I am 34 years old and you have no idea how much your videos have given me the courage to pursue my dreams that I have too cowardly to pursue. Best of all, I am making a lot of progress. So, thank you all the way from Taiwan.
You bring up great points to and against college. As someone with a masters degree, employers value experience so much more. Just jump into the industry if you can in any way. College was a great overall experience for me. But, was it worth it? I'm 26, graduated with a masters at 24, been unemployed for several years because I'm overqualified for retail/service jobs and underqualified for just about everything else. I'm now pursuing writing and entrepreneurship full time due to sheer lack of options. Will my marketing and digital media degrees help me get where I want to go eventually? Probably. Is it needed? Debatable. But was college "worth it", I can't answer that.
I also moved to another cauntry at 18 and decided to not go to college (even tho all my friends went). These kind of videos give me hope and remind me that I am not the only one who decided to go against the typical path of "go to college so you can be successful", instead follow our goals Great video mel
Mel, you are such a courageous and risk taking person. You've taken so many big decision in life and mostly when people do this, they start regretting and thinking that they shouldn't have left their comfort zone, but you dealt with all the challenges and obstacles with such level of understanding and embraced them. You are a huge inspiration for me. I've never seen anyone of your age to be so influential and efficient and so passionate for their work and life. Kudos to you, Mel
I graduated from high school last year May 2021 and I also decided to take a gap year but ultimately decided not to go to college (for now, maybe later when I feel like going). So far I like my full time job (no degree needed) and I make a fair living ($600-$900 checks a week) so I am pretty fine with life. You make me feel better about not going. I am alright with the flow of life and living day by day. I’m less anxious than I was in school. I make small goals and that keep me motivated and busy (mostly about the gym). I face the same challenges you do but slowly overcoming/accepting them ❤ I am content with my mundane life :)
well, i don't know why do westerns people have such time frame for going to collage, here in asia .. people complete their high school when they are 19, 0r 20 or 21.. then they start collage.. without giving a single thought to their age number
Hi girly, its abi! Next semester im going into community college but honestly, i cant see myself going to a UC or doing four years of community. I want to find something im passionate about or explore different skills outside of college. Personally i feel like it’ll just be a waste of my time, money and mental health if i complete the four years, doing it just to do it. Im glad you found ur passions and living ur life without going through the hassle of college :) as long as ur happy thats all that matters 😌
Wow. I wish I had this much confidence at 18. I didn’t have much guidance throughout high school, and although my parents put no expectations on me, they still made me feel like college was the only path after high school. I briefly considered taking a gap year to figure myself out, but told nobody because nobody asked what I wanted to do. I went to college reluctantly. And here I am, almost graduated and regretting it. I’m less of a pushover than I was fresh out of high school, and if I could go back in time, I’d tell past me to take the gap year. Although I’ve gained some useful skills in college, overall it wasn’t want I expected it to be, especially because of the pandemic. I want to write, and I could’ve done everything I want to do without a degree. At this point, I’m just trying to get Cs so I can get out of here and into actual adulthood.
Honestly it's really insightful to hear some of your thoughts on your journey and you make a lot of great points. It's good that you're not just sugar coating it for us but seem very honest with what you're saying. And admittedly, you kind of help inspire me. I've been kinda lost since I graduated high school, and just hearing you talk about your projects and your direction in life helps me start thinking about putting my own things in order. Which is much easier said than done, but nonetheless. These insight videos are really interesting to watch!
Loved the video ! Could totally relate to a lot of what you said. With the risks and decisions you made, I'm 100% you'll be rewarded very soon ! Can't wait to see you get those 50k btw hahah !
I think it was the right decision for you. It's so cool that you are trying things for your trilogy. I like this path and I know it would be hard and there's outside pressure. I wanted to ask how you were able to sell your books on Amazon and receive other services before you were 18. It seems like it's hard to do anything before 18. Love your books and vids!
Hello Mel great video showing both the pros and cons on going to collge I was wondering if you would do a video on how you edit your videos i would love to know becuse they are always amazing quality :)
I'm 18 now and next year i'll have the chance to join college or start a life of an adult and i'm confused what decision to make for myself.Thank you for this video,so I can reconsider my decision.
If you live in India you should probably just attend college before pursuing something unconventional because there is already a huge pool of qualified people in the job market that even a bachelor's degree ceases to suffice as a qualifier. Couple this with the reality of STEM universities being absolute jerks about admitting anyone over 22 or so. I could go on but there's the gist of what I wanted to share.
Oh! One more thing! Americans have the safety net of taking up blue collar work if faced with some adversity or by choice and still make enough to have a car, roof over their heads and put food on the table while raising a family albeit on a shoestring budget. Similar jobs pay scraps in India and are looked down upon
Random irrelevant question, do u regularly use swear words and profanity in ur books? I'm not just talking abt Capsule. I mean Leaving Whishville, Belladonna, and Memory Mindfield too (this is free for anyone who's read the books to answer bc Mel probably wont see my comment)
Hey, I'm here! If you're worried about profanity or other sensitive content in my books, you can always check the Lost Island Press website. Just click a book and navigate to the "Warnings" tab. My stories are either marked "minimal profanity" (Leaving Wishville, Memory Minefield, Maelin) or "mild profanity" (Capsule, Nightshade Academy). Some books I've published are marked "moderate" because the frequency of profanity is higher, but currently, none of the books I've written myself are. Hope this helps! Don't put your insecurities on someone else. You don't know the future and neither does she 🤷♀️ anything could happen ten years down the line but what matters is that she's happy rn, nothing is more important than that. If a meteor hits the world today it wouldn't matter who's a college graduate or not. We all will die but at least she'll die happily
Not everyone can go to college. We're free to do whatever we want and going where we want to go. So it's fine

What do you mean regret? You can always go to college later. It's not some once off never again opportunity.
Just like with school; RUclips burnout is a problem especially with highly edited vudeos

I read capsule and I don’t remember any sweat words, but it was a long time ago so there might be a bit but it’s definitely not a bad kind of book
