The frog q&a had me reliving my secret shame! When I was 6 I secretly brought home a frog. I wasn’t allowed to have a pet and I LOVED that frog I named Beau with my WHOLE heart! I told Beau all my problems that first night, I set him up in my doll house, got him some drowned flies from our pool and put a little perfume on him to make him smell nice. I was heartbroken the next morning when I found him dead on his little bed. Hearing you talk about all the things they need I now know 6 year old me straight up murdered the poor little guy. I’m so sorry little Beau, I should have left you where I found you! You deserved so much better.

Goats have rectangular pupils because it helps them keep an eye on the horizon, sort of like panoramic sight, so they can see all threats around them. What's weirder is that when they lower or raise their head, their eyes rotate in their sockets so that the rectangle stays horizontal to maintain that line of sight.

I love Coco and Clay so much, they're prehistoric Japanese statues! Coco is a haniwa 埴輪 from the Kofun era (like the gyroids) and Clay is a dogū 土偶 from the Jōmon era. My grandmother lives in an area where a lot of haniwa are unearthed, I've had a fascination with them since childhood they're super cool if you want to look them up... Dogū have frog eyes, they might freak you out less than haniwa, but I think both are super cute 😍

re: the docs that can't be assed. They LOOOOOOVE to tell young women their pain isn't that important, that you just gotta stretch, that it ain't that bad. And no joke on average takes 5 yrs from onset of symptoms to diagnosis & even then treatment isn't a given. You should checkout pain management. You might have to go back to ur PCP depending on the clinic's rules but I really think they're gonna know what's up. They usually have different. docs for different issues and at the very least can get you on a treatment protocol that will make PT or w/e worthwhile. It's not perfect but I think that's the best opt. rn. I love ur vids they really made my day bearable.

There was also this salamander that was drying out and dying and my sister thought it was going into hibernation so she covered it with leaves. She told me about it and showed it to me. I saw that it was dried out, so I picked it up and put it under some flowing water and it slowly started to become more lively. I released it at a small pound/wet area

the school story really illustrates an underdiscussed part of finding a job - a lot of the time, its less about education than it is about networking. knowing the right people, being social, volunteering, making connections. its rough out there for an introvert without a job network.

I think all of those things are applicable to most career fields -- I went to school for creative writing, and my passion is for national/state parks and conservation, so I'm working on finding places to volunteer because that really is how you get in. If you have a passion for something, it shows in your pursuits, and therefore your resumé. THAT is what will get you in the field you want.

Scoliosis veteran here. I had the upper part of my spine fused like 12 years ago. You’re right, basically nothing exists to cope with upper back pain. Scoliosis pain is so different to other kinds of pain, you don’t know it until you feel it. Chiropractors are bad for scoliosis, they will do more damage. go to an osteopath, the pain you get is from your muscles struggling around your spine as it shifts. An osteopath will massage you the right way. You can buy a back brace on Amazon, look up ITA MED. it’s designed the same as my actual post surgery brace. It pulls your shoulders back and supports your spine. The corrected posture helps with long term back pain ( but braces also hurt) Disregard pretty much any coping advice from anyone with other types of back pain, it’s not the same as scoliosis. Take magnesium salt baths, it helps with the pain. The inflammation in your muscles and it also helps you sleep (I lose a lot of sleep due to the discomfort)
Hi Amanda first I wanna say I love your videos. Also hearing you talk about your story about going to the hospital reminded me on my story. I have ibs and one day the pain in my stomach was so bad I thought I had a appendicitis and had to go to hospital. (At the time I had no medical insurance whatsoever) They took a catscan and all. It ended up just be irritation in my stomach from the ibs acting up so badly. And that was all. Long story short I’m in medical dept and never wish I went to the hospital 🙃

Your mama is one brave lady. Much respect for her! 👏 43:31 I am no doctor but that sounds a bit like what my mother has. She had been in pain for a week or two and would just hurt most of the time time she tried to turn over or even just stand or walk. So we went to the doctor and it turned out she had a pinched nerve caused by arthritis in her back. Apparently the nerve getting pinch was why she had pain shooting down her legs and back or something, but thankfully they did give her some medication and a shot, which seems to be working at least partially. I don’t know if it’s arthritis for your case but I would definitely recommend seeing a specialist, especially if it continues. Sorry if none of this helps but I hope you get better.

Thank you for sharing your scoliosis story. If you have a good primary care doctor, he or she will help work with any other doctors you see. Specialists will frequently refer you back to primary care even for medication. My pc doc prescribed a non-narcotic patch (prescription) that has made a big difference - the brand name is Flector - but i use the generic. Find a good primary and then have them refer you to orthopedic. I always ask my doctor... who would you take your wife/daughter/sister too. Love your videos.

I truly understand exactly what you're going through with health insurance and doctors in general. Even with insurance there are few doctors and no dentists near me that accept it. It's not great insurance but it's all I can afford. I have a couple of bad teeth that are killing me. I mean literally killing me, I've been sick for months and I can't find anyone that cares. I'm genuinely terrified of what could happen if I can't get this taken care of.
I've had scoliosis back pain for 30 years or so and doctors still haven't done much for it. The surgeon who did my unrelated lower back surgery said he doesn't do that kind because it's "too gory."
I would recommend seeing an orthopedic surgeon for your scoliosis. Even if you don't need surgery, they'll know how to treat it. I had scoliosis pretty bad and had surgery for it at age 11. I'm 23 now and experience very minimal pain. Wishing you the best!!
Like one person said, I work in the Healthcare system. Its unfortunately really common for doctors to sorta ignore comments about back pain because there's only so much they can do what with the back being a very... "sensitive"? topic within the human body. See your pcp who will then point you to a specialist. The reason you go to physical therapy first to see if you can correct the pain "naturally" is because insurance makes it a requirement before doing any other testing. The next step if it isn't working is to then get imaging done to see how extensive the damage is as well as where they need to go to give you something like cortisone shots to help the pain go away, but cortisone shots don't always work for everyone and imaging itself is extremely expensive sometimes (I'm an MRI tech and MRIs are the best imaging but can EASILY cost over $1,000). Doctors often don't listen to younger people regarding back pain because it IS very common for young people to overexaggerate for pain meds or to have a reason to have medicinal Marijuana. Marijuana can help but doctors still have a stigma against it. Sometimes they can do a discectomy to scrape at discs pinging in on nerves but there's not much that can be done about back pain aside from stretching, shots, pain medication or surgery. You have to research and explore the best options, because doctors know its a long battle to deal with back pain where insurance companies have inserted themselves for profit, unfortunately. But INSIST to your doctors ALWAYS to look at your back especially now that you have x-rays. And make sure you consider surgery as a last option because they can correct certain discs but then the discs around the corrected ones can go bad, too.

The corrected posture helps with long term back pain ( but braces also hurt) Disregard pretty much any coping advice from anyone with other types of back pain, it’s not the same as scoliosis. Take magnesium salt baths, it helps with the pain. The inflammation in your muscles and it also helps you sleep (I lose a lot of sleep due to the discomfort)

Hi Amanda first I wanna say I love your videos. Also hearing you talk about your story about going to the hospital reminded me on my story. I have ibs and one day the pain in my stomach was so bad I thought I had a appendicitis and had to go to hospital. (At the time I had no medical insurance whatsoever) They took a catscan and all. It ended up just be irritation in my stomach from the ibs acting up so badly. And that was all. Long story short I’m in medical dept and never wish I went to the hospital 🙃

43:31 I am no doctor but that sounds a bit like what my mother has. She had been in pain for a week or two and would just hurt most of the time time she tried to turn over or even just stand or walk. So we went to the doctor and it turned out she had a pinched nerve caused by arthritis in her back.
Apparently the nerve getting pinch was why she had pain shooting down her legs and back or something, but thankfully they did give her some medication and a shot, which seems to be working at least partially.
I don’t know if it’s arthritis for your case but I would definitely recommend seeing a specialist, especially if it continues. Sorry if none of this helps but I hope you get better.

LOL your story about your mom fighting the buck almost made me spit out my frosted flakes. 😂 This apparently happened to my mom before I was born too. They have rectangle pupils because it gives them a wider field of vision to avoid predators. Also, I think fainting goats are just another thing humans were like- yeah let’s have more of that because why not. I’m 100% a chicken fan though. I love my friendly, fluffy, derpy mini T-Rexs who live for treats and huggies. 🥰

Thank you for sharing your scoliosis story. If you have a good primary care doctor, he or she will help work with any other doctors you see. Specialists will frequently refer you back to primary care even for medication. My pc doc prescribed a non-narcotic patch (prescription) that has made a big difference - the brand name is Flector - but i use the generic. Find a good primary and then have them refer you to orthopedic. I always ask my doctor... who would you take your wife/daughter/sister too. Love your videos.

I truly understand exactly what you're going through with health insurance and doctors in general. Even with insurance there are few doctors and no dentists near me that accept it. It's not great insurance but it's all I can afford. I have a couple of bad teeth that are killing me. I mean literally killing me, I've been sick for months and I can't find anyone that cares. I'm genuinely terrified of what could happen if I can't get this taken care of.
I've had scoliosis back pain for 30 years or so and doctors still haven't done much for it. The surgeon who did my unrelated lower back surgery said he doesn't do that kind because it's "too gory."

I would recommend seeing an orthopedic surgeon for your scoliosis. Even if you don't need surgery, they'll know how to treat it. I had scoliosis pretty bad and had surgery for it at age 11. I'm 23 now and experience very minimal pain. Wishing you the best!!
Like one person said, I work in the Healthcare system. Its unfortunately really common for doctors to sorta ignore comments about back pain because there's only so much they can do what with the back being a very... "sensitive"? topic within the human body.
See your pcp who will then point you to a specialist. The reason you go to physical therapy first to see if you can correct the pain "naturally" is because insurance makes it a requirement before doing any other testing. The next step if it isn't working is to then get imaging done to see how extensive the damage is as well as where they need to go to give you something like cortisone shots to help the pain go away, but cortisone shots don't always work for everyone and imaging itself is extremely expensive sometimes (I'm an MRI tech and MRIs are the best imaging but can EASILY cost over $1,000). Doctors often don't listen to younger people regarding back pain because it IS very common for young people to overexaggerate for pain meds or to have a reason to have medicinal Marijuana. Marijuana can help but doctors still have a stigma against it. Sometimes they can do a discectomy to scrape at discs pinging in on nerves but there's not much that can be done about back pain aside from stretching, shots, pain medication or surgery. You have to research and explore the best options, because doctors know its a long battle to deal with back pain where insurance companies have inserted themselves for profit, unfortunately. But INSIST to your doctors ALWAYS to look at your back especially now that you have x-rays.
And make sure you consider surgery as a last option because they can correct certain discs but then the discs around the corrected ones can go bad, too.
