Dude I remember watching my brother play this for hours. In awe with the worldbuilding and how he would be able to solve the puzzles because I was too stupid to understand them. I never realized how nostalgic I would get listening to its soundtrack years later, remembering the simpler times I had as a child. Thanks for being a part of my childhood, you charming little game,
Thirty years later I'll occasionally listen to the eight bit Mario soundtrack. I was listening to 8bit cover versions and my girlfriend recommended this - it stands alone, utterly baffling and beautiful. I remembered some really lovely memories of watching my big brother play TMNT on the NES after reading your comment. Awesome stuff.
FEZ has become somewhat kind of important for me. When someone would ask what's my favorite game, I'd always answer this one without even knowing why. But it's here, always in a corner of my grey matter, making me have goosebumps whenever I think of it. I kind of feel sorry for Phil Fish, even though he acted like an asshole in general. This game must really have meant something to him. But whatever Phil wanted to make us feel with this game, I felt it. So much that I can't begin to put it into words. Games like Journey, even with its magnificence, got nowhere near what FEZ achieved to me.
Yeah, this game is not about only the gameplay or the puzzles or the amazing soundtrack, his value trascend more than that, is the undescribable feeling that convey you. I once watched a video about the game and they say that the game as platformer is really easy and as puzzle game is frutrasting and yeah, it´s true but that means that the appeal of the game is something else. I think that the "something else" has to do with the emotions that the game is capable of give, throught the exploration of those scenarios on combination with music, perfect pixel art, and world building. I think that this piece has the genius to explore what videogames are able to do and more.
Something about this game makes me feel something that no other game has made me feel before _or_ after it. Ever. It puts my mind at ease no matter what. It'll always hold a special place in my heart.
Good to see there are more people out there feeling this way about the game. Every now and then I boot FEZ up again just to feel the aesthetic. I feel the reason this game is so special is because of its unique feel of freedom, adventure and mystery in a "friendly" world. Very little games do exploring without enemies. The gameplay itself (the puzzling, collecting) is nothing special, but it's the environment it's taking place in and the feel of the world and the music. Personal opinion, of course!
+NakeyJakey You haven't lived until you've played this game. I can't think of any other way of describing other than saying that it's...an experience. It's just one of those games that's perfect for a relaxing, rainy day.
NakeyJakey Be warned, though, it can get a bit cryptic. I recommend printing off a copy of the Fez alphabet and number system, otherwise the game gets tedious. Here: cdn.segmentnext.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/FEZ_Alphabet.jpg And here: cdn.segmentnext.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/FEZ_Numbers.jpg
Disasterpiece also did the score for the film "It Follows", which is a cool weird horror movie. The music is of course amazing and worth listening to on its own.
Although it's not a soundtrack as far as I know, Dp's album Rise of the Obsidian Interstellar certainly plays like one. It's in my top 3 favorite Disasterpiece albums. It's here on yt as well. Try not to hurt your neck on the track Club Wolf! 🤘😁😎
Personal favorites: 00:00 - Adventure 12:54 - Beacon 15:27 - Flow 19:15 - Formations 21:35 - Legend 22:54 - Compass 25:37 - Forgotten 28:12 - Sync 37:28 - Spirit 44:32 - Knowledge 49:51 - Memory 55:08 - Nocturne 1:00:21 - Majesty 1:06:16 - Home 1:07:51 - Reflection Since I listen to this so often I thought I would make a little cheat sheet, its all based on personal preference but you can use it or ignore it if you want.
Progress is one of my personal favorites. I dunno, it just... stuck out to me. The rest of the songs are amazing, they can be relaxing, foreboding, and many other feels. But, as soon as I found my way into the Industrial District, the music started playing, and it stuck out to me. Anytime I hear the song, I remember those metallic sounds of the city. I also played this game a year after I went to college, situated in Porto, one of the biggest cities of my country, so maybe that's why it stuck out to me so much. The same goes for Beacon, those tropical, relaxing tunes remind me of the calm, comfortable breezes during a summer day at the beach, not too cold, not too hot, just comfortably warm.
This is an excellent soundtrack for a game with a memorable adventure. Unfortunately, I started listening to this during a difficult moment in my life so far. It was nothing too serious, but it still made me feel like absolute shit. Every time I hear this OST, I would get slight glimpses of those sad thoughts. But I also get inspired since it comes from an incredible game that unfortunately never got a sequel. I hope that similar works like these motivate me enough to make great things and eventually inspire others to create memorable experiences similar to the same inspiration FEZ gave me.
many of us don't have the time to play very much. So we just listen to game soundtracks without ever touching the game. Sometimes I buy just the soundtrack, to give at least something back for the thousands of hours I heard great music for free :)
Fun fact: Glitch (around 30:30) is exclusively made up of parts of the other songs in the OST. For example, near the beginning, you hear the rhythm you hear at the beginning of Puzzle (03:18), albeit pitched down. Near the middle, you hear the high-pitched violins you can hear throughout Fear (33:53).
I played this back in my elementary school years... I was really bad at it, so my Dad always helped me with the controls and the riddles. I still remember being very scared of the rooms/worlds with those black holes in them (I don't remember what they were called-). I'm happy my dad bought me this game back then, it really was somewhat magical.

I've done so many workouts to this music. Legend and Adventure take me up to the stratosphere and gently place me back on earth once they're done. Sadness, wonder, discovery and hope, qualities I look for in good music. Thank you.
If anything Fez II should be about fixing the void and about the older gnome who also has a fez and the camera in his room it would be cool if it was about going back into time to fix the void that rips the future

This OST succeeds at capturing the feeling that the game also attempted: a sci fi epic bursting forth from pixelated constraints.
26:40. No wonder why David Robert Mitchell hired Disasterpiece to do "It Follows".
holy shit really ?
one of the only 2 horror movies i liked

Which im sure was meant to imply a literal corruption of their universe as its "data" becomes fragmented just like in a computer glitch.
I noticed that, that's really cool
It's called a leitmotif, Toby fox use it a lot in his games
