in all my years loving the HOTD franchise, and that's before I could even talk, I had never once noticed "Challenger, go at throttle up" until I was researching the Challenger and the wikipedia page mentioned it!
I wonder if anyone could take the effort to record the House of the Dead 1 music from the actual Model 2 arcade hardware (NOT from Model 2 Emulator or MAME). The synth bass on this song sounds a whole lot better when comparing the arcade hardware to Model 2 Emulator.
Racing Transformed brought me here... This original version is much more kickass than than the one Richard jacques made imo. That synth also reminds me of the theme that plays on the Go Race Menu from Gran Turismo 2.

I also wonder why Sega never eventually re-released the first House Of The Dead on a more powerful gaming system, that could have given us an arcade perfect port too for that matter, while 2 & 3 got four console versions each?
freakyfornash there is a rumor that SEGA had lost the source code to the original house of the dead which is why to this day, only 2-4 have gotten ports to modern consoles while the first one only remains on saturn, PC, and arcade machine. Im not sure how "true" this rumor is being i always thought to myself "cant they just grab the source code from any HOTD arcade machine and re use it?" Would seem logical to me but then again, im sure its not possible and theres a reason why its not. Sucks cause I love this one the most (4 being my favorite) and it hurts me everytime they acknowledge the series in their "Sega All Stars" series with levels based on HOTD and music used from the games (this being the most famous one imo) yet they never bother giving it any attention outside of it. Its like a cruel tease :(

You'd think there would have to be at least SOME way they'd be able to port the original H.O.T.D. to any new console if they really wanted to. The only times i've seen give them a shit about HOTD series to a certain extent was just levels in All Stars Racing, and 3-4 being ported to the PS3/PS4 (which also makes me wonder, why not two as well? Two was the first i ever played as a little kid and was one of the first Dreamcast games I had owned next to Sonic Adventure, Phantasy Star Onine, those Sega Dreamcast Generator Vol discs, etc. i start playing 2 again on my hacked wii and it really makes me wonder why SEGA never ported it to modern consoles as of right now? I really hate that their main focus is just Sonic and they have all these great series mostly from the Genesis era such as Alexx The Kid, Shinobi (despite the 3DS game), Golden Axe, Streets of Rage 2, and even other non genesis games like Jet Set Radio that the only time we get to see them today is as "characters" rather than their own separate game smh....
And that's a prime example of how Sega is clearly no longer the great company they once were, even if they'll still always be my favorite one of all time. I also can't believe Virtua Cop 3 never got ported either for that matter, but WAS able to have someone rig up, and install it on my original Xbox console, which is far better than nothing. At least The House Of The Dead 4 got ported, even if it took long enough to make that happen. That, and Namco DID at least make Time Crisis 5, which gives me hope Sega will eventually do the same with H.O.T.D. 5 one day too.

Wish they'd kept the Hangedman's laughter in this version, always kept me on my toes before his boss battle.
Aside from Challenger disaster samples, the synth at 1:00 sounds like something out of Namco games like Galaxian 3 and Tekken.
