*The Grieving God*
A woman in white robes stood with a solemn gaze. Cradled in her hands was a ghostly image of a world. A jewel of blue and green. Or so it was supposed to be. Three fourths of it was scarred an angry red. An all consuming tide adhering to neither balance nor hierarchy.
There was nothing that could be done for this world. Weak and ailing. It’s core rotten. It’s foundations brittle. So she willed her golden threads, instruments of creation, to destroy all that she had built.
“I’m sorry” she said.
Even now, pockets of survivors remained. Sending their prayers and devotion from protected enclaves. Asking her to deliver them from this corruption. She would not be answering any prayer today.
Golden threads pierced every continent in torrents, rending the crust, shearing bedrock, boring straight toward the core.
“I’m sorry” she continues to say.
Golden tree-like spires now stand on every nation, or rather their remnants. People stream out their shelters to gawk in wonderment. They cry out in joy, shower her with praise. Their god had come to save them after all.
It was better they not know.
She tugged and her threads pulled. Golden roots from fine to thick, constricted. The grand spires resonated as one, pulsing thrice. In an instant, the planet was crushed. Imploded, scattering once more as primordial aether.
“I’m sorry” she would forever say.
And the god wept.
