everyone is talking about this being a breakup song but it is so much more than that. and everyone is talking about wonu and his rapping but no one is mentioning his rap at 1:19 which i really think seals the deal for what this song is meant to portray? he's talking about "your small scars gathered and grew big" and his regret on not noticing that. mingyu talks about wanting to make "you" laugh again. coups' rap includes letting go and wondering if "you" would still be "here," and Vernon's is about "your" path and his twisting away but he yearns for "you" to come back and sometimes imagine that "you" will, but knows eventually that "you" are gone. take it any way you want, but this isn't just a breakup song. they are discussing something deeper, especially with the use of "if i..." and "if i could..." "if i" could turn things back, I'd fix them, I'd bring "you" back, sure, but this isn't just a girl breaking up with her boyfriend and the boy being heartbroken. 1) seventeen and hip-hop unit especially is too woke for that, and 2) the lyrics indicate something different. THIS SONG IS SO BEAUTIFUL AND QUITE NOSTALGIC-- I FEEL ALL EMOTIONAL ;___; PLUS, MINGYU AND WONWOO ARE SHINING. Ok like Wonwoo's lines, especially his rap portion in the song- he is completely SLAYING dat ish. His voice sounds so heavy and seriously contrasts the other three... it adds such a regretful, almost bitter, and heavy handed tone to the song which is pretty much the very essence of 'If I'. This song is all about pain of regret and the what if's in life: "If I didn't let them go..."; Meanwhile Mingyu's soft singing sounds so innocent and pure (especially in the bridge) which represents the kind of sweet sorrow and nostalgia of lost love and imagining what COULD have been in the past, but isn't. When you put those two together you get this piece of FREAKIN DYNAMIC ART. Or at least much of it... Seungcheol and Vernon's singing + rapping was great as always. I just think Mingyu and Wonwoo added the most to the song because their voices suited it so damn well.

I think someone that one/all the members loved died, it's so full of emotion & the way they talk about doing the most simplest of things if they got a second chance really shows that they deeply cared for this person.
