I met Sam J. Jones at a comic-con a few years ago. I was blown away by how friendly he was. I was a high schooler at the time, and he asked me about where I wanted to go to college. He also gave me advice and told me not to listen to all the noise and naysayers in the world. I just thought I was getting a quick picture and autograph. Sam J. Jones actually took time to talk with me. I'll never forget that. He's a good man.

first saw this when I was 14 with my family, and even then we all realized it was being played for laughs and was ridiculous and campy...and it's brilliant for being that. Everyone in it looks like they're having the best fun, and it reflects back to the audience. It had to find its niche between Star Wars, Star Trek, Alien, and Steven Spielberg's films, and to my mind chose exactly the right tone. the outrageous colour palette and costume/set design are as trippy and OTT as they were in 1980, and the whole thing holds up terrifically. Queen were the perfect composers (Oscar Nominated for this), being both campy, good humoured, and totally, epically Operatic, and clearly understanding the mission statement! Just listen to Freddie hit the highest of notes as Flash has to strip down before the Princess who just rescued him! I watch this once a year as a tribute to Queen/Freddie and Flash Gordon on December 1st, which is also International World AIDS Day.

The film is practically criticism-proof, because of the style it was made in. Technical flaws? They suit the whole spirit of the movie. Over the top production design, costumes and colours? They blend perfectly into the overall approach. Hokey elements? It's an updating of the 1930's Buster Crabbe serials. It is made with such good humour and sense of tongue-in-cheek fun that you just overlook any problems.

You'd be surprised how many Easter Eggs that programmers/game designers put in software. True Story: I used to work for the local Auto Club, and we had a software that could track the drivers, as the trucks had GPS, of course. Well, if you wanted to check a driver's true location, you could send a "Ping", like when you send a ping on a network. Well, when you would Ping a driver, a box would pop up saying "One ping, one ping only, has been sent........." First time I saw that, I actually laughed out loud at the "Hunt For Red October" reference........

I've heard that all the references and humor in the FF14 quests was added by the localization team; that the original Japanese quest text is pretty dry and not funny. You can kinda tell as the Main Quest line is full of 'serious' drama; all the humor is in side quests and tasks, which are often hilarious.

Absolutely no other band could have come up with such a memorable track... May's clever use of the synth/bass/drum pulsing beat was excellent and was made good use of in the movie...I think the whole movie was wonderfully scored!
The Kiss showed Freddie's higher register off pretty well...and the Battle Theme is a typical May rocker - it's what they entered the stage playing at the Milton Keynes gig!
