It's called the three fund portfolio and it's the most effective way to build wealth in the stock market WITHOUT any extra work or stress required.

Hey Jay great video. Simple and straight to the point. I agree 100% all you need is a simple strategy to live comfortably. I myself have the three fund strategy plus SCHD in a Roth for my age and where I’m at in live, which is about 7 years minimum and 10 maximum for retirement. Your videos and suggestions open my eyes to go simple. Thanks and keep up the great work for 2023👍🏾

Thanks Ken! I thought after the craziness of the past couple years and all the uncertainty right now we could use a reminder that there's no reason to over complicate things

I have vanguard 4 funds. All you have but my 4th is an international bond ETF. How come you don't hold that one?

    • @JayFairbrother

I don't hold a lot of bonds and just stick with BND for now. We'll see what the future holds when I need to increase my bond holdings

Awesome strategy, but for this decade a new trend has finally developed after a 14 year US out performance run: international is beating US. I would recommend flipping your international and US allocations. International = 65%, US = 35%

I’m not sold that international will outperform just yet, but nothing wrong with going heavier on the non-us stocks if that’s what you beiieve

I don’t understand how do you get profit of this. Can somebody explain this to me?
So VTI is performs well, but
VXUS(+18% in 5 years) and BND(+0.35% in 5 years) in crisis for the last 2 years. (Starting December 2021).
You’re making money on dividends or what? But okay dividends, that you reinvest in the same low profit etfs? I mean I bonds can do better than VXUS and BND. Or you hope, that things will go well eventually?

Really like your approach, you, and your sense of humor! I'm transferring my 403b from an actively managed account with an advisor to a self directed account with Vanguard through my employer and plan on trying this 2 or 3 fund strategy. Is it still worth buying bonds right now? They have done so poorly recently.

Thanks for the kind words, I really appreciate that! Depending on your age I do think its important to have bonds as a part of your portfolio. How much is up to you of course. I wouldn't worry too much about their recent performance, you'll see that flip as interest rates fall & bond funds are still holding these high interest rate bonds being issues currently. I have a video on why they've been performing poorly if you're interested in more info

Was your M1 portfolio a retirement account or just a standard individual account? I never heard you say aside from mentioning your 401K on Fidelity. Trying to figure out if the 6500 cap a year is worth it or investing more with just an individual account..

My M1 account is just a standard individual account. But I do have a Roth IRA at another broker that I’ve had longer than M1 has even been around. Def worth it to invest in one for most people IMO
