Virgin Spring is one of the film's I love most.
This is so sweet and charming to see: the girl who was blonde in the film is brunette and the girl who was brunette in the film is blonde. I have not felt I could watch Virgin Spring again in the 45 years since I saw it as my first foreign film. The rape scene was so animalistic and traumatic. I am a male and I’ve never been comfortable with such scenes. But with Birgitta telling how she was good friends with the male actors and the story of chivalry concerning one, perhaps I can revisit this important classic film now. Maybe.
