I've been fortunate to see them play several times live, in different iterations of the band (with Howard, when Howard left and they were a trio for awhile, and then when Jeff Coffin joined, and then when Howard came back again!). I've also seen Béla play multiple times solo and with others, and I've seen Victor's band. They're always amazing, and such sincerely nice and personable people. If they ever come through your area, go see them.
Besides the virtuosity of Bela and both Wootens... Howard Levy has said in interviews (and demonstrated) that he can play harmonica in ANY key - ON ANY KEY HARMONICA, and that he bends notes both on the inhale (like the rest of us) and on the exhale (like absolutely NONE of the rest of us.) Add to that the fact that he's a KILLER keyboard player, and he might be hired. 🤣
Ha, ha!! That bass solo was unlike anything I’ve ever seen!! Wow!! What a great band!! Love it!!❤❤

I first saw them when they opened for Chicago in late 80's or early 90's. Years later Bela told me that tour was their big break into wider recognition.
Storytime: In the early nineties, my parents, my then-fiance, and I went to the Jazz and Rib fest in downtown Columbus. I believe we were hoping to see Spyro Gyra. The place was so packed, we were all turned off, but heard that this little-known combo (Bela Fleck and the Flecktones) would be playing on a floating stage on the other side of the river. I had just heard this group on Austin City Limits a week before, but nobody else had heard of them. So, the four of us, and about 30 other curious folks, watched Bela play from a floating stage and a rowboat and give a mesmerizing performance.
We're still married - working on 28 years!
Hahaha that’s awesome! Love the story 👏👏👏
Young Victor!!! What a pleasure is to live in an era of digital information.
Victor is such a beast!
Great! Thank you!!!
Great band, great song - nothing like having the best banjo player in the world, best bass player in the world and the best synthax drumitar player in the world - all in the same band!
i was fortunate to see them perform in a small room that sat only a couple of hundred people, at AUA in Bangkok, TH. they were on tour for the US State Dept. the afternoon before the show they held a banjo symposium and i was surprised to see there were so many Thai banjo players there.
and then there is ..... victor wooten!
☮❤🙏
Thanks, Jeff. I saw them in concert in the early 90s in Toronto. They were tighter and more polished than in this video. It was beyond great; it was magical!
Victor Wooten is the most amazing bass player ever!!
I enjoyed this - very catchy.
