Actually, despite it being not being seen as /standard/ in modern usage, using more than one prefix before a character in the Roman numeral system can be seen in throughout history. It's known as a double subtractive. We've pretty much settled on the standard of only one subtractive digit because it's seen as the most legible.

Michael is correct, XIIV is 13. Might not be the conventional way to write it, but it's not wrong.
+Ze Rubenator Well its not "wrong", but it's not how you type "13" (nor "3" for that matter) with roman numerals. 3/13 = III/XIII and not IIV/XIIV. Likewise you type 9/19 as IX and XIX and not VIIII/XVIIII.

Actually, it is wrong as you are only allowed to subtract 1 time from each letter. Also the number you subtract has to be atleast 10% of the original number. (99 is not IC but XCIX)

MrPoolofsouls XI is 11 and XIV is 14 so theoretically XIIV could be 13 since the I's before V would be subtracted from V and since every I is 1 and 2 I's are 2 followed by V equaling 5 then it would theoretically lead to 2-5=3.
so it could still theoretically equal 13. im not saying this is correct but it still could in theory.
The rule with Roman numerals is that the maximum uses in a row of an I is 3, to indicate the number 3. IV would be 4, the only real way to make 3 is III
