I always thought that Kabuto didn't think highly enough of Itachi's intelligence. That's always a huge mistake. Dude was a true genius. Itachi was always playing 5D Chess before most other characters even realized the game had started. Everything he did was carefully orchestrated well in advance. He was the ultimate tactician.
Itachi is probably the only other character that would/could Rival Shikamaru in terms of pure outright intelligence/mental horsepower. However (at this point in the story) Itachi was a bit older, had more experience, and thus was probably the better planner of the 2 of them.

He grew to Kage level, which in itself is an incredibly deep well of power, and he could compete with some of the best of them because of his brilliance. We can list Kage he could flat out overpower, and we can list some he could outthink. In Naruto, Kakashi repeatedly reminds us that the mind is power as well. Honestly, that's why even he's such a beast. What he couldn't do with speed, strength, chakra, he made up for with skill and raw intellect. Itachi was like the Batman of Naruto. He could do anything with prep time.
Itachi Uchiha was a prodigy and the most talented gifted Uchiha, it's so sad we couldn't see his full potential in the Series because If Itachi had a perfect mangenkyo Sharingan not even Madara would have had a chance.

Unfortunately no that still goes to Madara. Especially with several of the techniques Madara had up his sleeve. Madara was able to break reanimation control purely with the correct hand signs, whereas Itachi never could have done that. Had Itachi not met Naruto in this situation he'd still be controlled by Kabuto without any way to stop it. Itachi got quite lucky he was sent after Naruto, and that he implanted the crow in Naruto and set it to activate on sight of Itachis Sharingan, which he knew Sasuke would eventually take. Itachi's plan worked in a roundabout away, but without this specific instance occurring, he'd never have broken Kabutos hold on him the way Madara did.

Well to be fair, how many people who aren't Uchiha (even then many didnt know) that Izunami/izunagi (can't remember which on) was even an ability that could be used or even existed. To be honest, Kabuto underestimated Itachi because without that 1 specific genjutsu, Itachi had *no* way to properly beat Kabuto at that time or have him end the reanimation Jutsu. Without Izunagi/Izunami, Kabuto was basically unbeatable to all but someone like 10 tales Madara, and when you are that durable at the time, you will get cocky and underestimate the opponent.
Not exactly for this reason he said that he put the crow so that if Naruto encounters sasuke then through kotoamatsukami sasuke will come in the right path and become good
for clarification this wasnt itachi being smart, it was itachi being lucky. he planted the qrow with koto to react to his eyes because he expected sasuke to take his eyes after he died, and in the case that happened, in his next encounter with naruto the crow would come out and hit him with koto to make him "protect the leaf village." he did NOT know that he was gonna be reanimated and encounter naruto
it's not just luck, he knows in Naruto the last bastion of defense of the village, and he knew that whoever wanted to destroy the village, exploiting his sharingan and therefore his strength, would have to face Naruto... he believed it would be Sasuke, but it was Kabuto.. it doesn't change much, he had a plan because his corpse, or his eyes, couldn't have been used against the village.

Itachi,naruto and nagato was wild for all of us to see, the respect that each have for each other is of the highest lvl.
I always thought that Kabuto didn't think highly enough of Itachi's intelligence. That's always a huge mistake. Dude was a true genius. Itachi was always playing 5D Chess before most other characters even realized the game had started. Everything he did was carefully orchestrated well in advance. He was the ultimate tactician.
Itachi is probably the only other character that would/could Rival Shikamaru in terms of pure outright intelligence/mental horsepower.
However (at this point in the story) Itachi was a bit older, had more experience, and thus was probably the better planner of the 2 of them.
@JackTheripper911 Agreed. Too many people focus too much on his power and skill, and that makes them forget that he was a true triple threat. He grew to Kage level, which in itself is an incredibly deep well of power, and he could compete with some of the best of them because of his brilliance. We can list Kage he could flat out overpower, and we can list some he could outthink. In Naruto, Kakashi repeatedly reminds us that the mind is power as well. Honestly, that's why even he's such a beast. What he couldn't do with speed, strength, chakra, he made up for with skill and raw intellect. Itachi was like the Batman of Naruto. He could do anything with prep time.
Itachi Uchiha was a prodigy and the most talented gifted Uchiha, it's so sad we couldn't see his full potential in the Series because If Itachi had a perfect mangenkyo Sharingan not even Madara would have had a chance.

Unfortunately no that still goes to Madara. Especially with several of the techniques Madara had up his sleeve.
Madara was able to break reanimation control purely with the correct hand signs, whereas Itachi never could have done that. Had Itachi not met Naruto in this situation he'd still be controlled by Kabuto without any way to stop it. Itachi got quite lucky he was sent after Naruto, and that he implanted the crow in Naruto and set it to activate on sight of Itachis Sharingan, which he knew Sasuke would eventually take.
Itachi's plan worked in a roundabout away, but without this specific instance occurring, he'd never have broken Kabutos hold on him the way Madara did.

Just because the audience knows something that happens within the series, doesn't mean *everyone* within the show automatically knows.
If 2 people fight and no one sees it, how would anyone else know at all? Sure the 2 fighters (if both lived the fight) might mention they fought someone, but unless they go into detail how the fight played out, the other characters wouldn't know.

Well to be fair, how many people who aren't Uchiha (even then many didnt know) that Izunami/izunagi (can't remember which on) was even an ability that could be used or even existed.
To be honest, Kabuto underestimated Itachi because without that 1 specific genjutsu, Itachi had *no* way to properly beat Kabuto at that time or have him end the reanimation Jutsu.
Without Izunagi/Izunami, Kabuto was basically unbeatable to all but someone like 10 tales Madara, and when you are that durable at the time, you will get cocky and underestimate the opponent.

for clarification this wasnt itachi being smart, it was itachi being lucky. he planted the qrow with koto to react to his eyes because he expected sasuke to take his eyes after he died, and in the case that happened, in his next encounter with naruto the crow would come out and hit him with koto to make him "protect the leaf village." he did NOT know that he was gonna be reanimated and encounter naruto

it's not just luck, he knows in Naruto the last bastion of defense of the village, and he knew that whoever wanted to destroy the village, exploiting his sharingan and therefore his strength, would have to face Naruto... he believed it would be Sasuke, but it was Kabuto.. it doesn't change much, he had a plan because his corpse, or his eyes, couldn't have been used against the village.

itachi didnt undo the jutsu. the crow cast a genjutsu on him that made him protect the leaf village. so even though the jutsu still had control over him, the genjutsu had an even stronger control over him
