    Many thanks and many blessings to one and all at History Hit for producing and providing this podcast on RUclips!
    Is it just me, or have the Russian people seen more than their fair share of sorrow and suffering‽..
    As outrageous as this may seem, would it be asking for too much for History Hit to produce a program about Boris Leonidovich Pasternak, the publication of his novel Doctor Zhivago, the movie and television programs inspired by the novel, and its contemporary literary significance??...

    Great documentary! I’ve always been drawn to Russian history, both Romanov and Soviet, and continue to find it very interesting. Someone in our family was researching our family tree and turns out an ancestor of mine (I’m assuming some kind of cousin) tutored Nicholas II’s children. Very random, as he was a Yorkshireman. He escaped the revolution and later became a Russian Orthodox monk, I believe. I also discovered I have Jewish ancestry from eastern Europe and Russia. Funny to think one ancestor was helping to educate a dynasty/regime that persecuted my other ancestors!

    When you read books on the Romanovs, always be sure the author is using primary source documents, and be proficient in Russian language….also so so much more is available to historians at GARF (the Russian archives) since the fall of the Soviet Union. The Bolsheviks kept every letter written between the Tsar and his family. Diaries that were not burned by the Romanovs in captivity, amazing photo albums each member kept. Each member of the family owned Kodak brownie cameras and were taught to develop them. This gives a glimpse of private life not ordinarily seen and is part of the reason why many have developed strong feelings for this family.

    Russia has ever been a decent place to live. I don't know why Russia couldn't take a cue from other European counties and formed parliaments to work with the monarchy at a reduced role. Things certainly did not change in a good way at all under communism. They just traded one unsatisfactory situation for an even worse one. The Soviet union fell in the 80's but it wasn't very long before they had Putin in charge running things as if he is a monarch.

      @AlexanderTch 12 дней назад +2

      He is not monarch. He was elected. I voted for him and my entire family and all friends. He was elected according to constitution. Probably your country has monarch. To establish paliament revolution is necessary. It was revolution in England in 18 century when King of England Charles the First was beheaded. There was revolution in France in 1789 when king of France Loui XVI was beheaded. There were bunch in revoluion in Europe in 1848 etc. Russia also had attempt to make borgous revolution in december of 1825 but it failed and active leaders were hung. Problem was climate and it caused delay in development of capitalism in Russia and establish thick layer of borgous class. Not all European countries got parliament either. Russia had difficulties in medieveal times and 18-19 centuries because of climate, agriculture that produce excessive product to feed elite. Agriculture was main thing in medieval times. And Russia is not on Island like Great Britain. There were attempts to establish parliament in RUssia in 19 century. The most famous one was coup organized by groups of army officers, veterans of Napoleonic wars in December of 1825. But coup was defeated and all active members were put to trial, some were executed.
      USSR had paliament called Superime soviet where all members were also elected according to constitution.

The Bolsheviks further proved this when Lenin allowed the Constituent Assembly to happen but three a fit when they lost the vote and put the kibosh on it.

    Hopefully the producers read this. The writing excerpts on this are really annoying. They are white on a light to white background, the red is blurry, the font is too small when viewing on a tv that is less than 10 feet away, and they are on the screen for too short of a time. Please consider people like me who have poor vision for your future videos. BTW, I also object on philosophical grounds -- I watch videos so I don't have to read.

    I vehemently disagree with the lady at 59:35. NO ONE can say with certainty that prayer only produces a "placebo effect" of healing. The opinions in this documentary are only secular viewpoints. I'm a senior citizen now, and there have been so many times in my life where I have witnessed the power of prayer, and many times the subject of the prayer had no idea what was being done to spiritually help them but they recovered when science said that recovery was improbable if not impossible. But of course, you have to believe to receive. It is a matter of faith vs secularism.

    So many people are so quick to judge and condemn the Tsar. If you only had one day to rule as a Tsar you would understand how impossible it is to do so. Just like any world leader. Nicholas II and his Russian government was the last Christian government ruling any country on Earth until the return of Jesus Christ and the Saints which will happen at an unknown and future date. Get that through your thick skulls. Anyone who insults and questions what I have said is already at fault. Don't even think of negativity when reading this. Be gone if you disagree. You're not of the Christian flesh if you disagree. Nicholas II and his family along with their servants died a Martyr's death. Have respect.
