    Their tragedy is so mythical, almost like Apollo and Hyacinthus in that the love of Apollo (Shinji), Hyacinthus (Kaworu) died horribly from another's heartbreak and selfishness. But more tragically, it wasn't a third-party but Shinji himself who let Kaworu die out of his selfish nature

      I see it more as kaworu dying out his own selfless nature for shinji

      Shinji was not "selfish"; he did what he had to do, and both parties knew it, though he did not want it to be so.

      @@lordjay7530 I see it as Kaworu dying for Shinji out of Kaworu's own selfish nature. Misato made a definitive point in that regard.

      @@rinzaigigen2640 Not rly. He was wallowing so Kaworu had to take Shinjis burden out of love. Shinji was selfish by not accepting his burden, looking for escapes
