To James: I like to use at least 6 lb test fluorocarbon line while ice fishing for lake trout but if they are big, then bum,p up to 8 lb test. A medium to medium heavy action rod is preferred in order to allow you to get a good, solid hook set :)
Hi Michael - so glad you enjoyed this rainbow trout episode and we would also like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and all the best in the new year :)
Fishing for rainbow trout really is a lot of fun and I'm sure we'll be out on the ice to do some ice fishing once the weather get colder and there's some safe ice for us :)
This is the first time seeing Antonio rigging after the video has started. His rig is mostly in the waters before the video starts :P Keep up Antonio.. U have a great smile. Keep fishing Sagar India
Hi Yasmin - once we get some safe ice, we'll be sure to get out there to do some ice fishing and if all goes well, perhaps more shore winter fishing also :)
Sometime you should come and try the oswego river and tributaries off of lake ontario, has some great fishing opportunities and the salmon just started to come into the river so give it a try and make a vid as always good fishing
Hi Viktor - glad you enjoyed this rainbow trout episode...we have a few trout episodes on our you tube channel, and the common key component is the T-Turn :)
hi ivo, stream trout are one of my favourite fish. what is your favourite stream trout spot within 2 hours of the gta. what is your favourite stream trout lure, mine is a crankbait.
+reelfishing ...can';t say that I have a favorite stream for trout fishing, but for those very small streams, can't beat running a live leaf worm under a float :)
Thanks for the video! I had work off today and I went to a local pond to try and get some rainbow trout. I got totally skunked! I tried a variety of spinners, worms, powerbait, spoons, etc. I even tried a dry fly on top. Not a thing! I came home and saw this video. I want to try this, but the trout in that pond have never seen salmon eggs, so is there an alternative that you would think would be good? Also, where could the trout be hunkered down in a small pond? I tried along the shore, weed beds, under docks, and in the dead center of the pond. Any ideas?
HI Christopher - look for an area with any current and although they have never seen salmon eggs, they will instinctively bite them - suggest giving them a try :)
Another great video guys. I have one question, I've always wanted to know how far downstream on the upper Niagara those steelhead run. Do they go down to Chippawa? Thanks
HI Justin, the rainbows go all the way down stream - in fact, years ago (when they allowed it) we caught many rainbows right above the falls by the Hydro station :)
I see you're near the mouth of the upper Niagara on the Canadian side because I recognize the American side. Anyway, do the trout run down the whole river past like Strawberry Island and Grand Island? Can you catch them all winter? thanks Ivo
Yes - the trout do run past Straw berry and grand islands - in fact, they run all the way to the brink of the falls and you can catch them all winter long :)
Hi Jedhaase - an excellent trout lure would be to use a small spoon (such as the oz Python Darter or something similar)/ In-line spinners will also work, but spoons would be better - good luck :)
HI Brian, the good thing about ice fishing, there really is no season....all you need is ice and you are good to go :) Hope you are able to get out there and enjoy some ice fishing this year
Suggest trying a bobber and fish suspended or use a T-Turn bottom rig such as in this episode :) ruclips.net/video/YUVylfwalXE/видео.html If you use the T-Turn rig, just cast your line out and since there is no current, slowly drag it back to you - good luck
Thank you for getting back to me. I've been waiting for your response. I plan to get your 10lb braided line and your new fluorocarbon line too. What do you recommend for the fluorocarbon line. Another question. How much pound should the monofilament line be when you start to rig up the braided line.
Jim Vue Hi Jim - when spooling up with braided line, it doesn't really matter what pound test mono you use as a backing, but I prefer to use light mono, such as 6 lb test. As for the fluorocarbon line, I would suggest using 8 lb test - good luck Jim :)
Hi Jim - the styrofoam balls came from a local tackle shop (Peters Tackle in St. Catharines) and the ThunderBraid is available now, but the "ThunderCarbon" (New Fluorocarbon line) will be available soon, around the end of Feb....it's excellent line - you are going to love it :)
Well, I'm waiting to get both those fishing lines and a quite a bit of those t-turn swivels. The braided and fluorocarbon fishing lines will be put on a new rod and spin reel. So I'm now waiting for it. 😊And I'm thinking about getting that cat tail sinker. Do you think the cat tail sinker will be good in a river? I plan to fish from the shoreline with the cat tail sinker. I'm planing to use it to catch trouts.
Jim Vue Congrats on your new rod & reel - the cattail is great to use in rivers, but typically from a boat. If you want to use it from shore, it may be difficult - you would have to keep your rod tip high at all times....as for the T-Turns, they are fantastic :)
What I dont understand, isnt trout fishing specific dates you can legally fish. I am no expert but I see alot of ice fishing and like what your doing. Isnt it illegal? What am I missing
+robby seese Here are a couple of ice fishing videos with some tips for you :)ruclips.net/video/jB6WVUR0cuY/видео.html ruclips.net/video/E5KVj_gB3PE/видео.html
There is a pink stripe/band that runs from the head to the tail. It might be faint or fairly noticeable depending on the maturity of the trout. Hope this help =)
Young Buck Hi Young - these rainbows/steelhead are very edible and this was public land - there are plenty of places in Fort Erie which have public access :)
Young Buck This trout episode was filmed on the upper Niagara River in Fort Erie On - in Bowmanville, there is a river running into Lake Ontario and that will hold trout :)
Early winter trout are the prettiest trout. :) Those rainbows and silvery winter browns are so nice looking.

Merry xmas you guys, point pele came to mind :o)
Merry Christmas to you as well and Happy New Year also :)
when ice fishing for lake trout, what is the best pound test and action rod to use?
Hohohooooo whata hit!
Another great video guys. I have one question, I've always wanted to know how far downstream on the upper Niagara those steelhead run. Do they go down to Chippawa? Thanks
HI Justin, the rainbows go all the way down stream - in fact, years ago (when they allowed it) we caught many rainbows right above the falls by the Hydro station :)
could you please do some more carp fishing videos. i would love to see more. Please!!!!!!!!!!
We certain will once Spring arrives and the weather warms up...the carp go somewhat dormant in the winter :)
Great catch. Here in Plymouth MA, USA, I dream of a trout that large.
Will you do a winter bass fishing video?
Hi Daniel - we will try and hopefully we will be able to get out and do some ice fishing as well :)
Hey there just wondering ifs better to catch salmon in fort Erie or queenston boat dock in February March
Queenston is much better and the Fall is much better than the Spring 🎣
@@thundermistlures thank-you again
Hello, I recently bought some viper spoons on amazon and was wondering if you get benefited by me buying them.
Hi Timmy - congrats on buying your Viper Spoons - you are going to love using them :) And its always a benefit :)
Hey I know this doesn't go really with ur video but do u know if the reel grip x will fit on the shamano stractic ci4+
Hi Gavin - although I have not tried them, I believe it will fit :)
"He's barely hooked-oops there he goes!"
Hi Jake - yes, I was really lucky to land that rainbow trout....the second time :)
Great video boys
Where is this ? And what lake ??
Upper Niagara River, Fort Erie ON :)
What lures would be best for trout this time of year? I can't get my hands on any roe bags or live bait.
Hi Jedhaase - an excellent trout lure would be to use a small spoon (such as the oz Python Darter or something similar)/ In-line spinners will also work, but spoons would be better - good luck :)
By any chance do u know when the ice fishing season is open?
Thx a lot.
HI Brian, the good thing about ice fishing, there really is no season....all you need is ice and you are good to go :) Hope you are able to get out there and enjoy some ice fishing this year
Any suggestions for spots like this around toronto?
Bronte creek :)
*****
Thanks, will try it out in march.
Where is this if you don't mind me asking Ivo and what type of roe is that you're using
This rainbow trout episode was filmed in Fort Erie ON and we were using salmon roe in this rainbow trout episode :)
So how would you fish from the shore in a still water lake that doesn't have a current.
Suggest trying a bobber and fish suspended or use a T-Turn bottom rig such as in this episode :) ruclips.net/video/YUVylfwalXE/видео.html
If you use the T-Turn rig, just cast your line out and since there is no current, slowly drag it back to you - good luck
Thank you for getting back to me. I've been waiting for your response. I plan to get your 10lb braided line and your new fluorocarbon line too. What do you recommend for the fluorocarbon line.

Yall should try bouncing shrimp instead of roe bags it's easy and effective
themantbone23 Thanks for the trout bait tip :)
So when can I buy that new fishing line? And where did you buy your styrofoam balls for your roe bags?
Thanks for all the advices.
one day ivo you should try doing a giveaway on a good rod and a few different baits
Thanks for the feedback and idea Jahyquan :)
u guys r eating them or releasein them all?
Sometimes we catch and keep and other times we catch and release :)
الله ينور
Been a while since your last video, any ice fishing vids on the way? :)
....if all goes well.....we have not had much ice close by and need to travel a bit, but should happen soon :)
What brand and size is your hook?
Hi Jim - I believe that day I was running a gamakatsu hook, size 2 :)
What I dont understand, isnt trout fishing specific dates you can legally fish. I am no expert but I see alot of ice fishing and like what your doing. Isnt it illegal? What am I missing
Hi John - fishing for trout on the Niagara River in Ontario is open all year :)
And ya IVO

+robby seese Here are a couple of ice fishing videos with some tips for you :)ruclips.net/video/jB6WVUR0cuY/видео.html ruclips.net/video/E5KVj_gB3PE/видео.html
Do you have a favorite NHL team? Mine is Calgary
Toronto :)
how can you tell a rainbow from a steelhead?? also your net had a hole in it!!!!
There is a pink stripe/band that runs from the head to the tail. It might be faint or fairly noticeable depending on the maturity of the trout. Hope this help =)
As droogie1991 indicated, the rainbows will have a pinkish strip on them whereas the steelhead are typically long/slender and all silver :)
....and we'll have to fix that hole in the net :) :) :)
What knot do you use.
I like to use the Palomar knot and the single uni-knot :) ruclips.net/video/l5-9ArBdM0Q/видео.html ruclips.net/video/zQu-hMQPFHw/видео.html
I swear that's a steelhead. The white tipped fins tell me that.
Why won't you try to fish for stripers I would like to see that and my name is Allen ps good luck if you catch a stripers :)
They didn't show releasing him?
Hatchery fish?
....Hard to say, but it didn't look like one as it was perfect (i.e. no clippings anywhere). The rainbows are thriving in Lake Erie
Gonna assume ice fishing is the next video
Not sure if the next one will be or not, but we do plan on ice fishing :)
are they edible and is that private property or is there public acces
Young Buck Hi Young - these rainbows/steelhead are very edible and this was public land - there are plenty of places in Fort Erie which have public access :)
Where was this shot and do you know an places to go in bowmanville for trout
Young Buck This trout episode was filmed on the upper Niagara River in Fort Erie On - in Bowmanville, there is a river running into Lake Ontario and that will hold trout :)
Poor Phil got his feet wet.
how are you guys not wearing gloves?
...we should have been, but after a while, you just get used to it :)
Im surpirzed phill didnt get hypothermia
LOL :)
Any time I trout fish in the winter the fish will end up in the frying pan and if I have a good day's catch some will go into the freezer..
Nothing beats fresh trout out of cold water - delicious :)
I don't know what's more annoying, the way you say trout or the amount of times you said "folks"
Thanks for writing in JuGGtimus1 and for sharing your feedback with us - all the best to you and good fishing :)
JuGGtimus1 whats more annoying is you texting.
