It is still very new here indeed the law wont even go into effect for almost 90 days but I am excited to watch it progress and document the process. :)
I am not an investor and don't want to make any suggestions as some people I see about investing in crypto BUT, it is easy to see how much money you can lose if you don't know what you're doing. Kudos to this couple who did this exercise for us. I would not but bitcoins unless they give clear rules how this process works!

My three little monsters and I are going to El Salvador next month without my husband (the Spanish speaker….. it’s cool it’s cool I’m probably going to be fine) and since we got the news about Bitcoin he was ready to load up a wallet with Bitcoin so I didn’t have to carry much cash… now we know it’s not had a chance to fully roll out… THANKS SO MUCH!!!
You gotta get in touch with Strike to set up a lightning wallet. Think of lightning network wallets as a debit card and on-chain like an armored truck delivery. Strike is interoperable with the dollar, so merchants don't have to worry about volatility or how many zeroes come after the period or on-chain transaction fees.
As she said this is the very beginning of something huge. So never trust 100% on apps, first verify by yourself because there re many many scammers around the corner that want to take ur money. Once you understand Bitcoin everything is much simple. Saludos desde Chile!
Yeah, until volatility goes down and LN is more prevalent, most people don't have a reason to use it for spending. It's important to have payments as an option though, just so that it can mature in the meantime.

No need to use ATMs. If you have an internet connection, you can purchase Bitcoin on an exchange or an App like Cash App. Then transfer to a wallet like Strike or just use the Cash App wallet.
Thank you yes electronic transfers seem to be the most economical when possible. Cash App is still not available in El Salvador at this time but you can do a direct Bank transfer through to strike or use another Lightning wallet to transfer to Strike. We are playing around with Strike right now and can't wait for part 2.

You don't actually pay with Bitcoin for small purchases, it's too expensive. Think of Bitcoin like "digital gold" and you need to convert some of it to "digital cash" for day to day spending and that is the Lightning Network which is virtually free.

They are just like 'turbo' bitcoin, and in the future people will only use bitcoins on the lightning network, never going back to the bottom layer unless they really really have to. (Because that's when you pay the on-chain transaction fee.)

There are other ATMs that charge less comisions like 1 dólar, that one in El Tunco is like an independent ATM, it doesn't below to any cryptocoins company, hopefully when the government brings more they will set up a cheaper charges

Agree, people need a bank account to avoid atm fees. Bank accounts charge you fees if you do not their minimum saving quota. If you do not meet the minimum quota, the bank charges you penalties ( fees again). People in El Salvador need the “ remesas” for daily living expenses. Bitcoin is a catch 22 dilema. It is great for investors though. Buy cheap, let the poor people of El Salvador increase the value,then sell and profit. Capitalism taking advantage of the defenseless. Oooh and thank you for all your videos. Left El Salvador more than 40 years ago and you provide me so much great information as I am in the process of deciding where to retire. So cool to see!! I think ATMs are practical with people that want to convert large sums of money ($200+) into bitcoin inside a wallet that has Lightning technology available. Great video. I will defenitly watch the Bitcoin development in El Salvador. You need to know why so many people love Bitcoin. There is a limited amount of Bitcoin. There will never exist more than 21 million Bitcoin. The Bitcoin network is decentralized, so no government in the world can controll it or just print more money and devalue the currency. The miners, who are distributed all over the world, secure the network and are making the transaction. The main network is secure but it's slow and has high fees. Thats why you use second layer like the lightning network and strike for smaller transactions. But its still early and a lot of work needs to be done. You also need to know that 1 Bitcoin is 100 million Satoshis worth. Satoshi Nakamoto is the creator of Bitcoin but no one knows his real name. You can be proud that El Salvador is the first country to accept Bitcoin as a currency. This will go in the history books😁.

El zonte was much sketchier than the first beach. Dang I really hope all this works, the ATM was pretty bad in terms of fees honestly. I feel like this was a bad experience. I have a decent amount of money in Bitcoin and this was very discouraging.
I wouldn't be discouraged. This is all soooo new in fact the law doesn't go into place for almost 90 more days. These ATMs have been here since before the bitcoin announcement and we were eager to try them out and see what is available now and document the progress in El Salvador as it happens. Next time we will skip the ATMs and do an electronic transfer I predict more and more if not all places will be accepting bitcoin payment soon as well. This is new but we will all get there together.

Was just there April 21st to May 6. There’s an atm with low fees pennies right downtown at 7 eleven. By the monument of the divine. McDonald’s accepts Bitcoin right beside the divine monument. Santa Ana has ATMs and a few people explaining it right on site. Keep going and you’ll become much more excited as you discover the power of Bitcoin to take over the failing banking system.
Yes Glibert many things have changed since this video 😁 this was filmed before the law even went into effect. Many locations now accept bitcoin all over the country, and for those who don't there are chivo atms everywhere 😁 it has become very user friendly if you choose to use bitcoin. I am not an investor and don't want to make any suggestions as some people I see about investing in crypto BUT, it is easy to see how much money you can lose if you don't know what you're doing. Kudos to this couple who did this exercise for us. I would not but bitcoins unless they give clear rules how this process works!

You gotta get in touch with Strike to set up a lightning wallet. Think of lightning network wallets as a debit card and on-chain like an armored truck delivery. Strike is interoperable with the dollar, so merchants don't have to worry about volatility or how many zeroes come after the period or on-chain transaction fees.

Yeah, until volatility goes down and LN is more prevalent, most people don't have a reason to use it for spending.
It's important to have payments as an option though, just so that it can mature in the meantime.

el problema que tuvieron es que no encotraron a alguien en el salvador que hablara ingles para explicarles sobre el bitcoin, en el cajero del zonte se puede cambiar dolares por bitcoin y la comisión que cobra ese cajero es de $0.99 a diferencia del cajero en el tunco que cobra $5 de comicion por combertir dolares a bitcoin, cuando se instalen los mas de 1500 cajeros a nivel nacional esa comision bajara significativamente, la billetera virtual oficial que se utilizara sera principal mente "Strike" se puede descargar en la play store.

No need to use ATMs. If you have an internet connection, you can purchase Bitcoin on an exchange or an App like Cash App. Then transfer to a wallet like Strike or just use the Cash App wallet.
Thank you yes electronic transfers seem to be the most economical when possible. Cash App is still not available in El Salvador at this time but you can do a direct Bank transfer through to strike or use another Lightning wallet to transfer to Strike. We are playing around with Strike right now and can't wait for part 2.

I really wanted to see how you actually pay using bitcoin, when you purchase a drink or food, etc.
You don't actually pay with Bitcoin for small purchases, it's too expensive. Think of Bitcoin like "digital gold" and you need to convert some of it to "digital cash" for day to day spending and that is the Lightning Network which is virtually free.
@@jrodriguez9602 Bitcoins on the lightning network _ARE_ bitcoin. They are just like 'turbo' bitcoin, and in the future people will only use bitcoins on the lightning network, never going back to the bottom layer unless they really really have to. (Because that's when you pay the on-chain transaction fee.)

There are other ATMs that charge less comisions like 1 dólar, that one in El Tunco is like an independent ATM, it doesn't below to any cryptocoins company, hopefully when the government brings more they will set up a cheaper charges

Agree, people need a bank account to avoid atm fees. Bank accounts charge you fees if you do not their minimum saving quota. If you do not meet the minimum quota, the bank charges you penalties ( fees again). People in El Salvador need the “ remesas” for daily living expenses. Bitcoin is a catch 22 dilema. It is great for investors though. Buy cheap, let the poor people of El Salvador increase the value,then sell and profit. Capitalism taking advantage of the defenseless. Oooh and thank you for all your videos. Left El Salvador more than 40 years ago and you provide me so much great information as I am in the process of deciding where to retire. My home country was not on the loop until I started to watch your videos. Either way I decide thank you for sharing your experiences with your beautiful family.

So cool to see!! I think ATMs are practical with people that want to convert large sums of money ($200+) into bitcoin inside a wallet that has Lightning technology available. So, ATM->$250->0.005 bitcoin ($240) inside a bitcoin-lightning wallet seems a good strategy to use when in El Salvador in this early days!

Great video. I will defenitly watch the Bitcoin development in El Salvador. You need to know why so many people love Bitcoin. There is a limited amount of Bitcoin. There will never exist more than 21 million Bitcoin. The Bitcoin network is decentralized, so no government in the world can controll it or just print more money and devalue the currency. The miners, who are distributed all over the world, secure the network and are making the transaction. The main network is secure but it's slow and has high fees. Thats why you use second layer like the lightning network and strike for smaller transactions. But its still early and a lot of work needs to be done. You also need to know that 1 Bitcoin is 100 million Satoshis worth. Satoshi Nakamoto is the creator of Bitcoin but no one knows his real name. You can be proud that El Salvador is the first country to accept Bitcoin as a currency. This will go in the history books😁.

El zonte was much sketchier than the first beach. Dang I really hope all this works, the ATM was pretty bad in terms of fees honestly. I feel like this was a bad experience. I have a decent amount of money in Bitcoin and this was very discouraging.
I wouldn't be discouraged. This is all soooo new in fact the law doesn't go into place for almost 90 more days. These ATMs have been here since before the bitcoin announcement and we were eager to try them out and see what is available now and document the progress in El Salvador as it happens. Next time we will skip the ATMs and do an electronic transfer I predict more and more if not all places will be accepting bitcoin payment soon as well. This is new but we will all get there together.

Was just there April 21st to May 6. There’s an atm with low fees pennies right downtown at 7 eleven. By the monument of the divine. McDonald’s accepts Bitcoin right beside the divine monument. Santa Ana has ATMs and a few people explaining it right on site. Keep going and you’ll become much more excited as you discover the power of Bitcoin to take over the failing banking system.
Yes Glibert many things have changed since this video 😁 this was filmed before the law even went into effect. Many locations now accept bitcoin all over the country, and for those who don't there are chivo atms everywhere 😁 it has become very user friendly if you choose to use bitcoin. I really hope you enjoyed your vacation.
Also point that like when we start to use the dólar in those times was difficult confusing hard for many people and at the end we learned how to use it propely.Same way will be with Bitcoin is not something to concern about we going to get use to it until time pass by you will see and hoping this bring more prosperity for our people specially the poorest and entired country fingers cross and goverment is right and this can be a success but teaching people very Well about
