Brilliant video of an incredible training workout! Love how open you are with how much it hurts, even when you make it look easy...and great information on specificity and how if you can lose gains in specific areas when you don't train in that area! Wish you every success training, and racing, at Comrades - see you soon!
Of all the training vids loved this one the most. Running uphill, hard, in the rain, when you're not feeling 100% yet, two weeks post marathon. And just getting on with the session. You earned one of those hoppy cold avery's after this. Sure you smiled as you said 'let's see how much this one hurts'. I'll be up at 5am in the morning for my long run now, no excuses, thanks Sage
Sage, I have a newfound respect for you. Running for so long at that pace with that steep an incline. My god, I would have died a mile in at a much slower pace.
What an awesome hill for training. I am out of Comrades (1st sick, then injured- too much to do now in too little time) so will be out on the route supporting. Let me know if I can give you anything when you pass. Planning to be at a spot just before halfway- known as Arthur's seat.
This was really great. It was great to watch you do this training workout! And great information along with it! I will miss watching more as you switch gears with your upcoming videos! I don't feel all alone in my workout suffering when I get to see others doing the same things!
nice. love the song, too. it's crazy how much you can train. just running 5 days a week with fery few 'quality' workouts here and there is tough enough for me. awesome, man.
thanks for sharing this sage! i'm using a comrades training plan right now to prep for my first 50 mile trail ultra ... and wishing that i had some mountains around here to trail on! looking forward to the e-book - my pre-order is already in!
Thanks Sage, already pre-ordered the book and looking forward to it, got a 100 miler coming up in 5 weeks so training hard for it, my second attempt as I DNF'd my first but I'm not giving in this time.
One of the most underrated workouts for runners of all distances. Kenyans even those running only 5kms or the 3000 steeple tend to do such workouts maybe not 8 mile but definitely 8km for example!
Great to have you running the Comrades Marathon...just subscribed to your channel so will use these tips for next years down run. I am currently gearing up mentally for the up run and - like you- am looking forward to the challenge (although I must admit our times will be far apart, I am an 11 hour runner :) Best of luck in the final stages of your preparations! )
Hey sage!! I enjoy all your material very informative and useful thanks a lot!! When are you coming back to enjoy comrades marathon again? I’m going for my 4th comrades this year!! 👍
Sage your videos are great source of information. I am in the military and a avid runner. I have been plague by injurys the last couple of yrs but your information has helped me get back to it. I have always wanted to run a marathon. I run high 6 minute miles right now but at the age of 37 it's not to bad. I have a goal pace of 7:30/8 minute miles in mind. What can I do to prepare for the distance at this pace?
please read or anyone, i live in AZ and theres not realy any hills by me and i need to get some hill work outs in, should i hit the treadmill and put on steep incline? i have a free gym membership, or should i just forget about it and keep running flat ground? im trying to get faster and build my stamina for long races. thanks!
Hey man, just got your channel and dig it. For your running shoes, do you wear the same ones in Tempo that you would for racing or do you change em up?
I've been following an incline to flat treadmill conversion chart off a previously mentioned website and it seems painfully intense compared to speeds I've run on flat road for 10-12 miles straight. When using that chart I feel doomed after one mile and have to lower the incline.
Hey Sage, what pair of Hoka One Ones did you wear for comrades? I’m leaning towards using the bondis. I’m just worried they might be too heavy for such a long run and maybe the Clifton’s might be better. I would appreciate your advice on this!
In the early 40K with calming 750M. most of the entrants will slow their pace. and the rest 50K more like real race. just IN my point of view on Comrades :P
This is one of my favorite videos you have. Do you think a workout like this would help with 5k and 10k (flat) races? It wouldn't be specific to it, but you'd think it would make the flat race feel super easy. Just seems to be a great workout if I didn't want to go to the track for a workout and I have a ton of hills where I live.
major props to Sandi for filming in those elements.....
Ken Pak and for being err well fit 👍

To talk that well after that effort... amazing.
Wish you well with your training for Comrades. You are one heck of a runner. Go Sage.
So gods do hurt a bit like us mortal men do! You're the man, Sage! Good luck on Comrades! Thanks for helping me get through my first Ultra!

One of your best videos of all time! Thanks for the inspiration!
Sage, I have a newfound respect for you. Running for so long at that pace with that steep an incline. My god, I would have died a mile in at a much slower pace.
this video smooooookesssssss, the music, the setting, the HR wtf??? and man he hasn't got his hill legs yet, you're the boss sage!

specific demands require specific training, well said Sage!
Very very good workout! A must do.

Ouch! Good for you for toughing it out on such a miserable day. Go Sage!
Awesome!! Glad to see we all have the same struggles. See you at Comrades

Fun hill run to train on. We don't have roads like that where I am staying. Really jealous
Thanks Sage for those awesome videos, really best videos on youtube! Keep them up!! :)
Thanks and well done, Sage.
Tough Hill... ahhh!
Keep moving. :-)
Great effort Sage, respect for running hard in that rain ;)
Sage I have felt the sam, my cardio is better than muscular system. I need to push myself a little bit. Training for my first ultra!
Love these videos and I know they must be hard to put together and film. Thank you so much!
The sage Canadian has a lot of good training ideas.

Nuruddin Hakim he needs to get the ginger one to produce him some tunage, I'd buy
Man, you are crazy!
This seems like Olympic level! And if it's not, I can't even imagine!
great video:) thx guys!
Great video Sage, motivating to see you hitting hills in the rain. What watch are you using?
Awesome Dude ! Us Runners know why :)

Uphill Vo2 Max workouts like 5 x 4 minutes hard with equal recovery really improve your aerobic power and therefore decrease your 5k/10k time
are you coming to cape town? you should stop of at cape town *before* you head up for comrades. Meet up with Ryan Sandes et al maybe ... :)
anyone know the music?
+ExcellentName47 its one of Sages songs
FN Monster!
"This is gonna suck so hard!" :)
Dang bro, your so fast!!
Why are you not running facing on-coming traffic?
now do it AGAIN !
OMG.
You're not on the right side of the road, bud :)
