  • Having a little trouble with both the upper and lower cowl install. Here are a couple of things I’ve come up with to help make it fit. Lesson learned for me on buying parts already put together. I will be buying separately from now on, there’s just to much adjustment that has to be done. Hope this video helps. Thanks for watching.👍

I had a complete cowl that was so out of square, I returned it for an AMD piece that worked great. Thanks Taiwan 😂!

You are so right. I should have returned it , but I had it for about a year before I was ready to use it. Oh well, just more practice with sheet metal. Thank for the comment and for watching. 👍

Great video and great idea using original panels. There is nothing like the originals for these cars. But I also give thanks for having the aftermarket stuff around to save these beautiful birds. Thank you for the video

Thank you. You are totally correct, as much as I complain about the aftermarket stuff, I’m glad they are available. I’m having a good time working with them and learning what needs to be done, so it’s a win either way for me. Thanks for the comment.👍

    I was surprised to see
The EDP coating between the panels. I have removed pieces of new assembled panels and it’s bare steel and rusting already. I am all about taking measurements and confirming locations. Nice job. I have yet to tackle and an entire cowl panel yet but this is great insight for when I do.

Thank you. When I removed the bracket from the original cowl it was bare metal under there too. Your absolutely right when you say hitting the rust and bare metal with rust stop primer is way more than what the factory did. Hopefully when we complete this it will help to others one way or another.

That’s a great job with location. Using the old brackets very smart idea. I’d prob trim the top and bend it over like the original just in case.

Thank you. I think your right, just make it like the original and I can’t go wrong. Thanks for your input and for watching.👍

Us small sell tapping screws, DONT FINSH WELD ANYTHING. You will need to bend the flange over and trim it to fit accordingly.

Yes. I will get everything in place (including the dash and dash pan) with screws before welding. The flange does stick up a bit, so I think your right on having to trim it. Thanks for the comment and for watching. 👍

Sucks having to cut into a new panel. Ive got a new lower cowl and a firewall to install on my 68 Camaro from AMD so thanks for the tips 👍

That upper lip is not an issue. you could lay it over if you really want to but it gives you a bit more stability on the mate up to the dash panel. as far as moving those nut plates around you hit on the root of the problem and that is that the hole is a bit small. Most of the time all you need to do is take a Burr bit and open the hole up a bit above the nut. I use the same spot weld cutters. I really like that type and when the dull up and don't cut as well you can use them to scrape the paint off the back panel through a plug weld hole if you need to. nice work.

Thank you. Great comments. I will leave the lip on until everything is mocked up and see how it is . Good call on the spot weld cutter when it gets dull , I didn’t think of that. Thanks for your input. Really appreciate it. 👍

Thank you. I think I’m going to leave the flange on as you say, to see how everything turns out. Didn’t think of the seal sealer there, great call. Thanks for the comment and for watching. 👍

I would wait until you fit the dash. This way you can see it all together and then make the needed adjustments.

Good idea. I could trim it anytime, so I might as well wait to see how it all fits. Thanks for the comment and for watching. 👍
