Those conditions are absolutely crazy, even losing sight fully at times. Massive respect to the drivers for being able to keep going in the sand in lower speed and keeping control of the car.
Kalle looks about as relaxed as I do when I take my road car to go shopping. These gravel events were his rivals' opportunity to catch up with him... instead, he extended his lead in every event. Better start polishing that champion's trophy
Sure, but I was looking at those bulldozed/cleared trees that were just piled next to the road. Looks like somebody went with bulldozer and that's it :) But, it is what it is. Definetely test of the quality of drivers and cars and that is why we love Safari.
while, until almost 20 years ago, the onboard view included the pilot and his action, now we only see a road, most of times: please, may I know why? what would it be, to watch a football or tennis or basket i.e. match, seeing only the ball ? 🙃
@@thomasvleminckx One thing is certain: this view allows one to better see the road's little and big details, and by showing just enough of the car one can nicely see how sideways it is, and how it's moving over the road. It helped me so much to improve my driving in the simulator, for example, specially since I started playing it with this same camera position. One thing wrong in this video is the FOV, since it makes straight-line speed look slow and left-right movements can look bigger than they actually are.
Crappy route selection for this rally that saw stages cancelled due to dust storms. A safety issue. Even Dakar selects their routes better. And some stages were reruns of earlier stages. There are much better roads in Kenya where this event can be run. Just avoid Naivasha which is a silt basin.
@@s22t Yes and that car broke down after ingesting dust. Taking you back into history, and if you are old enough you will remember the 2002 Safari was one of the "crappiest" (courtesy Marcus Gronholm). Multiple retirements and two cars getting stuck in dust not on the road but at the service park. Remember Richard Burns trying to dig his car out of the moonscape? Thankfully the Safari was scrapped thereafter. Looks like the organizers have extremely short memories.

Welcome to Kenya 🇰🇪.. feel at home 🏠.
What a performance... such natural talent !

It's good to see these conditions again. This new cars being placed on that terrain. Reminds rally Dakar or the previous Safaris.
King Kalle at it again 💪
Perfecto, rally mas duros se necesitan !!
That soft road looks like it was made this year and just for this rally
Note that it's a road inside a reservoir existing over 60+yrs

A very good question. Maybe space inside the cars is more limited these days compared to the old days? Just speculating.

Please place the camera on the middle of the car..this view is weird

Pretty sure there was only one stage cancelled and that was because of a broken car in the middle of the road.

looks absolutely awful to drive.
You'd better own KAMAZ for this rally...
