I do believe in paying the bit extra for import tools from established suppliers. As well as the support - I think when you buy direct you can run the risk of getting whatever rejects are left over. HI Dean, I am envious of you having the machinists meets (Bar Z Bash etc). Here the community meetings are more around model making and that might be because our home shops are generally smaller due to space limitations. Good film Paul. We really don't know how lucky we are in the UK. My wife recently had breast cancer. From finding a lump in her breast to having had an operation to remove it was 4 weeks. Selling your house to pay for treatment? What kind of a society is that to live in?! Greatest country on earth my arse.
Hi Carl, I do not know the exact circumstances. I think there was maybe a hospital clinic covered by insurance, but the top specialist clinics were more expensive and might not be fully covered by the insurance (hence the reference to selling the house). But I do remember as a fact that Bear collapsed at home and a private ambulance was called but he sent them away due to the cost, and his son took him to the emergency room (A&E) in his car. I do hope your wife is ok? Send me an email if you want. Cheers

Hi Julia, we are very lucky to have the Autojumble close by. It varies each time. Sometimes it's all car bits and general tool sellers, and other times there are a decent number of machining sellers. But you can never tell and it's only £2 per person to get in. Cheers

But everyone needs a bit of encouragement and making the vids does take me between 1 and 3 days a week by the time it's shot and edited, reviewed and loaded, and then I respond to the comments, and planning out my next vids and buying bits for those. Hi, regarding your shop vac, it may be worth looking at the commutator. First a visual to see if it needs undercutting and secondly check the armature/rotor with an ohm meter for continuity and insulation to see if any windings are damaged. I know it’s old but a little bit of TLC could increase its life. Thanks for a great video
Hi Roger, you are right of course but I spend a bit of time on a lawn mover motor a while back skimming the commutator and in the end it was still junk so honestly just getting another is quicker. My son has a spare. Now I did skim the pickup ring on the magneto on my Triumph T110 back in about 1976 and that worked fine 😁
Some nice birthday presents there Paul, got to agree about the cobalt drills, they really are so much better than HSS. If you decide to have a trip out to RDG Tools, be careful. The last time I was there, it cost me over £600. Bit of a sad Haxby Shed, I'd dipped into both, but hadn't subscribed, at least Matty seems to have recovered well from his "rust". I hadn't realised quite how much backroom activity there is between the various creators. Maybe I should set up a channel instead of "stalking" and commenting.

Well coming to the party a little late sometimes has its advantages. I am able to report that Kimber has now got in excess of 1030 subscribers. Well done all involved. Well done Mr Haxby too. It is unfortunate that many of the engineering contributors on You Tube are not as young as we once were and it is the way of the world that time catches up with them. In the number of years that I have been watching and learning so much from you all I have noted that many channels have gone quiet after a while. All quite sad in a way, but their input is still there for us to appreciate.
Hi Martin, yes RUclips provides us with a great bank of knowledge and network of 'friends' but it also exposes us to personal misfortunes and the cycle of life too. When I was younger I could go years without personally knowing somebody who died - now it's all loaded onto our shoulders by the world wide web. Cheers

Having seen your luck at the auto jumble, I’ve no doubt you won’t be without a shop vac for long… I got some cheap 123 blocks early on (imperial ones, I couldn’t find metric at the time). I think they slightly misunderstood their purpose in the factory as *all* the holes appear to be tapping diameter, with a selection actually tapped. The up-shot is a screw which will screw into a threaded hole won’t pass through an unthreaded hole. In other words they can’t be fastened together into a right angle. Are yours the same? Sorry to hear about BRS. His digital legacy remains… Enjoy the sunshine (and if you’re lucky the Northen Lights) Matt.
Hi Matt, what you foretold is true. My 123 block's non-threaded holes will not allow the 10mm screw to pass through (being about 8.6mm diameter). Not entirely useful. A viewer pointed out that the blocks from Arc Euro Trade do and indeed I checked on their website and they make a point of stating the non-threaded holes are CLEARANCE holes. Been a lesson for me, that one. Cheers

Your mate was right re rusting, I made an rack for my MT tooling just a bit of MDF with parallel holes. Noticed a rust ring on some shafts just where they contacted the MDF. Put a bit of oil on the contact surfaces of the MDF now all is well.

Hi Paul, Great update video tinged with some sadness. I saw Michelles (Rustinox) tribute to Bear a short while ago and had watched some of his videos. He sounded a very genuine person, certainly within the machining community there are lots. I switched off RUclips recently because my father passed away, just over a month ago now, so as you can imagine its been a difficult and busy time for us, together with a lot of travelling. Hopefully things are starting to settle now but Mum isnt too well at the moment. I thought I had subscribed to Kimber but it looks like I didnt, anyway have now subscribed and I see from some of the comments he has broken the 1K mark now. I'm amazed what you seem to regularly pick up at your autojumble and gobsmaked by the generosity of your viewers, you're going to have to wear that T Shirt next time!! All the best
Hi David, we moved back to our home town about 20 years ago partly to be nearer to our parents. They have all gone now. My Dad had dementia for 7 years but they struggled on until my mother began to get confused also. So, at the start of Covid they went into a home but of course we were not allowed to visit. Residents in the home were catching Covid and passing on but somehow my mum and dad dodged it. But we had calls from the home staff every time they were worried. It's a very difficult time. We are lucky with the autojumble just a few miles away. It's a popular event. Frequently I don't find anything I need these days, having already tooled up, but occasionally I will chance upon a gem. @@HaxbyShed Yes we heard the same stories at rest homes over here too. Fortunately my wife's Uncle who lived in a residence for the clergy also avoided it (he officiated our wedding!!). Dad was in the early stages of Alzheimer and both had been very active until recently. Mum is lucky that two of my sisters live nearby, both formerly nurses which helps no end. Not an easy time at the moment. Anyway have a great weekend.

Vacuum you can buy a replacement motor for it, though might be almost the price of a new one. Table top the varnish on underside also means it will not warp with humidity changes, as the wood swells evenly on each side once coated.
Hi Matthew, I just checked and the answer one those ones is no. There are 5 holes on each 2 x 3 face threaded M10 and all the other holes are M10 x 1.5 tapping drill (I measured them at 8.6mm). So to stack them you would need M8 or 5/16 clamp screws through the blocks. I was surprised to find that, but there you have it. Maybe more expensive blocks would be different? Cheers

The late John Stevenson who was active on machining forums and bulletin boards in the 90's and 10'S spotted this and had the correct drilling on the ones made for ArcEuro Trade. Amusing, we have used Tracy Tools for as long as l remember 😊 RDG as well. Sharp Cobalt drills come from uk-drills. Kimber subscription done. You must have noticed how youtube is becoming a trusted source for circumventing both marketing hype and price hiking. Reviews on tooling, materials, quality and methods are invaluable, especially where everyone can contribute their own views. It even provides free products for the youtube channel - honest reviews, honest manufacturers, no price gouging.
Hi Geoff, yes as you say, but I also see RUclipsrs who chase money with paid promotions and sponsors. I would not call it 'selling out' exactly because money may have always been their motivation for starting RUclips. But I know what I prefer. Cheers

Hi Geoff, yes as you say, but I also see RUclipsrs who chase money with paid promotions and sponsors. I would not call it 'selling out' exactly because money may have always been their motivation for starting RUclips. But I know what I prefer. Cheers
