Man the obstacles were different then, they were steep as shit and had nasty kickers! What they did on those old bikes with those conditions is impressive.

Damon Bradshaw was hands down my favorite rider. When Stanton stepped down I thought for sure he was going to take the whole cake. When he won in Atlanta against McGrath I was 13 years old in the stands screaming my brains out. I even put a #8 on my YZ80. Damon was the man.

I saw Damon at the '88 Toronto Supercross. He was only 15 and not even old enough to get a pro licence in the U.S. But he was already at the factory level at that age. The Canadian track was nowhere as difficult as a U.S. track as they also had monster trucks and off road buggies on the same track. He won the main. Made me buy my first mx bike an get involved in racing.

As someone who grew up watching Damon Bradshaw kick ass in monster trucks, it's amazing to see where he came from initially and how much of his skills in motocross transferred over to Monster Jam.

Damn, that's when truly got into the sport as a kid. Still my favorite rider ever and I still wish he would do commentary at some point for the races but he might be too honest and it would be short lived lol.

I remember watching Damon choke at the 1992 supercross finale and his resulting disinterest of the sport. While it was a shame to see that happen, I think it was this that made him realize that motocross wasn't something that he wanted to pursue in the first place.

Methamphetamines do that to sime people he was tweekin hard and partying too much. Lechien could handle it but Damon didn't have that natural talent to carry him like Ronnie did

Whaaaaat ?!?!?!?? Ironic because I retired in 92 to pursue a career in selling Es and speed at the Raves I started going to, I was 17 and I had reachedACU inter 100 national championship (Top35inGB.inter100)in the GB in 1989 & 1990 and realized the I had a long ways to go even though I had won a club championship,

@EmperorNerox Where'd you get that information from? I remember when Ronnie took his girlfriend to her high school prom in California the night before the 1987 Southwick national and had to catch a red-eye flight clear across the country to make the race. He got there just in time and then proceeded to absolutely demolish the competition in the first moto. I remember because I was there to see the most impressive race I've ever seen. He made the best in the world look like amateur class riders. I've watched the same race on video, and unfortunately, it doesn't translate. If you were there, you would know what I'm talking about. He did everything a rider is supposed to do in the corners - drive in as hard and far as you can, brake, set up for the turn, and then get on the throttle and power out. Ronnie did everything except brake. He rode up to the corner and then proceeded to keep the throttle pinned, leaned it over, and then powered out without so much as touching the brakes. It was incredible. He did this in almost every corner lap after lap. He looked like he was from another goddamned planet he was so fast. RJ looked like a putweezer compared to Lechien. Unfortunately, by the time the second moto came up, Ronnie already shot his wad in the first moto and crawled in at 9th place. To this day, it was far and away the most impressive thing I've ever seen in a race.
