Great guide for a great unit! I personally play mine with their veterancy at 2/3 on both health nodes for max buff reduction. I think it is more effective for the team to be able to cycle between both buffs and almost always have one up during the fight, provided that there is at least 1 or 2 decent squads receiving the buff. This can however be harder with badly organized team or without communication and slightly less useful on solo actions than using either line. I did not pick the 2 seconds that I could get on Triple strike, as I it not enough to be relevant for me. I don't think I ever needed it precisely in that 2 seconds windows while I always need more health.
Yeah you are absolutely right. I haven't tried any mixed lines but I've heard they are viable. I really like both the Shieldmaiden lines, one of the best designed vet lines I've seen so far in the game.
Finally seeing more ppl that are exploiting the maidens potential, we have been using them all season 7 as a house, and I must say, maidens are one of the best TW units in the game. One little advice, try to play the hybrid veterancy line for TW and cycle buffs, it is purely insane, permanent def/att buff :) have a nice day.
Finally someone understanding and displaying the flexible nature of this unit. I was defending the potential of this unit while everyone was crying they were shit and worse than Stalwards and Paladins.
Stals and Pallys will always be easier to use, so more people will vouch for them. Only players with exquisite taste and ability will realize the true potential of the Maidens ;)
Really amazing guide & I think it's the best unit guide I have ever seen for any unit ever, anyone who play CB for me own it to himself to subscribe to your channel in order to inform himself properly from the amazing unit guides you are doing that have so much detail & so much information that they'll never find anywhere else. What I especially liked & appreciated in your guide was that you had playing examples about both top & bot vet line, I was planning to go bot line (Sword&Shield specialized/more aggressive playstyle) & after watching your guide I'm now even more convinced that this was the right choice for me, this is what I like, it suit perfectly my playstyle, so thx again for your guide it was really very helpful & very informative.
@@IroncladLion Your channel and info is absolute top. Thank you for the content! I am doing great with maidens BTW. Around 100-140 almost every game.THANKS TO U!
@@IroncladLion it is i have them all but i dont use heal i use damage dealt to units braketrough doctrine instead and rest is epic. 3 spear doctrines guardian debufd and braketrough. I luv ur Story telling and humor. That combined with ur tech. Prowess makes you one of the top 3 creators! Question: Do you take ur Units into Seige before their leveled, or do u run Rebel Camps till Unit is maxed? Great work Bro!!
Sorry it took so long for me to see your comment! I do try and level the unit as much as possible before hitting sieges with them. Once I get a unit to level 15 or higher, then I take them into PvP. Hope that helps!
And when we needed him most during the shieldmaidens buff, he vanished. Lol. Shieldmaidens are confusing the hell out of me right now since their buff. This video still helps tho
They got a buff? That's awesome. Did they change the abilities significantly or are they just stronger? And I hope this video still helps even though time has passed!
@@IroncladLion no it does. They buffed the shieldmaidens twice believe it or not. The first one was still kinda similar to how you remember them except they fucked up triple strike. There was an idea behind the way it worked but after some more complaining from us, they buffed em again and honestly you might just wanna read it cause oh boy it's a lot. They buffed multiple units not just them. They are still as complex to use maybe even more
There is now hidden mechanic. While maidens are actively fighting, swapping weapons triggers additional effect. Swapping to swords triggers two quick strikes, while swapping to shields makes the maidens heal. For that effect to trigger the maidens have to land attack on the enemy.
does defences mean armor or block or both? I found contradictional Info 28:55 I find the charge difficult to use, because the the collision/dmg animation does not lign up with with the blue charge lines. Some namkhans one the sides didn't take damage, but the the maidens touched them, theoretical. I often push to hard with my maidens and find myself surrounded^^ I have seen a lot of it in the guide from critical69, but its way more pleasent listening to your calm and structured guides.
Thanks my friend! Defenses refers to armor, not block. If something boosts block, it'll say it specifically. The Guardian buff for example does not boost blocking in any way, it just raises each armor stat by 250. The charge has to connect head on, glancing blows won't trigger damage as you can see in that section. That's why it's better used when the enemy is clustered. And generally speaking, you should stay with you team and not push alone with the Maidens. I've also tried it, and it's usually how I get them killed. Best of luck out there!
In my experience, the Grey Hair is a much better unit for a lot less leadership. I can see their use as a buff bot in TW, but in siege play, the old men are a much better choice.
Greyhairs are an excellent standalone unit for sure. Really nice for a solo player, but they don't shine as much in a coordinated team like the Maidens do. Both great units! :D
It's not as bad as it seems! I'd say they are 4/5 star difficulty, not as hard as Sons of Fenrir to use! You can always practice in the training yard for a bit to get comfortable :D
Just to add to what you say to the beginning, the community disliked the unit in the beginning because it was bugged and bad. After a ton of buffs and bugfixes (like the ability to block when fighting melee to name one of the most important), they are indeed one of the best T5 in the game.
They have always had the ability to block while fighting in melee though? Also, what "ton of buffs"? I mentioned in the video that things like cover commander & stand firm were improved, but I don't remember them ever getting major buffs. I do agree though, they are an excellent T5 unit! :D
The Guardian Doctrine is part of the Season 7 story missions which you can no longer acquire. I didn't realize how that system worked before otherwise I would have included it in the video. To put it simply, the Guardian Doctrine can no longer be acquired. While I think it's incredibly dumb and doctrines shouldn't be exclusive to seasons, I don't make the calls around here. To replace that Doctrine, any of the EPIC spear doctrines are great. You can put BOTH the Epic 1 and Epic 2 doctrine on for lots of block!
You are not wrong haha. But if you notice at the start of that clip, I only had 22 maidens going into that fight who were already badly wounded. So I did in fact lose only two maidens in that clip. Good spot though! (29:34)
It's certainly not a 'I win' sort of unit. Shieldmaidens work best when paired with friendly units to get the most out of them with their buffs. They are not a 'standalone unit' like the greyhairs. Always treat them as a guardian / support unit. They can go on the offensive, but only when the opportunity arises. Best of luck!
Absolutely legendary guide, glad to see the maidens getting the love they deserve

You got a good taste for units only bummer is that in regular sieges you lose 2 of their kits in 1 battle....
I feel you there. I love the Maidens, but man they are expensive to use now that it's not Season 7 anymore.

I appreciate the kind words, I really do. I'm currently working on several videos for Starsector, which I've been enjoying a lot recently! 😄

The Shieldmaiden unique doctrines come from completing the unit challenges! I think the Guardian doctrine is from the 2nd or 3rd stage.
