I first heard these guys in 1978 at Cleveland State University. They were doing a cover of Alice Cooper's "I'm Eighteen". My jaw dropped at the brutal heaviness! Heard them many times since locally, in Northern Ohio. The singer is also their lead guitar player. I once watched him change a guitar string in the middle of a song without missing a note!
This band hails from the same legendary Ohio metal scene that gave the world Shok Paris and Damien. Growing up in West Virginia, I always heard about how great this band from across the river was, but it wasn't until the advent of the internet that I actually heard them. Great old-school metal that would have easily held up against early Maiden or Grim Reaper. Apart from sub-par recording/production--recorded for a very low budget by a small Cleveland metal label--this is excellent stuff!
I was their first fan they were formed on the East side of Cleveland on 126 steet and Kinsman. I remember listening to them from Phil's basement window
Mharq Lankford LMFAOLOL... YEEEEEEEAAAH... I THINK THAT I REMEMBER YOU MATE... WE STARTED AT PHIL'S IN 1977... AT LEAST THAT'S WHEN I STARTED PLAYING MUSIC WITH PHIL AND THE REST... IN 1978... AFTER I RETURNED FROM ALABAMA... I CALLED THE BAND BLACK DEATH... I AM... THE IRON MESSIAH... I AM... SIKI SPACEK... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH HA HA HA HA HA HA HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA...
The Scream of the Iron Messiah Lyrics Into the night I will make myself known Bringing my vengeance on their dark souls I can still hear them, poisoned dark satan I said give him their souls, they are the fools They are the damned and they shall pay with their lives I am the angel from heaven, I will make you scream I am the angel from heaven, I will make you scream They're lost in the night, looking for light Searching for love you abandon your hope I have been summoned from hеavens above To bring you this messagе, this message of love This is the law, you broke it and now you must pay I am the angel from heaven, I will make you bleed I am the angel from heaven, I will make you scream I'm gonna get you... and make you scream!
for more all-black metal madness, check out Liberty City, Miami's very own all black "Black Metal" band NEGROPHILIA. Their debut titled 'Don't Make Me get Unholy on that Ass' is a classic
First listen everything. I remember seeing a pic of these guys a few months ago, but didn't know who they were. Great music and lyrics! Now I wish our band would get the rest of our material recorded. =D
I've seen that album cover plenty of times but this is the first time hearing it. It's better than I expected, actually pretty good by U.S. Heavy Metal standards.
@DNOMYTE I think that, rather than giving the band "too much credit" for being black, most people recognize that, by and large, metal sounded like this in the early 80s. Black Death were inspired by Venom, Maiden and Motorhead, so one shouldn't expect them to sound like Meshuggah. In 1983, almost nobody in metal was comping time signatures, soloing in obscure modes, etc.. Don't get me wrong, Cephalic Carnage are top-notch musicians, but I'd still rather listen to Black Death most days!
@DNOMYTE back in 1984, all that shredherpderp numetal whatever bullshit didnt exist. Instead, this is what existed. Raw, balls to the wall metal that made you want to get up and bang your head. Pounding beats, epic progressions, piercing leads, glass shattering vocals. FIGHT THE POWER
Dam how does that not sound like Kiss. I hear so many bands here before they were even huge here. Man how did i ever miss theae guys in time? Wow, i am so ashamed!
@DaaanceYouLoser Okay, but just to let you know, the earlier thrash metal bands took tons of stuff from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, so they aren't completely innocent either. Show No Mercy, for example, sounds very much Maiden and Venom, that's because Slayer was hugely influenced by them. Anthrax is another fine example, their debut album has tons of spots where you can tell they are influenced by Maiden, like in "Across the River." Metallica debut very much sounded like Diamond Head.
@DaaanceYouLoser This record was released in 1984 and most of the songs were already recorded on earlier demos. You can argue all you want, but I'm right.
@DaaanceYouLoser i got to admit, at the first quotes you stated, i thought you were a troll... i was wrong... it was your own opinion, and i respect that... im just sayin that i like them for their sound, i think they sound great, the quality could be better, but awell... what i truly respect is your choice in metal that you stated \m/... btw, we cant forget Cliff Burtons influence of CCR and ZZ Top.
@DNOMYTE rather than judging Black death by their level of musical complexity or simplicity as you put it , perhaps you should look at what Black death is as from more of a perspective of musical "energy and power" rather than how musically complex they are. Sure, most metal bands now days have greatly focused on musical complexity, but most contemporary bands do not possess any REAL creativity applying to their musical composition, playing overly elaborate solos just for the sake of complexity..
It is more akin to black metal like that of Mercyful Fate, then yes it is BLACK METAL. It doesn't matter how you look at it, Norwegian or even Japanese, black metal is black metal. The US suffers a very distant last place as a metal country that plays anything metal.... What's worse is that we are beaten by BOTSWANA FACKEN AFRICA!
this is classic heavy/speed metal in a pretty primitive form.this is not black metal apart from the lyrics. But a lot of bands had occult/satan/horror thematology, its a heavy metal thing.the music is not black metal in the way we use it today.nor mercyful fate, nor venom etc.
Hardly. Their demos were released in 1982 and 1983, just short years earlier. And even if this was entirely original, that's not any better... because it sucks terribly.
i heard this album was supposed to be amazing, i think people are giving these dudes a little too much credit because they are an all black metal band, and that is rare. These dudes just plain and simple based on sound alone were not very good sorry.
No I'm not going to enjoy it because it sucks horribly. The most generic shit I've ever heard, just pulling things right out of Anthrax, Metallica and Slayer from the time. Why would I enjoy this when I could just be listening to the real masters and innovators, without the ass-awful singing and leads?
I first heard these guys in 1978 at Cleveland State University. They were doing a cover of Alice Cooper's "I'm Eighteen". My jaw dropped at the brutal heaviness! Heard them many times since locally, in Northern Ohio. The singer is also their lead guitar player. I once watched him change a guitar string in the middle of a song without missing a note!
Sounds like Maiden with rougher vocals. Love it!
This band hails from the same legendary Ohio metal scene that gave the world Shok Paris and Damien. Growing up in West Virginia, I always heard about how great this band from across the river was, but it wasn't until the advent of the internet that I actually heard them. Apart from sub-par recording/production--recorded for a very low budget by a small Cleveland metal label--this is excellent stuff!
Raw, gritty Motorhead/Venom style with ear-splitting King Diamond-esque wails = fucking epicness! Metal the way it should be.
first wave of black metal :D
I was their first fan they were formed on the East side of Cleveland on 126 steet and Kinsman. I remember listening to them from Phil's basement window

Mind. Blown. Never knew these guys existed.
Cleveland comes up with the most random bands, i love it
He sounds like a cross between Cronos, King Diamond, and Gene Simmons. Which is pretty fucking awesome in my book. :-)
There's a documentary I just watched on these guys. Fantastic!
The vocals are otherworldly!
Love This Song!!!!!!
Black Death RULES!!!!!!!!~
I like it because it's raw and over the top like what metal should be.
One of the greatest bands of all time.
The true black metal!!!
God damn these guys are good
Why have I only just found out about these guys? They're really good!
The Scream of the Iron Messiah Lyrics
Into the night I will make myself known
Bringing my vengeance on their dark souls
I can still hear them, poisoned dark satan
I said give him their souls, they are the fools
They are the damned and they shall pay with their lives
I am the angel from heaven, I will make you scream
I am the angel from heaven, I will make you scream
They're lost in the night, looking for light
Searching for love you abandon your hope
I have been summoned from hеavens above
To bring you this messagе, this message of love
This is the law, you broke it and now you must pay
I am the angel from heaven, I will make you bleed
I am the angel from heaven, I will make you scream
I'm gonna get you... and make you scream!
increible heavy metal

First listen everything. I remember seeing a pic of these guys a few months ago, but didn't know who they were. Great music and lyrics! Now I wish our band would get the rest of our material recorded. =D
I just realized that this is a power ballad. i didnt even notice because it kicks so much ass
Great album, sounds like Jimi Hendrix on steroids joined Deep Purple, really enjoy this kind of stuff
I've seen that album cover plenty of times but this is the first time hearing it. It's better than I expected, actually pretty good by U.S. Heavy Metal standards.
Some kick ass old-school metal, reminds me of Megadeath's awesomeness.
this is fucking hilarious and awesome at the same time they are so metal as fuck and over the top looking
That riff at 0:32 is legitimately awesome.
I just now found out about these guys, holy shit this is the most bad ass shit i've heard in a while
This here is True Pundibg Metal!!!
this actualy is badass
HelllllllllllllllYeaaaaaaahhhhhhh Getcha Pull 🥃-CHEERS 🍻🤘🏿😎👹🤘🏿
Classic....
No shit. I always knew of this band, but never heard them. Sounds like Di'Anno-era Iron Maiden. Pretty good shit.
@DNOMYTE I think that, rather than giving the band "too much credit" for being black, most people recognize that, by and large, metal sounded like this in the early 80s. daggy174 THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND WORDS MATE...
THE IRON MESSIAH APPROVES...
UNTIL WE ROCK...
@Nandwar213 Yep, one of the few things I am proud of from my home state.
Sort of sounds like Crionics by Slayer. Though that's not a bad thing
Aw fuck! So awesome!
The ending solo is a high tension wire
"Black" Metal!
The singer kinda sounds like Gene Simmons sometimes.
jamal simmons
I'd say a coked up Jimi Hendrix
Adam Wagner LMFAOOO
I heard another tune where he sounds like Paul Stanley. Weird.
@DaaanceYouLoser This record was released in 1984 and most of the songs were already recorded on earlier demos. You can argue all you want, but I'm right.
* Pounding...
I thought this would be some terribly gimmicky band.
Holy fuck was I wrong, this is great.
NWOBHM influenced :)
PRAISING DARK SATAN! This pretty much rules.
So it is only okay to declare that you like something but not that you dislike it?
#Black Bands Matter ImI
argggggggg !!!!!!
Reminds of Tank mixed with Earth Wind & Fire
Where did you get this album? A friend and I have been looking for quite a while.
@ChemiKillWarfare93 Very true. Let's not forget Judas Priest.
Black Metal: The real deal. Hehehe.
@ChemiKillWarfare93 Not at all. I tend to get my points across in the most offensive way possible, so I can't really blame you.
@daggy174 These guys are from ohio?
Please someone tell me how this is, at all, black metal? If anything it sounds like a strange variation of thrash/power.
Obsidius The Sardonic They mean because of their ethnicity, not actual black metal. -_-
It is more akin to black metal like that of Mercyful Fate, then yes it is BLACK METAL. It doesn't matter how you look at it, Norwegian or even Japanese, black metal is black metal. The US suffers a very distant last place as a metal country that plays anything metal.... What's worse is that we are beaten by BOTSWANA FACKEN AFRICA!

@ChemiKillWarfare93 lol yeah right. This record was released in the mid-80s. When the band formed really has no relevance whatsoever.
Hardly. Their demos were released in 1982 and 1983, just short years earlier. And even if this was entirely original, that's not any better... because it sucks terribly.
Well what do ya know, that guy sounds exactly like Gene Simmons, I kid you not.
Jack Black is their son! :D
The only band I like of those three is Anthrax, and how am I ignorant? What am I ignoring?
Pity these guys did not make it higher, they had potential.
Technically good, but the lead singer does not stand out enough.
For the time period anyways
"Looking for lice, searching for love"?
i think he says “looking for the lights, searching for love”
@@jjammmees :D
Would be better with better sound quality :/
@DaaanceYouLoser Yeah, well, I'm sorry about the profanity and name calling in the first comment man. Lol, I need to learn to not get so worked up.
i heard this album was supposed to be amazing, i think people are giving these dudes a little too much credit because they are an all black metal band, and that is rare. These dudes just plain and simple based on sound alone were not very good sorry.

THIS IS CLEARLY NOT A BLACK METAL BAND. AHHAH!
Horrible production :/
+Barbwire Cockring You are horrible.
So fucking what? Go listen to Top 40 if you want that
