What a GREAT setup!!! Good for you. and all your buds followed you up. You are a regular pied piper! No "Live aboard" issues in your new digs? I'm also a divorced Dad with a daughter whom I love dearly. Your daughter wants your attention. She wants her Dad. There will never be a more loved or important man in her life. Good luck. It takes time.
you are indeed in a state of grace in my dreamy place in the inner harbour. Born in Victoria and now stranded in Vancouver I hope that you'll continue to appreciate and share. Cheers
One other thought.... Have you considered renting a garage /workshop that you could keep your vehicle parked in and also use as a shop by pulling it outside? Check out airplane hangers - large, good security, etc.
I first saw Victoria in 1973. Been back off and on for years. One of my favorite cities. Pubs, pubs, pubs and lots of awesome restaurants. I always dream of going back and visiting VIC. Good choice Peter.
I dream of you having a mundane Canadian lager as a beer of the week. Very enjoyable episode with your narrative about moving to new dockage and the issues it presents. Best to you, Lloyd and Lady Zepheris on your new tied up surroundings.
This is I mean is the best episode yet I loved it fantastic sooooo happy to see lady zephyrous there just fantastic live the life peter be happy be healthy and pod casting for sure
I think I'm most excited to see the superstructure's topsides replaced and brightwork done up... all the cosmetic stuff that has to take a back seat to the actual important things like the hull and making the boat livable.
WOOOWWWW you are living my dream. A pub: coffee shop ratio of 8:1 and a wall pack of bacon fries to go with a beer!!!! You had me worried bout Lady Z...so happy shes there with you. Cant wait for the galley series.
Hi Peter. You are living your dream. You have me dreaming of my trip to Victoria a few years ago. I walked around the marina area and drank at the pubs and coffee shops you pointed out in the video. I understand the attraction of spending winter moored in the centre of the beautiful city of Victoria. J.
Ps : ref working on your boat .Go to a costume rental shop buy a RCN Captains uniform steam over in Geordie to the dockyard at CFB Esquimalt and demand that the small boat section immediately repair your gig!
Looks like you found your dream spot for the winter. I am happy you, lady Zephrus and Lloyd are all in one place. Hopefully you three won't cause too much commotion.
I'm very pleased to see that Lady Zee is there with you. I had a 26 wooden fishing boat with a Ford 4D in her on rubber mounts and had the same problem, also it used to knock out the packing on the stern gland even though it was running a flexible coupling and everything was inline. I swapped to a solid mounted set up and the difference was amazing smooth running quieter and the only vibration I got at the harmonic revs around 700 to 800 was the teaspoon rattled slightly in my coffee cup. I now have a larger GRP hulled boat and that is also solid mounted with no problems at all.
GORGEOUS home port! Congratulations! A dream come true for sure! Just having a brew on deck at night with that cityscape view is going to be spectacular!
Congrats on the new location! An amazing spot to be! I have been there many times with our previous sailboat, but very excited to visit again with our new sailboat.
I started watching your channel because I am interested in wood working, especially on old wooden boats. I hope you’ll be able to continue those type of videos.
Life is good! So happy that your arrangements are panning out well. I definitely see the appeal of heading into the city for urban life, followed by a retreat to the sanctuary that is your boat. Moreover, if you really need to retreat, the sea is at your fingertips
I'm soooooo envious! As for bringing plywood to your boat, there's a public parking lot on the other side of the sea plane terminal. I was able to carry my dismantled sailing kayak/trimaran from the Causeway Marina up to my truck, which was parked up there. You might be able to park there to carry wood to your boat. You'd have to gauge how often you can do that without drawing attention.
For me, an old boat worker, the word "Dream" congers up memories of the famous Lake Union Dream Boat cabin cruisers from the late 1920's and early 1930's. I also did a complete refit on a 1927 Dream one winter. She's still floating! Love those boats. such classic lines.
Peter. That Victoria , BC location really appears to be a DREAM come true for you. If I understood the technology, I’d be sending you things. But after my second stroke, can can barely now turn on the iPad to watch your videos. And that’s ok. Travel safe and enjoy that mooring. Looks nice
It's been a dream watching the new episodes. Unfortunately, here in Louisiana, we were pounded on recently by Hurricane Ida. It made a great mess of things and knocked out power for 2 weeks and cable for four. Which means no internet. So I'm just getting back online and catching up on a lot of missed videos. I enjoyed catching up with your travels and adventures and hope to see more soon.
hello Peter I live in australia but my daughter lives in Cumberland on the island so naturally we have visited Canada many times and Victoria is one of my favorite places . When you panned around it bought back many great memories . Thankyou for that and thankyou for travels with Geordie. When this covid thing is over and we can travel again we are heading to Canada and when we do I will come knocking on your door Hope that will be ok (and I will bring some aussie beer ) cheers Phil
Great Stuff! I have known the water in the inner harbour to freeze 2 times in my 70 years.Takes an unusually cold winter. My dad worked on the CPR ferries and I grew up in James Bay. Enjoy your new location!CHEERS
My goodness sooooo happy for you both omg !!!!!!! Can't wait to kayak by and say hi to you both . Really do miss you already and its only been a couple of days . Take care the both of you and best wishes Talk soon
Dreams do come true, if you work hard enough. And you Peter, have busted your tail all year. Congrats on the new slip and we’re looking forward to the galley project coming together. Keep the videos coming!
I have a Kubota lawn/utility tractor with the same engine you have, and the engine is mounted on large, soft rubber mounts. Additionally, the drive-shaft has a rubber flex joint that dampens and isolates the power output. As a result, the tractor feels very smooth at all speeds. Perhaps you might follow Kubota's example and try some of their techniques. Love your programme!
I have found that to stop a lot of the vibration you can find an OLD TIRE. All you want is the side wall of the tire.. Cut pads that will fit between the motor mounts and your boat. When you clamp them down you will be surprised at just how much your problem is gone..
So happy the three of you lucked out and got those moorings. Congratulations. I agree with 86lowrider - an harmonic balancer may help a lot? Never mind - enjoy your new dis and settle in. Keep well
I'm hoping the dream doesn't become a nightmare living there in amongst the hustle and bustle of the city. I would be concerned with all the downsides, noise more grit and grime and more crime. But I am so pleased that both Lady Z and Lloyd are there with you. You will have a blast I am sure.
You can rent parking from the city for $160.00 a month, right beside you, 2 min walk. Its just beside the princess whales whale watching storefront on the causway. Includes the entire parking lot in front of the seaplane port. You go up to city hall where you pay parking tickets. They will give you a pass till the end of March.
Hi Peter. Regarding things like handling the plywood... There are suppliers or workshops (in the UK.. just thought.. shipping it would be beyond silly 🐱 ..) that will cut it to size for you.. and do shapes etc.. and thus transportation becomes easy... almost flat pack.. Your stern deck or fly bridge would be ok for making sawdust.. There's also the fact of powering something like your table saw etc.. which I assume is at least 1500 Watts induction.. so to start it you will need a generator of maybe 4500 Watts (you can get away with lower if you can spin it up first).. did you get a PTO on your engine for a generator? .. otherwise it's a big.. not very portable generator! I suppose a very big inverter is possible but square wave will possibly be an issue .. and batteries and alternators.. (I have 3 alternators).. Note staple guns don't work on 240v generators.. well not 300w on a 4kw.. ... and forget anything related to arc welding or a compressor.. though you could charge the compressor at the dock.. Welcome to off grid living.. I've lived without land mains for over 33 years.. and my mains tools are 750w (brushed) or lower and I have a 1kw 4 stroke (15yr old) and a smaller 2 stroke generator (there's a whole muddle of power factors to be aware of)... I have a few budget battery power tools.. and one day... Regarding engine vibration.. I installed my engine with 3 point rubber mounts.. which works.. exactly how it's done in a vehicle using the same rubber mounts for my 70hp 2.4 litre.. my boat is semi displacement.. and originally had a 100hp 3 litre petrol.. bow starts to lift at about 5 knots.. not officially sure of top speed 🐱.. Regards Bella and Mark.. Motor Yacht Sea Prince.
I actually preferred the old mooring because it was quiet and tucked away, it also allowed you to do a lot of work on the boat without having to move although I do realise that technically you weren't supposed to. For those of us that live in seaside cities Victoria doesn't have a lot to offer, in fact it's a fairly modern city by European standards but then again it's built to more modern standards which isn't a bad thing when it comes to getting around etc. Hope you enjoy your stay there !
90% of sound escapes through a 10% hole... Best conversion is three point mounting.....so you keep the front feet, delete the rear feet and add a 3rd mount under the gearbox on the shaft line...(similar to a cotton real type bush (a bit like a landrover series top shock mount)sooo smooth.....my Perkins runs this set up and its awesome. But to run this set up you do need a thrust bearing on the propshaft so the engine mounts do not take the prop thrust.
The marina is a beautiful dreamy spot in Victoria, until summer, when a Piper shows up on the causeway at 0730 and 1700 each day and starts blowing "Amazing Grace" on his bloody pipes. Sufficient reason in itself to leave during the Summer!
Peter, so happy for you. My wife and I visited Victoria last time we were out that way. Such a wonderful location! The inner harbour is so beautiful. I’m sure you’ll have an awesome winter!
I had a dream of buying an old wooden Monk boat, and it almost came to be… except when I went on the sea trial, the boat started taking on water and ended up sunk… it was almost a nightmare except I hadn’t written the cheque yet!
So glad your dream(s) are coming true; first your dream for a new motor and now for the perfect marina spot. Victoria is a beautiful city, maybe an episode with more details about downtown including "High Tea" at the Empress. One question, you mentioned earlier that you would acknowledge those of us who contributed to the engine purchase with our names mounted near the engine or somewhere. How is that project coming? Certainly a wintertime project, one that could be done on board in the marina without bothering neighbors? Thanks for allowing us all to dream along with you. Best Wishes
I am so thrilled for you! Let me tell you MY memories of that place: When I was a young-ish teenager, my family took a voyage on the very FIRST EVER "Princess" cruise ship--the Princess Italia--much smaller and cozier than these mega-mall-parkinglot-sized things they have now--and we actually tied up TO THE DOCK in front of the Legislature back then! Did the whole shebang--High Tea at the Empress (and hey, add to your expenses having to--no knock on your look now intended--upscale your wardrobe for the tonier downtown spots like that one especially! PLUS a bigger dining/drinking budget, but hey, that's mostly a GOOD thing! ) Butchart Gardens, etc. etc. etc. ANYHOW, I think the idea of renting a shop is a good idea--AND...if it comes with a parking place and isn't too far from the dock, it will reduce your parking expense in the bargain AND give you some semi-permanent included storage space too. I'm guessing you will time the next haulout to begin at the moment you have to leave there for tourist season, so that'll be good, too. All in all GREAT news! Congrats again! (OH, a last thought re harmonics and such? I wonder if all that grotty concrete you removed from the keel is part of the problem--the absence of it, I mean. Couldn't you use something neater and more portable in the way of weight--leads, sandbags, whatever--so that you could (a) see if that helps and (b) balance them by moving them around easily in the bilge to see what works best? NO idea if this would work but it came to mind as you were describing the problem.)
So wonderful to see you so happy living your dream, awesome. Regarding engine harmonics, I drive a landrover Discovery 2 and it has 2 large heavy discs of metal bolted underneath to combat engine harmonics. Might be worth checking it out, I'm sure you could pick one up from a scrapped vehicle and experiment bolting it to the Beta in various places. Cheers
Well for your workshop you could take a suite of rooms in the Empress ! They are used to eccentric Brits with weird hobbies plus free parking for all British vehicles I would think! This might be a bad dream!
Wow what a spot to call home eh . I remember walking along that area looking at all the boats . The location is spot on . Love it Love it Love it !
Gosh I keep having to pinch myself
What a GREAT setup!!! Good for you. and all your buds followed you up. You are a regular pied piper! No "Live aboard" issues in your new digs?
I'm also a divorced Dad with a daughter whom I love dearly. Your daughter wants your attention. She wants her Dad. There will never be a more loved or important man in her life. Good luck. It takes time.
Glad you all made it in like your own classic boat show group. Hopefully the borders open up for travel again so I can cruise up.
Row, row, row your boat
Gently down the stream
Merrily merrily, merrily, merrily
Life is but a dream
Tea at The Empress for you and Lady Zephyrus sounds like a lovely way to spend an afternoon.
Appreciate your positive videos 🙄
Enjoy the new digs. Dream on!

Absolutely living the dream. Those pub snacks are fantastic!

One other thought.... Have you considered renting a garage /workshop that you could keep your vehicle parked in and also use as a shop by pulling it outside? Check out airplane hangers - large, good security, etc.
The local airport is a 45 min drive from his new home and to rent a 2 car garage anywhere near him is around $1000 dollars a month right now.
I will now dream of Scampi Fries, thanks so much.
Love it when a dream comes true!
You need to take us on a field trip pub crawl. Haven't been to Morries in years!
Awesome idea.
I loved how much you loved the Bacon Fries Peter. Enjoy. 👍🍺🛥
Great update and as for your new mooring l love it love it.....cheers.
Can't wait to see the galley project and the cooking that comes after it's done!
Lovely spot with good company😀
Congratulations on the move, two km closer to the pubs!
dream big. you are living our dream. thanks

Absolutely brilliant Peter!! A dream spot for sure. Looking forward to galley and dinette makeover. Cheers
Fun stuff coming.
Stunning...great episode!

I stayed at that hotel before, just adore BC and Victoria, can’t wait to get up there again...what a super place to stay 8 MONTHS!

So when are you taking Geordie over to Port Townsend to visit Tally Ho and Western Flyer? :-)
Hopefully next years festival!
Peter, if you do come over to Port Townsend I might be able to get some nice wood to you. I have a few pieces you might find handy.
To dream is to always look forward to a reality….!
Looks like your living the dream

Cliché as it may be “Living the Dream” is entirely apropos to how you’re living life. Keep up the great work, and keep living the dream!
I have found that to stop a lot of the vibration you can find an OLD TIRE.
All you want is the side wall of the tire..
Cut pads that will fit between the motor mounts and your boat.
When you clamp them down you will be surprised at just how much your problem is gone..
Causeway Marina ? Winter mooring program? Great bilge news 👍
yup!
" 8 months of winter." Jezzus... Glad I live in south Florida where we have 8 days of winter at most.
Engine vibration, different rubber viscosity motor mounts might fix it. Enjoy you fixed .
Thanks Jon, I looked at that snd opted for indoor parking for slightly less albeit a few blocks away.
I am so happy for you to have made your dream come true. Can't wait to see what you will dream up for furnishing the cabin. Best!!
I installed my engine with 3 point rubber mounts.. which works.. exactly how it's done in a vehicle using the same rubber mounts for my 70hp 2.4 litre.. my boat is semi displacement.. and originally had a 100hp 3 litre petrol.. bow starts to lift at about 5 knots.. not officially sure of top speed 🐱..

great stuff here thanks!
Perfect and a dream location Peter!! Now, I’m off to get some of those Bacon treats!!
I dream of having a lifestyle like you!

I’ve missed the galley. Christmas and New Year will be spectacular 🎄🥂
till the chains of your dreams are broken, there's no place in this world you can be
dream a little dream for me.
A beautiful dock Peter, but I had a bad experience there. My boat was broken into some years back while I was moored there.
The marina is a beautiful dreamy spot in Victoria, until summer, when a Piper shows up on the causeway at 0730 and 1700 each day and starts blowing "Amazing Grace" on his bloody pipes. Sufficient reason in itself to leave during the Summer!

Green with envy.... you lucky bastard...lol
I’m still pinching myself.
@@TravelsWithGeordie I am still green with envy,, you did not make me feel one bit better... lol
Great to see the new moorings Peter. Will that mean no more sea plane interruptions while recording now!?? 😂😂😊
Peter, so happy for you. My wife and I visited Victoria last time we were out that way. Such a wonderful location! The inner harbour is so beautiful. I’m sure you’ll have an awesome winter!

Every boat and engine combo has a vibration harmonic, just try to stay above or below that.
