I actually had that feeling of suspicion when hearing the song over and over back when I play Ace Combat games in PS2, and years later, after I discovered Wikia and TV Tropes, it turns out to be true indeed and I was surprised!
I thought the first razgriz demon was the sumbarin and the hero razgriz was wardog

It’s pretty funny how Yuktobania didn’t hear there was a Razgriz in 1995. Then again, why would they ever take interest in Ustio when a giant country like Osea is blocking their path? No wonder Cipher disappeared from history that easily.

Well they wouldn't want to make every connection obvious to everyone. The mytholigical background elements tipped off so many fans worldwide in some form or another. Directly mentioning the battle in this song, while I agree is unconventional, probably spared us a little bit of campy/cheesiness. And all know there's enough anime style silliness going on as is, with the characters mainly. I think it is a very delicate balance the writers managed to weave here. Ace Combat, while inspired by many literary works and other old tales, managed to be something original in it's own right, and with the powerhouses Zero and Unsung Hero, that tale came to the best possible fruition we could have ever had. We live in the best possible universe for that sort of story telling to happen over such a medium in the 2000s.
I remember realizing as a kid how good games were at telling stories. Gun on PS2 was another one that had my attention in terms of sheer story telling. Red Dead fans should check that game out.
