I ran a cat 330 LL in the 90's. it had heavy guards on it and all the pumps were cranked wide open. Awesome machine to run. After you run these heavy duty built excavators we use for road building, anything else is just a hydraulic spade. The extra weight od the machine helps to hang on the hillsides better and you can dig alot harder without pulling yourself to the hole. Especially important when pulling stumps. It doesn't slow the machine down at all.
Heard they were on a normal high and wide 330 chassis and fuel guzzling for the weight, sure does sound beastly though, can't wait to see how these pan out in BC.
Your right. Dealer support and parts availability is known to be good with Cat (Finning) here in B.C..You'll pay more for Cat parts but at least they will exist beyond 10 years down the line like with some of the other brands.I have an 09 ecr58.Volvo mini brought up from Oregon with 1400 hrs on it that I certainly don't plan to keep forever...but am otherwise happy with and havent had to put money into just maint.costs and a set of tracks. Now the heaters blowing cold air- I must look into that.
@KartAnimal29 A 'roadbuilder' usually has double bar grousers for better traction, high and hide lower carrier, heavy duty under guarding plate under the house and carrier below the rotary manifold, cab guarding ,or in this case a purpose built forest cab guarding, hydraulic thumbs, full rock guards on all bottom rollers, idler stiffeners welded to the track frame, often a larger fuel tank, sometimes, fire suppression equipped, travel motor guard plates, heavy duty bucket, additional cylender guards.
Nice, but I'd hate to be the one paying the fuel bills every month, they use way more fuel than anyone else, and they still do the same amount of work.
@copperheadmarine I think you make a good point there about the dealer network...plus cat machines seem to have a better resale value down the line vs. lets say Hyundai or Daewoo lol
JonesDieselPerforman I agree with you but man Hyundai have come a long way. I’m not saying they’re up there with the cat and Volvo hitachi but man they’re improving fast. Resale won’t though ha
Nice hoe, I'm pretty sure that one was set up at Peterson Cat in Portland OR, I've been seeing alot of finning machines go through their shop. They come in without cabs, Peterson install the big Canook cabs and sends em your way. I run the same hoe at work but its the model before the 568 (330D FM) lots of power, really fast, and good counterwieght, feels like its bolted to the earth.
@JonesDieselPerforman how can a machine hold its value if ther "may" not be parts available? And when I ask about dealer network to "other" brand owners..they like to say I'm not going to keep it that long and I'm going to get a new one? So......You may pay 5%,10% or even as much as 20% less for your machine and claim you are not worried about parts becaus you wont keep it that long...Your going to loose your inital savings on depreciation? Becaus who wants to it with no support?
UnitCrane514 it’s not just guards. Usually these days you’ll have a high and wide car body with standard carrier rollers ditched in favour of inverted bottom rollers, the guarding is usually a whole new package panels cabs n all not just some tiny catwalks and screens. Hope that helps

Nice very nice!
@skadill Sounds like maybe a slower but stronger swing?
@skadill basically its more badass than a normal excavaor lol
Why does it have such a narrow bucket
that a nice machine wen do u think they will be avalbile in nz good size for our wood
What makes an Excavator a Road Builder?

@69rd96 I would pay more for fuel to get the dealer network..Very dis satisfied with Deere:( Only required to offer parts for ten years...
So do you own your own company? Or did you win the lotto? or perhaps you are old enough to be retired?

Looks like a 336 e to me
It's ok not to know, but I made it clear as to what it is.
@clovakid I'm back on my special covert equipment search and reveal missions currently

Cutting Edge Machines.
@skadill 10 -4 :)
Why cant they just slap some gaurds on a normal excavator? What makes it a road builder?
