Another useful thing I found out about country tuning is that you could also play in other positions and get access to a whole range of scales. For instance on a C country tuned harmonica, you can get the G major scale in cross harp, the D mixolydian scale in third position, the A major scale in fourth position, and an overblowless F# blues scale in seventh position.

    Shanti,
Since you now have an F# instead of F natural on a C harp, 1st position now gives you a lydian scale (or mode) rather than ionian (or major). This is equivalent to 12th position on a standard tuned harp. Keep in mind that, as Mr Duncan said, you can bend that F# down to F natural, so you can still play a C major scale in the middle octave. Good luck, and feel free to message me if you need help with any of the theory here.

Which is better standard or country tuned special 20? Does country tuned includes both the qualities of country and blues? Which is good for beginners??

So if the music is in D for a song like Silent Night normally played on a D, which country tuned harmonica do you need?

Silent Night plays in second position starting on draw 4 on a Country tuned harp. To play in D use a G harp.

I believe that if you can overblow you don't need a country tuned harp, correct?

Yes, but the overblow is often squawky sounding, depending on how good you are at it and how good your harps are setup... even then the overblow can be noticed, and not as easily sustained as a country-tuned note, which really does not stand out at all... plus you can flatten/bend the note down to get the regular note on the 5 draw.

Great Job!!!!! That ring does not fit "YOU"...Try silver with a red emerald ....You were a great help to me.....I stopped playing a harmonica in 1953 (13 YEARS OLD) because I could not get the Hohner to fix the harmonica to my stander (13 years old)...I pick my Harmonica back up in April 2016...I'm still trying to get any Harmonic company to remove the first two holes and add two holes at the high end plus change the fifth hole to a county tuning standard ....F#.

The Harmonica in the background sounds like Mario. I really want it right now. (That's what she said)
