In my opinion, its hard to go pure geomancer, unless you somehow get a very lucky early T2 Geomancy skill book for Stone Spikes. And even then, melee is my way of recovering energy at times. So, tips-wise: I usually get Runic Boulder (Geomancy) and Hail of Blows (Staves) with my first 2 points. Step Aside! (Staves) is next just to broaden my options in fights. Stone Armor (Geomancy) can be taken after, but at this stage, you can start investing into Survival for up to Austerity (lower survival need requirements, increase tolerances). Early game fights suck since melee is almost always the case for all fights. You can and should whittle down mobs with Runic Boulders if you can, especially if you can get the enemies to be knockbacked by your Runic Boulder into a wall for tons of damage/daze. If your enemy does not have an obstacle behind (for knockback advantage), use your Runic Boulder to make one behind your enemy, then try and knockback the mob into your boulder for damage. Unlike other builds, you can use your Runic Boulder to try and delay mobs advancing towards you, so you should always try to turn fights into a 1v1 at all times, especially at this stage of your run. I also returned to my tried and tested build later on after I recorded this, turning my stat spread into 20 Str, 10 Agi, 15 Perception, 17 Vitality, 20 Willpower. I was experimenting with Agi and it didn't feel good, so going Willpower for spell cost reduction/abilities cost reduction is much better and stronger as a Geomancer.
In early game you gonna suffer no matter what. especially if you go mage. Try to take it slow and prepared fights and lvl up as fast as you can. Go explore it gives you xp also you can get some items like Witch staff and Hat. EDIT: Craft items because they give a good chunk of XP for the 1st craft. Also steal any hide from the hunters bar and craft a sleeping bag for easy 250xp or wait until you reach lvl 2 and put 1 point to the reasourcefullnes perk in the survival tree and it will give you 500xp for 1st craft (note that crafting only gives decent XP when you craft that item the first time. You still get xp for crafting more but much less)
i am playing similar thing too Geomancer with 2H mace level 10 now, but so far only put skill point in geo, arcobatic and magic mastery. do you recommend 2H mace or 1H with shield? and what skill you suggest to put ,in mace /shield? thanjs!
i am lv30 PURE geomancer with full T5 gear and artifact, T5 dungeon is very easy But i still cant finish manticore spawn too many soilders, as I dont have any close combat skill, I have no room to cast....
You probably will need to dedicate a bit of time to dealing with the skeleton swarm as a pure geomancer. You can abuse the fact that the Manticore WILL always use the Bone Pyre skill when you are surrounded by 2 or more skeletons. This will get rid of all skeletons on the field, though you will take some damage. In that period, thats your best chance to start throwing spells at the Manticore as it builds its army back up.

You have to try and solve this quest another way. Try taking the book you find at the camp back to L'OwCrey and see what he says.
