1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 LS6
1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429

1969 Pontiac GTO Judge
Utilizing the same tires, same brake pads, and same conditions, who will reign supreme? Peter Klutt and Tom Hnatiw ignite over 3000 horsepower in a series of 0-60 and 1/4 mile acceleration, 60-0 braking, fastest slalom and longest burnout, the FASTEST MUSCLE CAR OF ALL TIME will be crowned!
1. 1969 AMC AMX 390 Go Package
The AMC AMX is a two-seat GT-style muscle car produced by American Motors Corporation from 1968 through 1970. As one of just two American-built two-seaters, the AMX was in direct competition with the one-inch (2.5 cm) longer wheelbase Chevrolet Corvette, for substantially less money. The Go Pack on the 1969 AMC AMX included the 390 cu in (6.4 L) high-output four-barrel V8 engine with a dual exhaust system and chromed exhaust tips, heavy-duty cooling system, power front disc brakes, uprated suspension for improved handling, "Twin-Grip" limited-slip differential, wide-tread red striped tires mounted on five-spoke "Magnum 500" wheels, and over-the-top racing stripes.
2. 1970 Buick GS 455 Stage 1
The Gran Sport 400 was replaced for 1970 with the Buick 455 cu in (7.5 L) V8 engine, used in the GS 455. The base model was rated at 350 bhp (355 PS; 261 kW) and 510 lb⋅ft (691 N⋅m; 71 kg⋅m) at 2800 rpm of torque. In the optional Stage 1 trim equipped with a single 4-barrel Rochester Quadrajet carburetor was rated at 360 bhp (365 PS; 268 kW) SAE gross at 4600 rpm and 510 lb⋅ft (691 N⋅m; 71 kg⋅m) of torque at 2800 rpm.
3. 1970 Dodge Hemi Challenger
Challenger R/T, with a 426 cu in (7.0 L) Hemi rated at 425 hp (431 PS; 317 kW) at 5,000 rpm and 490 lb⋅ft (664 N⋅m) of torque at 4,000 rpm. The standard transmission was a 3-speed manual. The R/T was available in either the hardtop or convertible. The Challenger R/T came with a Rallye instrument cluster that included a 150 mph (240 km/h) speedometer, an 8,000 rpm tachometer and an oil pressure gauge.
4. 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6
The SS 454 included the 360-hp, LS5 454, heavy-duty suspension, SS wheels, power front disc brakes, dual exhausts with chrome tips, wheel arch moldings, blacked-out grilles and the SS rear bumper treatment. The LS6's iron block was outfitted with four-bolt main caps for added strength. Inside, forged-aluminum pistons and forged-steel connecting rods swung from a forged-steel crankshaft. The LS6 used solid lifters and an aggressive cam with .520 lift and 316 degrees duration.
5. 1969 Mustang Boss 429
Only offered for two years, the Mustang BOSS 429 was advertised at 375 bhp (380 PS; 280 kW) at 5200 rpm and 450 lb⋅ft (610 N⋅m) of torque at 3400 rpm. The speed equipment manufacturer Crane Cams tested engines that were stock as manufactured, with the exception of substituting tubular headers for the stock cast iron exhaust manifolds. For the 1969 hydraulic cam engine, they measured a peak of 352.0 bhp (262 kW) at 5500 rpm. The 1970 mechanical cam engine measured better, with a peak of 366.5 bhp (273 kW), also at 5500 rpm.
6. 1969 Hurst Oldsmobile
Following the success of Hurst components in Oldsmobile's 442 models, Oldsmobile, in collaboration with Hurst Performance, produced special-edition performance versions of the 442 or Cutlass Supreme, the Hurst/Olds. The 455 cubic-inch Rocket V8 (W46) was rated at 380 horsepower (280 kW) and 500 lb/ft of torque. The engine received a unique intake manifold, chrome steel valve covers, and a special vacuum operated air cleaner lid to allow cold air from the hood scoop into the carburetor. This was backed up by a specially calibrated code OH Turbo 400 transmission and 3.42 gears for non-A/C cars or 3.08 gears for cars with A/C. Optional 3.91 gears were available only for non-A/C cars.
7. 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge
The 1969 GTO Judge engine was the Pontiac 400-cid/366-hp Ram Air III V-8. It came linked to a three-speed manual transmission with a floor-mounted Hurst T-handle shifter and a 3.55:1 rear axle. The more powerful 400-cid/370-hp Ram Air IV engine was installed in 759 cars in the same two lines and 59 of these cars were convertibles. The Judge option was added to 6,725 GTO two-door hardtops and only 108 GTO ragtops.

You have this test wrong . You should’ve done pony cars. Then Duke em out then midsize Duke out because a mid size will lose 75% time to the lighter car
The right car one nobody can deny that.... There was a reason they call it the boss
Something wrong with the motor on the AMX it is not that low in a 0-60 run. I won't blame the driver because i think higher of him than that. But either way if you wanted the best AMC from 70 you should've used " The Machine " with the service performance package. Those cars wouldn't keep up. Anyone in the 70's knew if one of those showed up to the track they could just put their cars on the trailer because The Machine was a runner. Low 10's
The avg quart mile time on the amx Iis. 14.2-14.5...
92-96. Mph
@@FrankStein1 with drag slicks and some minor carb adjustments
The best muscle car is the one you own, care for and love. Chevy, Ford, Pontiac whatever, they're all cool.
They are all special& winners!.
Very true, except for mustangs
Exactly,as long as it's a Mopar
@Kris Salts not sure why you think a 2016 should even be mentioned in a thread like this. I own a 69 Camaro the real deal not some new remake. I have zero respect for these new cars and their owners. You go buy something while I have spent years restoring and building mine. If you are looking for something else to add go buy a classic put the work into it and you will have something to be proud of
Im a slut i love them all lol
Have 1971 GS
A Boss 429 would be my pick, I don't care about who is the fastest. I want a car that looks good and sounds great and for me it's a Boss.
The 1969 Mustang Sport-roof is by far the best looking Muscle Car ever designed.
I'd take one with any engine.
i like my 68 mustang cobra 428 cj with dual quads all factory
@Steve Miller I totally agree with you, so many cars from the mid '60s to about 1971 are IMO classics in form and function. I Can't deny how great a Cuda or Camaro look. The '68 Fastback Mustang, 390/4-Speed, who wouldn't want to feel like Steve McQueen driving around.
Still though, the 1969 Mustang Styling somehow captures what I think is the epitome of the era.
I'd like to add that growing up (I'm 60 years old) my older cousin had a 1981 BOSS 351, OMG that was a Spaceship/Cool car.
@@melissaweidman3326 Sweet, an early CJ in a 1968 Mustang, how wonderful.
For me in a muscle car, I want something you don’t see as much, is more rare and unique, but could still blow the doors off other muscle cars. That’s why the Buick is my top pick and has been for years
Those were the days when cars didn't look like every other car !!! When cars looked HOT and BEAUTIFUL !!
It's no fun getting older but I feel very fortunate I grew up at a time where cars like these were all over the place. Heck my dad raised me in a 68 GTO daily driver and our only family car. Gave it to me as my first car and I have been a muscle car nut as long as I remember. I would take and enjoy any one of them in a heartbeat.
In my town muscle cars all carried a legendary status through the years. People still talk about Billy's chevelle, remember Mike's mustang? That thing was built!! and on and on. 30-50 years later they are iconic and a part of community history. I love car culture.
yeah baby ford all the way
Boss Mustang is just straight up bad ass looking wish i owned one
Same for the challenger
Sexiest mustang there is. 67 GT500 is a close second for me.
Right on man!
We owned a pair of 1970 Boss 302 Mustangs when we got married !!
Bangin thru the gears with that Hurst T-handle shifter is the best fun we ever had with clothes on!!
@@GarlicKnot567 fastback is a strong contender as well
Whoa the buick outhandled the amx! That was insane. I love the GS 455 even more now lol
Gotta hand it to Buick they really got it right with the 70 GS. I still dream about an Apollo white GSX S1.

YEA FORD BABY!!!! FTW and is without a doubt the Best looking one out of all of them. Awesome comparison guys loved it!
Whats really interesting to me is that the Boss 429 was significantly detuned for the street in production cars. Some sources claim over 135 hp and 75 ft lbs worth of detuning for the street. I wonder what it would be capable in a mustang if not detuned . I imagine it would of suffered some significant drivability issues on the street but I bet it would have been a mean SOB on the highway .
It was at least 200 horses. Street Boss was about 420 ponys and the race boss had about 620 per Robert Yates. It had different heads(no hemi combustion chambers like the race engine), different cam, small carb and an exhaust that choked down the output too
Yea but that is not what they are referring to,it's cars you could walk up and buy everyday, most of these cars could be ordered with a performance package!
Being a Ford guy, the Boss' were extremely nose heavy and the Boss 302 was a much more pleasant car to drive.
They are all awesome cars but I like the Pontiac judge GTO
I was 16 in 1969 and wouldn't have it any other way , I rode in and owned several muscle cars including a hemi cuda but the one that really stood out was the GTO judge , it seemed so fast back then ! The other was a Ford Couger with a 427 side oiler , you could buy any of these killer cars used for $2-3 thousand ! I love em all !
You lived the dream
69 was the year I was born and I got me a 72 GTO when I was 16 GTO is my favorite car then it still is today I give anything's on my original car back
I agree love them all Friend same one 67 mustang GTA 390
Mercury cougar 68 gte
I pretty much love all muscle cars! Make, model etc! However....a 1970 Buick GSX Stage 2 has my 🖤🖤🖤🖤!!!!!
Wish we could have seen a test on a Buick GS455 Stage 2
I wonder how the AMC Javelin with the 401 would have done. Otherwise pretty impressive to see that 390 chirping tires through all the gears. AMC deserves more love.
The AMC Javelin did win the Trans Am race in 1970 driven by Mark Donahue 2nd place was a Plymouth Cuda driven by Swede Savage 3rd place was a Dodge Challenger driven by Sam Posey 4th place was a Camaro driven by Jim Hall 5th place was a Mustang driven by Parnelli Jones 6th place was a Camaro driven by Milt Minter
I agree. I owned one!
1969 Hurst/Olds was always my favorite!!!!!
I almost expected as much from the mustang. Too bad they didn’t have a boss 02 to see how interesting the two mustangs would be.
My big disappointment was the a MX. Short light and nimble. I expected much better
My big surprise was the other heavyweights the Buick the GTO etc. Thanks. Great video.
So did I, since I owned one.
A 440 six pack Cuda with 727 automatic is a better street car than a 426 Hemi Challenger 4 speed with a slipping clutch◇¿.😎🎱☮🔊🖖👍
Street race yes drag race no
This was totally biased against Mopar
Right, totally biased lol
Boss 429 but they all sweet
Where's the 428 SCJ Mustang 429SCJ Torino
Yeah, the 428SCJ 1969 Mustang held or still holds the record for the Class under NHRA rules back in the day.
Next up from LMC we need the "Super" Muscle Car Shoutout!
Exactly, in 2006 there was a 3 minute video , but never seen the full footage been looking for it for 15 years

GS Stage 1 better, and more of a sleeper
Thank you! This was a double trip down memory lane (watching these beasts run and remembering Dream Car Garage). The results are the results. Sure, a different day, a different example of the same car, different results. And I’m going to say it - we all miss Tom. Thanks for sharing and keeping the flame alive.
Awesome episode! Long live the classic muscle cars!
This was very fun to watch! I loved it! I believe yrs ago I actually read this very article in a magazine. But to get to watch it & listen to you guys comment & horse around was the best! And I am very shocked! I am a ford guy. I love all muscle cars & trucks but my blood is blue. My experience with alot of performance engines has come In the form of 4x4 trucks though. Mud trucks! So I have alot of hands on with 429/460 engines & FE 390/410 engines & I can say first hand both those engine designs are truly legendary & capable of being at the top of any competition. But these, super hero engines like the boss 429 I know about from basicly bench racers & like you guys mentioned magazine articles. As a 14yr old kid that dousnt really know why a engine is great but just believes he dous becouse of the legendary statis. Over the yrs the more "inside" info I got on the boss 429 I started to get my dreams squashed by all negative gossip. And I have kinda believed it. I have been told the boss 429 was great at doing what it's soul purpose was, Nascar! It's was a screemer out on the roundy round. But in street trim it fell flat on its face. Choked out with small carbs & undersized cam & heavy internals they have made me believe the 429 boss mustang was a collectable. But to go fast it was more of a Zero than a Hero. Now at 44yrs old & much more educated on the inside of a engine I have realized alot of the garbage that was fed to me was from guys that have never even stood beside one or listen to one run let alone drive or work on one. The garbage was fed to them & if there daddy's said chevys were the best then if someone served them a plate of bullshit that said fords are slow on top they slop it up with a big shit eatin grin! Im happy to see the ford do so well in amongst such legendary statis. I am interested to see how a 428 scj could have faired in this group.
Well said
Great Show keep them coming
RIP Tom
Hey geniuses, Drum brakes adjust when brakes are applied when backing up
I find it interesting that the only PONY car in the test wins. Wonder why a Camaro wasn't used also?
The Challenger is also a pony car.
What I find interesting is that they didn't throw a new clutch in it before this test. Hopefully they did before selling it.
I used to be a GM guy all the way but, as I've gotten older, I like all of them.
Yeah skewed test. No Camaro? Come no ..
Very odd the camaro is not in the test
No nova
All beautiful cars! Be a treat to own any of them
You need an A12 Super Bee or Road Runner in this mix.
The only real answer to this question is...the one that YOU drive and enjoy. I don't care what brand or model it is, as long as the owner enjoys the car, that's what's most important.
I love my 1970 L34 Chevelle. My best friend loves his 1968 Dodge Charger with a 383. Both are 4 speed cars and we have a lot of fun playing around with them.
Just F.Y.I., the "burnout contest" doesn't impress me.
I think that real car people can appreciate other brands and the rest compares them. I'm a Ford guy, but what's not to love about Fuselage Mopars, Chevelles or a Rebel Machine!?! Or maybe it's an internet thing
You should have had a torque-flite behind the hemi in the Challanger! It would have got a lot better ET!
The Challenger was running under a handicap! It didn’t leave the factory with a bad clutch!
This was a great concept and made for an interesting shootout, But what would have made it truly awesome would be if it were an actual apples to apples comparison of the best offerings from each manufacturer. You really cant compare a 1969 ram air 3 Judge to a 1970 GS 455 or a 455 powered hurst Olds and call it a fair comparison. To make it a truly fair and epic shootout you would have to select all models from the same year, Say 1970 and choose cars with the top engine offerings that year. The GTO would get the RAIV, the Buick the stage 1 455, The chevelle the LS6 454, etc. and all the cars should have been similarly geared and with the same types of transmission, be it manual or auto. Then you could truly crown the "ultimate muscle car" I understand this was a long time ago and perhaps those cars were not available to them, I'm just saying someone should revisit this......
And you would've gotten the killer of them all: A 429CJ 701/2 FALCON.
I was thinking the same...
The RAIII is *not* the equal of the LS6, HEMI, etc.
The RAIV with a 4spd and maybe 3.90 rear WOULD be the actual apples to apples comparison.
Other than that...I live seeing these cars run, as I am the owner of a 1970 GTO Convertible, with a but of work done :)
Memory lane, I remember watching this quite a while back.
MY FAVORITE THE BOSS 9 BUT THERE ALL COOL AND BETTER LOOKING THAN THE BUBBLES PEOPLE DRIVE TODAY THE MUSCLE CAR ERA WAS AWESOME THANKS FOR THE VIDEO
The Hemi had the handicap of a bad clutch, it's sad it never had a chance. I'm also surprised at the performance the Boss displayed, which was great and different than period reports. I'm curious if it was truly stock.
The 440 six pack was much stronger as a street engine, than the hemi.....90% of the time, the owner could not set up the dual carbs, and the low speed torque from the hemi was just not there.
I was so disappointed watching it cause the 70 Challenger is my dream car, wish they would’ve replaced the clutch to give it a fair shot
To think the boss was geared for NASCAR not for drag racing. It's called the boss for a reason. So all you Mopar GM fans the BS stops here today. 😂
boss hemi ford 429
I saw this a long time ago. The HEMI Challenger, I believe was the wrong choice for this. It should have been a 440 4bbl or Six Pack.
I’m a fan of all these cars; although, I favor the BOSS 429. Despite my bias, I don’t think this test is fair due to the Challenger being hindered due to a worn clutch.
If the cars are to be “tested as they came from the factory”, shouldn’t the clutch been replaced before the shootout? Maybe they just didn’t have the time to replace the clutch. Great show, and an impressive lineup!
I agree that Hemi Challenger would have been the fastest in the quarter or at least top 2 just as if the 454 Chevelle if the automatic transmission was slipping it would’ve handicapped it as well
I'm jalousie of the man who got to test them all
Me and my father have a 1969 mustang coupe (not the fastback) and have been restoring it for years. One day it will be mine but I hope that day never Comes. It's a beautiful car and getting better looking every year.
1973 Pontiac Firebird Trans am 455 super duty
Awesome video. I watched this program every Saturday morning years ago. All the cars are beautiful but the Chevelle is my favorite. I loved Tom and miss him. God bless you.
Keep it coming guys, thanks so much. Loved seeing this awesome show again, hope you repost all the old good stuff. God Bless you guys and we miss Tom :(
This was a fun video and shootout. Even though I'm a AMC lover, the LS6 has always been my favorite. The BOSS429/302 are right up there as well
I personally love the buick gs it was a great all around car
455 was a Torque Monster and the GS HAD A GREAT BOD !! LOLOL AND I'M BASSICALLY A CHEVY MAN !! LOLOLOLHAHA
Buick GS455 will run faster threw a 1/4 mile then tested here
It's crazy how after the 80's / 90's these cars just went through the roof. I bought a 1966 Mustang GT with every factory option and aftermarket a/c by classic air for $3600 in great shape. I was looking at a 1967 GTO with a 421 I really liked along with the His/Her Hurst shifter (I wasn't allowed to have a manual for my first car by my father) and that was also around $3500-4000 in really good shape with a little rust by the rear 'flying buttresses', but my dad didn't think it would be a safe car for me as it was massaged quite a bit. Now both those cars would probably be north of $30-40k easy.
A 1966 Shelby Gt 350 H for me personally, to me it’s all about the body lines and stance of this particular car. But a close second would be a 1970 Boss Mustang, take your pick of the 302 or 429 powered cars
Thanks for rerunning this Peter, I remember watching this when it first aired -GREAT!
Miss Tom 😢
Yes I watched it when it aired, I am Mopar at heart but love all muscle cars , the Boss 429 performed well, all Boss Mustangs where all 4 speed , proper drivers car
I laugh when they talk about Buick being your Grandpa's car. Well I'm a Grandpa with a Buick. I drive a 1987 Modified Buick Grand National. I guess if my grandson gets into a battle, he could say, "I'll beat you in my Grandpa's old car" LOL
My favorite episode! Thanks
You guys killed it......and i loved your humor.
They are all cool rides
But the 69-70 Boss is the baddest looking of the bunch
Absolutely the most beautiful fun cars I've ever driven. We had 2 Boss 302 Mustangs when we got married. Thanks for the memories
So great to see Tom
Love this , I remember watching this when it was done originally. Wasn't there supposed to be a second installment with tuner cars (Yenko's etc).
There was one and I remember watching it on dream car garage I wish they would show that one too
Boss 429.
Why a "Pony car" in a Intermediate car competition? Where is the Gran Torino ? In your scenario you should have had a RAIV 1970 Trans Am... Winner in a few of your classes.
challenger was a pony car too ... gran torino didint existed in 70
If u listened, it’s what LMC had in stock at the time of the test
As far as looks go the 1969 Mustang Mach 1 is the best.It may not be the best performance car but it's my favorite.Just a beautiful car.
Incinerator of tire prize...429 Boss. No suprises!
Had a 69 AMX 500 Special. When drag racing, I had to start off in second gear because out of first, the tires would just spin. Surprised this guy didn't do the burnout in first.

Fun video, a little unfair comparison but I enjoyed it. I own a 69 GTO and 2 68 firebirds. Like them all.
When I was a teenager looking for cars, mustangs to be exact, I would peruse car traders and they were filled with GTO Judges by the tons for $3000 and less.
Gee imagine that. AMX Gets 1. point; when that that car dominated the track, Over the Mustang, Camaro and the Challenger/Cuda' for 3 or 4 years. M. Donahue and C. Breedlove. But You folks couldn't get it to go?
Thanks for being Completely predictable and sucking up to the big 3 fan boys. Lame ass pre-decided test. Typical.

It may not be the best, but that AMX... 😍
I love the Pontiac Judge, 69 or 70!
Where was the 401 AMX Jav at? You got a 390 AMX
1970 Ford Cobra with 429 scj, 4 sp/with drag pack.
Im 2ed owner of my 1971 GS. Owned it 46 years out lived my marrage by 11 years. I cant stop loving that car....
You do not know life untill you live in these old cars.
An excellent project and a great video as well as the correct era! Unfortunately, GM had 4 divisions covered you missed a couple more to complete the test. Plymouth’s Road Runner with the 6 pack for sure and how about Mercury? Anyways for those that you covered highly entertaining! Too bad about the bad clutch in the Challenger.
Miss tom alot..you guys had such chemisty..I have all those minus the amx, run in true street. Bucks eat lunch. My 70 ragtop auto with bias ply tires, all orig cars. I run 1311 108 with stock tires, 12.50 dragradials only. My boss 429 goes 12.98 on drag radials. But thts years of playin on street. I've had buick since 79, rest mid 80s. No one has touched them. Chevelle with 410 gear and auto runs 1319 at 114 mph . Chevy always more mph. I have many built bucks, one gsx. 500 hp but real num is 356 to rear wheels, it runs 1190 at 110. So no mph but quick. 1.72 60 ft time on drag radials. Tht car been run 300 times easy last 30 yrs. With ac.. so not slugs like some say. Yes my new suv and trx are quick. Muscle cars are cars you have to actually drive. Great job guys.
Would like to see a shootout show with the more exotic American Muscle car. Including the Superbird and Daytona Charger. And what other cars you think would go great with those Winged Wonders.
The awesome Talladega, 19701/2 , 429CJ Faclon, a bit rarer than the Superbird. Only 749 Talladegas made, less Falcons.
Cool video, but if you are really trying to crown the best ever, you are missing a ton of cars that should be on here. Hemi Cuda, 69 Trans Am, Camaro ZL1, Shelby Mustang GT500, etc.
# Jeff Jackson exactly so many legendary muscle cars were left off the list, and if a certain car had a problem why not fix it before testing it so they all have a equal chance at showing what they really are capable of.
When I saw this come up I thought this was a new video. This is ANCIENT.
What's your point? And what's the problem? Did you seriously have to take the time to bitch? The rest of us really enjoyed Dream Car Garage and APPRECIATE that Peter and his son are continuing to post brand new stuff and repost some of the original stuff the rest of us love seeing again.
Pete can drive !! Great job !! All very nice classic cars.
The Judge didn’t have the RAIIII motor. I think it would have performed better.
Sure seems like the driver is partial to the cars he likes,I think that anyone would be even if it is subconscious.
A cool test, although probably unrealistic, would be if they all had similar gearing, identical tires, and the same type of transmission.
Eliminate as many variables as possible.
Ford power 💪🦾💪🦿
I remember watching this on Speed when I was a kid and loved it! Pity that the Challenger’s clutch had issues, but otherwise it was a great showing of how well those cars would run. Thanks for uploading!
Love the Mustang. Always thought the others were for late 20’s early 30’s guys. 1969 Mustang Boss!
Boss 429 o ya
Serious props to the producers of the show for using actual unmodified muscle cars. Impossible to find those outside of museums and even very slight modern improvements can affect performance a lot and distort the results. My favorite of the era is Ford because at the time Ford was all over the world representing the U.S. in road, endurance, and rally racing. Even had their name on the dominant Formula 1 engine of the time. Stateside they did great in NASCAR and drags too but it seems like the complaint about Ford is their best production high performance cars were never built in the mass quantities Chevy and Mopar put out. For example I think there were about 4X as many LS6 Chevelles built than Boss 429's.
Ford guy here. You're so right. I've had a lot of the really rare Fords: Talladega, etc.
Yeah. A pony car vs mid size sedans. Gimme a break. Surprised these yo yo’s didn’t throw an AC Cobra in the mix which would have been the winner. The Chevelle won. Also for the time period, they never should have included cars with automatic transmissions. Lol. Then they have the nerve to say performance times back in the day were skewed.
Best bare bones stock muscle car. 1968 Roadrunner.
No Plymouth No Mercury
Where’s the Camaro, Charger, Cougar, and Firebird?
Glad you used a GS Stage 1! But a convertible?!🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ You used the GTO Judge. The Hurst/Olds 442! Why not the 70 GSX Stage 1?!🤷🏻♂️ It had more performance than the regular Stage 1! And definitely would have outperformed the convertible! Happy overall Buick took 3rd! Think it would have done better with a GSX Stage 1!😃👍
Unless to verify cam specs, compression, head porting/polishing, etc. your results in 0-60 or 1/4 mi. are just numbers, not proof. No way can you take a bunch of 50 year old cars and say, "they're all stock!" Unless you rebuilt every one all you have is old muscle cars that have been through many owners.
1968 1969 Z28 mighty mouse package 302 Zapper .. my choice ...Mopar would be a 1970 1971 Duster 340 wedge car.... Ford ... 1970 Mach1 351 Cleveland . Pontiac.. 1970 Trans Am .. Super Duty
Also, the Mustang was 8n the wrong class. It belonged with in the Camaro and TA class.
I don't think you guys gave the Challenger a fair shot. The slipping transmission destroyed its acceleration. Running right that Hemi would lay down a 12.8 quarter with ease. Kinda invalidates your whole comparison.
I seen this when it came out on TV. Peter Klutz I mean Klut was totally biased towards the mustang. I don't trust his review for nothing. I plan on doing a better version of this. He made the other cars look bad and tried to put mustang in the spotlight. Maybe he felt like they were the underdog. Either way, when a factory don't do their homework and bring it to the muscle car fight, then they best not enter the ring. Guys like Peter will try to polish a turd. One guy should not be allowed to review all the cars. He's very biased in this video. It was a total oversight. You just don't get one guy to drive all the cars. You will get a biased opinion. I hate that this video still exists giving new comers bad information. I demand a redo. But with different drivers for each car. Seriously, this can be done better. Don't try to fight me on this. The cars deserve more respect than one guy driving all of them. If you were buying a car, would you trust one guys opinion? That's what's happening here.
If you're gonna have a competition to determine the fastest Muscle cars of all, you need to have race the fastest of each manufacturer... and the fastest of all were the '68 Hemi Darts and Barracuda's, and the '62-'63 SD 421 Catalina's and Tempests!
I could be wrong but wasn't the 69 daytona and superbird the fastest?
@@stevenchisari9564 The '68 Hemi Barracuda's and Dart's went Iow 10's on the track, the SD 421 Cat's and Tempest's ran low - mid 11's.
@@stevenchisari9564 Actually those cars were not good in the 1/4 mile. Built strictly for NASCAR. And the street versions were nothing compared to the NASCAR spec ones. If they were doing three laps around Daytona, then hell yes. But still would have been a better option than that Hemi Challenger though..
My cousin's 1990 Mustang got into high 11s, that's with major transmission problems, beat all those cars. If he had the transmission sorted no telling how much better he would have did.
Your 1990 frdo musntga wasn't stock like the cars used in this test now was it? Yeah thought so.
I could've guess the mustang. Why was there no Camaro or Trans Am, kinda an uphill battle
Thats my thinking as well
They included the Mustang, and a Challenger, but no Camaro, Firebird, or Cuda.
