Sorry for your bad experience. I live in São Paulo, Brazil. I had Forerunner 245, 255, 955, Fenix 7x SS, all of them always worked perfectly. I just acquired an Epix Pro 51mm less than a week. So far I've already done some street running and one 4 hour trail running in a mix of open sky area and close woods area. GPS in automatic selection. South America Topoactive map. GPS is working perfect. Have you tried to change the watch itself with Garmin dealer? I believe it's a problem of the watch. Good luck. And congrats for your videos. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
I plan to get a replacement in December, so I hope everything is better after that. Most other people agree with you, they say their products have been reliable.
Nice video mate. I have seen a similar thing (gps & compass issues)with the Fenix 7 Pro, 7S Sapphire & 7X pro Solar in my hikes/runs. Keep crushing it mate! Just a heads up that I’m getting much better gps performance in the Fenix 8.. no issues as of yet
Awesome video and lots of good luck in your travels. Could there be a possibility that you got a counterfeit product ? I am from South America and stores sell a lot of counterfeit products. My family still lives in South America, they love apple products and they always wait to come to the U.S. to buy them since they don't want to have the possibility of buying a counterfeit products.
Thank you. I don't know; I bought it from an "authorized dealer" but I thought it was legitimate. I would have bought it in the US if I wasn't traveling.
Have absolutely 100% different experience. GPS compass navigation all works perfect since I have the watch. Even finds routes on the topoactive maps that arent on Google Maps or Apple Maps. Edit: to be fair I haven’t been in South America but a friend of mine has been and had no issues there either..
might have been a defective unit, but, the issue with gps accuracy happened to me in australia with my iphone. i tend to believe that gps doesn't work as good when you are south of the equator
@@yeknomhtooms If so, then Garmin should make it known that their products don't work well in the southern hemisphere. But they are selling their products down here. That would be a very immoral business practice.
The Garmin watches comes with electronic compass (used as standalone simple compass) and a gps compass (used in maps/navigation etc.). Can you check if you have the same problems with finding North when you are using navigation with gps. I think is a problem with your watch, because I'm sure there are many Garmin users in south hemisphere too and if is a general problem with compass in that part of the globe, it should have been a huge scandal.
Hey Carlos. I just saw your comment, RUclips didn't notify me about this. I plan to get a replacement in December and I hope it works well. Thanks for you opinion
Old and slow tech, You have to be out of your mind to buy garmin when other companies like samsung with the "ultra" are half the price that can be traded in after years of use and updated....garmin does not support their products nearly as well as samsung. Dont get stuck with a $1000.00 paper weight like I did....garmin customer service is the worst.
Yes, you might be right. Lesson learned. Garmin started out as the leading company for GPS products, but now there are so many competing companies. There is no reason to stick with Garmin anymore.

@@PreparedToWander I'm pretty sure (and I hope) after you replace it everything will be just fine and perfect. Good Luck.
Thank you for sharing… and I value your opinion

Garmin makes some cool products, I hope they can get flawless performance in the future. Happy the Fenix 8 is working for you.

It's entirely possible that I just got a bad product. Maybe just bad luck. But I can't say for sure because it's so inconsistent.
I live in Santiago, i've used Garmin for 6-7 years and no issues with the compass here.
So maybe mine is flawed. But it's strange that mine is beginning to work better now.

Yes, hard to say exactly what the problem is. But I expected Garmin to have a solution for this kind of issue.
@@PreparedToWander seems to me more related to usa not having enough gps satellites south of the equator

My Epro 51 is perfect!
Mine has been working 95% better now, but I'm going to get a replacement as soon as I am back home. I still can't trust my current one.
No problems here.

It's worth testing. But as my compass is (more) reliable now, it will be harder to test the difference between standalone and GPS functions.
My epix pro gen 2 51mm sapphire is the best watch I've ever had. And believe me, I've had a few. Yours must be defective

switched to Amazfit T Rex, couldn't be happier.
I wish I could. But I'm stuck with this.
What size is this watch please and what’s your wrist size not that it makes any difference to its performance
I don't know my wrist size, but it's the 47mm face.
probably needs a software update something could be corrupt
I tried that with Garmin customer support. It didn't help.
