My husky is the same. "Leave it" is one of his best commands. I've given him food but forgotten to give him permission to eat it and come back two hours later, and he's still waiting for permission. I can leave my own meal within his reach, take a shower, and come back, and it's untouched. Patience and consistency are the keys. Huskies are extremely intelligent, learn quickly, but only obey people they respect... and they set a high bar to earn that privilege.
