do aarzoo mein kat gaye do intezaar mein..
kitna hai bad-naseeb Zafar dafn ke liye,
do gaz zameen bhi na mili koo-e-yaar mein..
lagta nahin hai dil mera ujrhe dayaar mein,
kiski bani hai aalam-e-napayedaar mein..
The emperor was not meant for ruling in that cruel time. He was a great artist with very sensitive heart, great human being, far ahead of the time.
BHAI WAH, KYA DARD RAHA HOGA, HAMAREY BADSHAH BAHADUR SHAH JAFAR SAHIB KE DIL MEY. SUNAKAR DIL RONEY KO VIVASH HO UTHATA HAI.

Bahadur shah zafar is one of the greatest moghuls notwithstanding his lack of real power . He was really a shadow of God! Himself a great poet, a connoisseur of arts , and above all he had a lofty heart ! He stood for the unity of Hindus and Muslims, strove to protect it in troubled times , tried even to protect the poor English women and children during the mutiny to the extent possible. Its high time we honour his noble memory !
That poor fellow was less ruler, but a more poet, and this poetry cost him very dearly. He wasted all his energy on poetry and was surrounded by cheap poet friends, just to hear Wa, Wa & wa (without any means or logic). He did't give much attention on his country's affairs. The cunning people who were granted permission to enter India for business, took full advantage of his laziness and slowly, slowly grab and control the whole country, and kick him out of India for good!! What a price of trust he had to pay??
and the people suffered as a result. He might be a good poet but a lousy protector of his subjects. When he wasn't writing poetry he was shagging the women in his harem - had at least 80 kids.
Itna dard aur kiske awaz mein hain? Kya kahoo? Aasoo a gaya. He is the all time best playback singer and will remain.

This famous ghazal of Bahadur Shah Zafar has been beautifully sung
Feel very sad for him. He was caught in the wind about which he was not aware. The British, who once prayed to Moghuls for lease of land in Kolkata, treated him so badly when he was taken a prisoner. They even left no trace where he was buried!
Read history to know how his sons were mercilessly killed by British, how they looted Delhi and how thousands of Indians were hanged by British just as a pleasure to avenge the rebellion. And who helped the British? Indians!
The people who gave their lives didn't die laughing. We were lucky to be born after this tragedy.

Muhammad Rafi has incomparable and outstanding qualities like sweeter than honey, crystal clear, highly pure and unique voice, cleansed pronunciation like shiny pearl, exceeding to limits talent which presents uncounted actions at the same time with great skills looks like computerized machine, the potential to touch the heights of sky in Alaap and expressions of emotions and much more, on the top of it the domination of spiritual strength due to his devoid of hypocrisy great character, his soft and tender heart and his good and righteous soul.
thanks for writing as I had not heard such wonderful couplets of the golden ghazal. Urdu language has such sweetness as one can get diabeties by sheer listening .
The best Ghzal by Bahadur shah and the best rendering by Rafi sahab...not to mention from the same film "na kisi ki ankh ka noor hun, na kisi k dil ka qarar hun....love these a lot..thanks to the legend Muhammad Raffi for presenting these! He'll always live in his admirer's hearts!

bahadur shah zaffar was deported to Rangoon MIyanmar where he took last breath in wait to returning to india. a sad demise on ubknown land.
I think these shayris were composed by zafar during exile in Rangoon. ..... esp describing pain being away from Delhi & his family

This Ghazal or poem was written by last Mughal Emperor of Hindustan or India, Bahadur Shah Zafar, when he was exiled byBritish to Rangoon, Burma.
Bahadur Shah Zafar( Zafar was his pen name) wrote this ghazal when he realized that his death is near and that after his death he wont be able to get few yards of land for his grave in his own country,Hindustan.
In short the emperor is longing to die in his own homeland so that he may be buried in his own country. Great feeling for his country, is

amazing. i've heard this ghazal so many times since i found out about it last yr.
and it's so infinitely sad....particularly because it's only today that i found out that his remains are still in Burma :( we never brought it back to India when he fought for this country and loved it to death.

that being the cruel barbaric imperialist whose single purpose was to exploit the wealth and resources of its colonies.
not even its king was allowed 2 yards for burial.
we should not be wallowing in pity but being angry at the perpetrators and cogniscent of the western imperialism which continues still albeit in many other forms. i.e. language, culture and finance.
unless we break this mould we will always be their slaves.
i was heartened by at least one commentator who suggested the whole of the sub continentshould unite.
this will scare the shit out of the western powers.
remember how they subjugated us.

It is out of question to say or comment on Bhahadur Shah Zafar,Zauq, Meer Taquie Meer , Ghalib & other Urdu's ustaad poets during the time of Bahadur Shah Zafar.When Bahadur Shah Zafar was in British custody he wrote a stanza of ghazal which is very touching " Bada bad naseeb hay Zafar dafan ke liye, Do guz zameen bhi naseeb na huyie ku ye yaar ko.
