  • This video suggests Mark Lawrence’s brilliant character work as one of several reasons why The Prince of Fools begins The Red Queen’s War Trilogy in a manner worthy of The Broken Empire Trilogy, Lawrence’s previous tale set in the same world.

His Book of the Ancestor Trilogy is absolutely incredible. I think you will really enjoy that. I tried to read the first book of the Broken Empire a long time ago but I really loathed the main protagonist, Jorg. and I dropped the book. I never picked up another Mark Lawrence book again until Red Sister came out, but I decided to try him again and was absolutely blown away by it. I read and loved all three books in that trilogy.

I’m really looking forward to the Book of the Ancestor Trilogy, and I’m sure I’ll enjoy it since Mark Lawrence has a perfect record of impressing me. Regarding The Broken Empire Trilogy, I completely understand why you’d put it down if you didn’t like Jorg. He’s pretty much the main show there. I suspect you might enjoy Jalan Kendeth a bit more. He’s something of a scoundrel, but he’s not wounded like Jorg, and I found him fun to be around. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Been holding on to this one till I finish the book. I finished it an hour ago. I felt it was better than the Broken Empire books, but I wanted more hints to the world tying together. Maybe in the later books it will.

I really enjoyed Prince of Fools, and I’m going to be reading book 2 fairly soon, possibly the week after next. I enjoyed the cameos from various Broken Empire characters. Part of me wanted even more of them too, but Jalan and Snorri were awesome, and I loved getting to know them. Thanks for watching, and I hope you’ll enjoy The Liar’s Key when you get to it!

Danny Matson Thank you! I really enjoy Lawrence’s writing, though I can see where people who find Jorg Ancrath too grim of an anti-hero would have a hard time with The Broken Empire Trilogy. As always, I’m grateful that you’re watching!

Congratulations on 1,000 subs! Really looking forward to reading more from Mark Lawrence, so far I've only read his Impossible Times trilogy which looks very different from any of his others. I've heard great things about the Red Queen's War trilogy, loved to hear your thoughts on the first entry. Will you be picking up the Red Sister/Grey Sister/Holy Sister series in future?

Thanks so much! I have not read Lawrence's Impossible Times Trilogy, so I'd love to hear your thoughts on that. My plan is to finish the Red Queen's War Trilogy and then move on to the Book of the Ancestor Trilogy (Red Sister, etc.). I love Lawrence's writing enough to want to read everything he's published. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Philip Chase Congratulations!!! It’s a well deserved milestone as you put out consistently great videos and I personally love hearing your options!! Additionally, super excited you started reading the red queens war! The last book in that series is my favorite Mark Lawrence book! As for the impossible times trilogy! It’s the best time travel story I’ve ever read (and the only Mark Lawrence book that has made me cry) I really hope you get around to it!! Congratulations again!!!!!!

Joe's Review Journal I love The Broken Empire Trilogy, and so far I’ve found The Red Queen’s War Trilogy really lives up to it. Lawrence is really impressing me. I look forward to your take on Prince of Thorns if you decide to make a video on it!

Philip Chase I’ve started scripting for it already. I hope to have it out soon. I find that a lot of people are divided on it and for some good reasons but I find Jorg to be a brilliant character. He is flawed, dark, brooding, harsh but determined. I’m excited to be finishing the final 90 pages or so tomorrow.

It’s a fantastic trilogy. The second book is longer and goes in directions I never expected, and the third is a brilliant ending. Jalan and Snorri make one of the best pairs in the genre.

@@PhilipChaseTheBestofFantasy I found myself laughing out loud at their conversations and yeah I definitely agree. great writing by Mark Lawrence with these two characters! I keep hearing the broken empire trilogy wasn't that good compared to this one because of how dark Jorg is, should I give it a chance?
