's official commentary on his channel, it's the flute playing E#. It took a while for him to realize that it sounded exactly like a Mail alert. It was edited out of the final version.
Thank you so much for creating this wonderful soundtrack, there's really nothing else like it. Congrats on your Grammy nomination too! Mr Wintory, we salute you!
The natural rhythmic freedom between 2/8 and 3/8 Austin accomplished makes me so jealous 😖 Most composers can only dream of nailing something like this without it sounding completely overbearing
The 20 that gave this a thumbs down... T^T Just... why? I inch closer to utilising the toxic ways of the keyboard warrior in protest. But then what if the sheer dislike stems from the burning horror that this is not, in fact, an hour(or more)-long loop of this beautiful craft of sound? Alas, I shall be forever burdened by the trespass of these nay-thumbers.
Journey is not one of those games you play once and then shelve it for ever. I wish more games had the same kind of replayability that this game demonstrates.
@Gimlao I heard no iPhone noise. Are you sure it wasn't probably an instrument you were hearing? There is a marimba-like instrument playing at that moment under all of the woodwind and other instruments. Not only that, why would someone record via an iPhone? Wouldn't the sound quality not be that great?
That one dislike just wanted to be a rebel is all. But I'm pretty sure it's looking over at that thumbs up like, "Damn...I really wish I was over there. They look like they're having such a swell time."
The part where you slide through the tunnel and you see the sun rise behind the mountain made me cry. Its such an amazing game
How?
@@shroomy__rxcks Ah it was gorgeous as fuck mate
The sun was setting, actually. The next few chapters take place at night.
Hehe, it’s funny because when I first made it there, I was so confused cause I couldn’t find myself
@@shroomy__rxcks human beings need only apply.
Best part in the entire game. Absolutely takes your mind elsewhere.
+buggld especially the sunset part
Breathtaking...

Yeah!

All i'm asking for in life is a vr first person perspective of this scene.
BRO this would be so powerful omg
I don't think so. Without the beautiful moving red/white dot catch your eyes, the simplified background is kinda bland; it's all about balance.
The flute solo here is wonderful. I love how airy and playful it is, it perfectly complements the sense of freedom you have sandsurfing through this section of the game.
this game is a masterpiece! a spiritual experience like no other
Yesyesyesyes
Cello/Flute duet basically.
To me, this game is so amazing because of the message it sends: the journey is what's important, not the result. This is and Apotheosis are my two favourite tracks. This one is so cheerful and energetic. Perfect for essay writing.
I know! I use this for study music all the time!
I always come back once in awhile to listen to these songs, love them every time
The Road of Trials... man this is PERFECT for Algebra.
Totally!
This sand-surfing sequence was the best moment of gaming and I don't care who says otherwise.
0:44 ... The countless attempts to land a perfect landing on the ledge to the side
Or the ledge in front in the air before you fell into the new world

If I could, I would spend a good 10 hours just replaying this part and just this part, over and over again.
The first time I heard this song and saw this part of the game was via someone's playthrough, and I thought it was amazing. Years later, I finally got the chance to play the game myself, and so many things came rushing back to me.

This part of the game makes me tear up so much.. pure bliss.. it's amazing even on PS3 you see the sunset shining off the sand
Why every time I hear this song I feel sadness and just I close my eyes?
I guess my journey is not over yet.
I'm very late to comment on this, but oh well.

The best song in the entire album!
Can't wait to play Journey again on PS4 ^^
I Was Born For This: Am I a joke to you?
This level was beautiful.
Absolutely beautiful.
Honestly, one of THE most beautiful moments in all of videogaming. Nothing compares to seeing that sunset for the first time in your life
This sounds like something out of a nature documentary.
Yes at one single moment the world is lost, and only one Journey matters
I like how you hear an altered version of the main theme at 2:43. It brings the same theme (as in feel), but it also brings something different to go with the key that it is in. It’s an interesting choice! 👍
Still do and always will. Every time i play i am paired with a new person.
Am I the only one that hears that really dramatic noise that's always used in shows like Hell's Kitchen at 2:15?
Absolutely love this song. The Sunken City section of the game is my favorite
best part of the game. all the sand surfers already know that right?
Harry ETHEART mhmm
Yes. Absolutely
It's only people like you who can understand why i love video games so much.
The colors.....
Fantastico....., una soundtrack mitica per un videogioco ..stupendo...
This game gives me the goose bumps every time a play no matter what. Especially the music..It just connects to my soul for some weird reason and I REALLY like it.

The soundtrack is beautiful, this song is... There aren't any words.... It just makes me so happy I could cry. It's just so beautiful. D''';
This is my favorite track as it is pretty energetic and also pretty fun, and the level, i love it
I got this game two nights ago. I've played it four times. IM IN LOVE WITH IT! I've never played something so beautiful. I wish I could play it forever
i've played cello for 6 years and still can't play this shit. amazing job.

This music feels like its brimming with life

EVERY TIME
I hate you, now I cant unhear it
@@feeler6670 ikr?
It's the flute 🤭 playing E#
They are my favourites too, Apotheosis is so strong and dramatic but also kind of quiet and gentle
I play it every now and then...keeps the magic alive.
This is the most beautiful game with the most beautiful sound track ever.
Ah, I listen this again and again, and again, and again and I can't stop!!!
I think the combination of flute and different string instruments go perfectly well together.
If this group didn't win an award for that sunset scene, heads will roll.
Best part of the game. :) This part is why this game will never get old.
this is the most beautiful stage ever.
I find that this soundtrack makes GREAT study music. its soothing yet not too boring and keeps me focused. :D
I agree! Usually I either find music that's a little too calm or too upbeat... I like both but for those moods where I need it just right... this is perfect, and so beautiful!!
This is where I lost Riminy... You were an amazing companion!
By the way, did anyone else hear an iPhone text not. sound at 0:27?
it's a flute
Hahaha that's hysterical. You young people.
HitomiAyumu

I didn't even hear the mail alert until this guy pointed it out.
HitomiAyumu Noooo! Now I'm gonna hear it every time I listen to this song, haha
This is my favourite part of the soundtrack, as well as : I was born for this
Thank you so much for creating this wonderful soundtrack, there's really nothing else like it. Congrats on your Grammy nomination too!
Mr Wintory, we salute you!
People are still playing it. I've been playing it 4 times since yesterday and i have met plenty of travelers
I agree, probably my 20th time playing it after just buying it a few weeks ago.
Hope because of this track these guys win the Grammy.
It's actually THE BEST level in journey...music and graphics 😭💗💗
The natural rhythmic freedom between 2/8 and 3/8 Austin accomplished makes me so jealous 😖 Most composers can only dream of nailing something like this without it sounding completely overbearing

OH my GOD I love your art!
oh i loved this part! it was beyond beautiful =w=
i love this, it's a happy sound !
At 0:44 does anyone else hear what sounds like the kitchen nightmares sound effect? 🤣 It happens again at 2:15
i hear it lmfao
Not often meme-related humor makes me genuinely laugh, but this one got a good lol from me. Well done, sir/madame/relevant species
Best scene in the game !
THIS IS MY JAM MAN!
amazing
I saw one clip of this chapter, and it convinced me to buy a PS3 and the game. Journey will also be the first game I get on PS4.
***** I am neither, but thank you.
***** That makes him a guy interested in the game. What the hell?
***** Funny how you commented the day I finally got a PS4.
Loved that part so much. And still do. :)
I kind of think the phone noise everyone is talking about is just the flute
God bless you.
my favorite level in the game...so pretty
I MUST BUY THIS GAME.
Plenty are. The magic is very much alive and well.
If you seek to join us on the Journey, go and get it.
sometimes I replay this stage just to hear the music
Favorite song
This is perfect for a D&D setting
God, that's the one that really got me. TTuTT
My favorite part
Magnificent
i love this part of the game
My favorite part of the soundtrack
Journey is made so that if there's even one more traveller on a journey, you're certain to cross paths with another wayfarer.

When I got to the sand surfing part for the first time. This was the thought that came to my mind: Tony hawk Pro skater.
Is this from the sand surfing part with all the shining sand? In the abandoned city?
I'm the 4000 likes great
I Use to play but I'm thinking of starting agian.
I heard it. It's not a new mail ding, really. It's just the flute in the background making a very short note.
OOOOOH DEY SO BLINDING
