My only wish is that everything will work out before my partner and I are prepared to buy our first home. worrying that lower rates will result in higher home costs.

defined benefit plans. I remember contributing more than half a million dollars to some very profitable plans, and part of what I was doing there was hiring an IRS-licensed actuary *Leah* *Foster* *Alderman* to do research and figure out how much retirement savings would be required to support a $250,000 annual salary for someone who was used to earning that kind of money.

once you've reached retirement? But what do you know? Your retirement plan will need to include roughly $3.50 million, or $4 million.

an account or plan for personal retirement. I think I should actually speak with your actuary because an individual retirement arrangement is exactly what it sounds like. We also don't know enough about the business side of it.

Tip for folk who don't want to climb the corporate ladder (and not have to do all the networking slog -I hate that stuff 🙂) but just want to earn good money: change jobs every few years to boost your salary, even if it means you're doing the same role so that your workload does not necessarily increase so you're work life balance remains as you'd like it to be, but your salary will. The only time I advise people to stay in one company is if the pay is good enough but there is a generous annual bonus (20%+).

They do say you shouldn't stay longer than 3-5 years in corporate roles, it's also a great way of increasing salary. The trouble is, at the moment with everything so rocky in the economy, jobs are much harder to get and you then lose all of your benefits like pension and sick pay - so do this with caution xx
