Poison Ivy Identification and How to ID Poison Ivy
Poison Ivy, Poison-ivy - Toxicodendron rydbergii formerly Rhus radicans
Poison ivy is a poisonous plant that contains a volatile oil, urushiol, on its skin that can cause severe allergic reactions upon contact with skin. It has shin leaves in groups of three, and sometimes people use the rhyme, "Leaves of three, let it be," to help to ID poison ivy. Poison-ivy is a vine or shrub that grows along the ground often forming patches. The three shiny leaflets of poison ivy can have toothed or smooth edges. Burning poison ivy and breathing in the smoke can cause the poison to be released into the smoke, and if the smoke is inhaled, it can cause an allergic response. Watch out for poison ivy!
