Srimat Bholananda Giri, an Indian high-level saint With sharp intellect and spiritual power, was born in 1832 AD in a village of Punjab. His parents are Mr. Brahmadas and Smt. Nandadevi respectively. His Guru was - Sivakala Mahayogi Golapgiri. He was named Sri Bholadas after his birth. As a student, he was full talent with sharp intelligence but he had no interest in traditional primary studies. Since his childhood, the feeling of dispassion arose in his mind. He left home and accepted sannyas as soon as he entered his youth. Then his guru named him Sri Narayan Giri. He left everything and took shelter in Guruji`s Asram. He surrendered wholeheartedly to the Guru. By serving and worship he attains the Guru's grace. He spent 12 long years in meditation, study of scriptures and serving for Guru. He worshiped Shakti in the village of Pastana in Kurkshetra, in various unknown places, in the Himalayas, in the Haridwar Ashram. He left the Ashram on the Guru's instructions and went to the Himalayas for meditation. Bholananda Giri traveled from the Himalayas to Tibet, Oceania, Siberia and India. As a result of his continuous austerity, he acquired spiritual powers as well as various spiritual sensations. As a result of meditative intensity, body intelligence becomes almost extinct. It is known that at that time he got a special ecstasy by seeing Haraparvati.it means Lord shiva and goddes gauri. He once fell ill seriously during Meditation in the Himalayas. Then a man of mountain locality nursed him. This man became his first disciple. Later he established an ashram for the study and practice of scriptures at Taltarabagh in Haridwar which came to be known as Bholagiri Ashram. Once Prabhupada Vijayakrishna Goswami met Bholananda Giri at Purnakumbha Mela in Prayag. Bholananda Giri loved Vijaykrishna very much and addressed him as "Mere Ashutosh"it means “My Asutosh” , Lord Shiva`s another name is Ashutosh, which means he can be pleased easily and made happy quickly. So people find it easier to pray to Shiva and obtain a number of boons. Shiva means 'auspicious one'..
Vijayakrishna knew Bholananda Giri in the form of Shiva. Bholananda Giri once freed the son of disciple Amarnath, a resident of Sunamganj in Srihatta present sylet , from an incurable disease. Another time he miraculously saved a Bengali disciple from a tiger in the jungle.
One day Bholananda Giri got a dream from Shiva and dug the ground at one end of the ashram. As a result of the digging, the Shiv Linga came up. He established that Shivlinga in Ashram.
