Biden's FBI tried to recruit Catholics to spy on other Catholics, priests and congregants. The "swing" is a symptom of the intentional ineffectiveness of the political establishment. The candidates are selected by (corporate) media coverage and politicians do the work of the financial industry, not the work of the people. So people have been going for more and more aggressive outlying politicians trying to find someone who can change things. Trump is just the first wealthy celebrity with presidential aspirations who figured out how to game the media system.
