What is good quality writing paper for calligraphy ?

Is the fact you are holding these pens tip up when you aren't using them the reason they seem to be drying out and skipping when you try to switch colors? If not, I am not too impressed with these pens if a professional demonstrator can't get them to perform well. Yikes.
