Hullo Karen, thank you for sharing some wonderful techniques and real world solutions to questions that keep cropping up! I like how you say this is what works for me, but YOU must decide what will work for you and your desired effect! Excellent instruction on scumbeling ! If I even spelled it correctly! You certainly explained it perfectly and with examples too! I am looking forward to watching your next Q&A video!
Wow this was very helpful. I haven't asked any question yet, but I realy enjoyed watching this video. Really appreciate it. You are very generous for sharing this. Thanks a lot.
This was an excellent demo!!! Your viewers are at different stages of their artistry so it's good to go over the basics of pastel painting. Please continue to share. Blessings.
What a fun and informative class! This has been very helpful and you even addressed a question I’ve had about mists and fog that was not submitted. I like this format and hope you’ll do another. See you in your Patreon group which is awesome and a powerful learning resource. Thank you!
Thank you Karen 👍 🙂 everytime i watch you i always learn something new about pastel, my late father's main medium besides graphites. My first loves are watercolour and charcoal, but my heart always going back and forth with pastel, either soft or oil pastel.
I loved this format! You answered lots of questions I had not yet thought of, but all are issues I will or have encountered. I’d love to see you do something like this on a regular basis. Thanks, Karen!
Great instruction and techniques here...Thank you for sharing:) It looks like your paper is attached directly to the black foam board. I could not find the videos that you mentioned (of Nancy ?). I guess I'm wondering if there are any tricks to "temporarily" attaching the paper directly to the black board to secure it...
Dear Karen, I have been wondering how do I know when I need to start out with a wet wash of color or just no wash underneath?? By the way I have been loving this new series of finding the best pastel for a beginner... when do we get to see some more sets? By the way I think you are pretty great!!👍👍😃👋
Thank you for your kind words! I wish there was a quick answer to your question but the truth is there is really no right or wrong time to do a wet wash. It depends on the subject and the overall mood you want to create. The more you experiment the more you will be able to make more informed decisions. I have reviewed other sets over on my Patreon group. If you have not yet joined us I hope you will consider it! www.patreon.com/karenmargulis Thanks so much for watching!
When you mount paper on a thicket board, and frame later with a mat, how do you offset the depth of the boat around the edges so the mat board is flush. I hope this makes sense. Also, is the foam core you buy from the dollar tree acid free? Or do you just use that for a backing board when painting? If not, do you buy a different type, ie. Acid free to put behind your painting when you store them in a clear sleeve. I think that may have been the question. Which color do you use for storing?
Honestly I don't do any framing myself anymore. When I did I would use acid green mat board for the backing which is thinner than the foam core. The dollar tree foam core is supposed to be acid free but I only use to for painting support boards. I do use it when I use clear bags but I am not worried because it is not for long term storage.
Here are the links. They are links to Patreon posts :In the video I talked about an easy way to mount sanded paper using acid free board and Scotch Photo Mount spray. I referred you to my friend Nancy Nowak's video on how she mounts paper. Here is the link to that post: www.patreon.com/posts/video-tip-from-24979996 I also mentioned a video I made about how I photograph my work. i want to try working on sanded paper since i've heard it is amazing, but its very expensive where i live. can i know cheaper alternatives or how to prepare it at home? and btw this session was amazing!
I practice on Masonite panels coated with clear gesso. I can wash off the panel and keep the rough surface and start over with a clean surface. I am still learning about how to use these pastel sticks and I have not created very many finished artworks! Good luck!
Enjoyed this video, very helpful. I mount Uart paper and if I use watercolor still have issues with buckling. Seems okay if I use alcohol but limits my underpainting choices.
I appreciate the Q and A opportunity. Many thanks!🎉

Thanks for watching! You can use clear gesso to add grit to unsanded paper!

I wish uart would fix the curliness of their product, considering all of us have a problem with it.
Where can i find the blair fixative please ?
I usually get it online at Blicks or Amazon but it seems to always be on back order
Wonderful video, very helpful
