- Used by the Serbs, Hungarians, Byzantines, Wallachians and Bulgarians, these were rooted from Cuman and Hunnic traditions of the past and were still adopted by soldiers in the early gunpowder era. These proved to be effective weapons against slow firing ottoman janissaries of the 16th century who were relatively lightly armoured
101lb@28 MR Despot by Misko Rovcanin
The design is Inspired by Serbian medieval composite bows from the fresco of St. Procopius from the monastery of Lesnovo (Macedonia, 1349) whose founder was Despot Jovan Oliver. Unlike the classic Ottoman bow, these are longer, with a different handle design and the strung profile is reflex-deflex-reflex, and the siyah / tip design is more akin to Islamic Persian cavalry bows and Chinese Ming Dynasty bows.
Graphic reconstruction of the bow was done by history professor Zoran Pavlovic, who studies Serbian medieval archery, especially bows, about which he published several scientific papers
MATERIAL:
It is made of fiberglass and wood laminate with a technology of stable core with a specific stylization from that time on the nocks
Its construction and shape give it softness in tension, speed and reliability.
VARIANTS:
It is made in lengths
47 “- maximum tension length is 29”
57 “- maximum tension length is 32”
67 “- maximum tension length 36”
Strength 25-150 pounds
Bows above 80 pounds (war bows) are additionally reinforced with string on
shorts in the color you want and handle with fiberglass linen.
The standard reinforcement of the handle is rounded, with or without leather.

Original - fresco
Thin
The name Despot is a noble title from the Greek word meaning LORD
Be a lord of archery skills with the Despot
WARRANTY: 2 years

The variety of wood, both from the domestic and exotic terrain, provides the possibility of making it according to the customer’s wishes.
Ash is the primary material used as a base for making limbs, very elastic and resistant.
For handrails I use: Walnut, Ash, Plum, Pear, Cherry …
and of the exotic species there are: Zebra, Wenge, Paduk, Olive, Purple Heart, …
You can find several different models in the offer, some of which are based on their technical characteristics and historical replica records.
Other models are constructed by arbitrary personal experience and ideas.

Awesome!👉🏼 🏹
Special thanks for you help with the research
@@HistoricalWeapons you're welcome 🏹
My friend introduced me to archery and I love watching the historic bows! 🌻
Awesome video! Im from Serbia so thank you for sharing our history!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Croatia did nothing wrong
True, they did nothing wrong apart from killing +200 000 civilians😬
Thats true 100% !
I am from Serbia. Serbs and Croatians speak the same language, but Serbs are Ortodox a Croatians are Katolik Christians. In histori always was a wor between us. That is tragedy on both sides.
On the end, in every nation have good and bad poeple.
But about Bow, i'm not sure that tipe of bow is a Serbian. But i'm not an expert.
Video is very great. Thanks.
@@HistoricalWeapons Another Serbian here. I agree, awesome video. Just a small correction, you would pronounce Miško like Mishko, not like Misko. Wherever you see the letter "š" you pronounce it like "sh" in "shoot".
The more I learn about war bows, the more I realize just how strong someone has to be to draw and use repeatedly a Deadric bow from Elder Scrolls😳💪😅
Use magix
I'm imagining the magical equivalent of a really well made bow. higher efficiency with the same draw weight.
@@MyCommentsRMaturelol That's actually really cool idea
That's so cool. I've been interested in arms and armor from the Balkans ever since I lived in Albania but it seems like not too many archeologists are too interested in the region.
What’s Albania bows
You have nice bow and quiver representation in Church in Korçe. (Moscopole, St Nicholas). My grandma's family originates from Moscopole. Very reconstructable bow. When you search for representations in Churches take care of period of time since weapon in "post-byzantine" frescoes were transfered from other older frescoes thus weapon is very cartoonish and it is noticeable on archery equipment. You don't need archeologists, I didn't need them neither 🙂 Cheerz from Serbia 🏹
@@dingdong4156 I don't know, I know they had them but I haven't seen any examples found by archeologists. I would think they would have been a lot like serbian bows until they were conquered by the Ottomans. Of course, by that time the bow was being replaced by firearms.
@@Skenderbeuismyhero no bow remains in Balkans at all. Only pictorial evidences. Only one quiver is kept in Serbian monastery Hilandar and one in Protaton. There are plenty of tanged arrowheads. The only bow remain is from Vršac castle (piece of horn plate and crossbow parts). As I said, search Moscopole/Voscopoja and some other Churches on the territory of Albania.
@@zoranpavlovic9540 Very cool, I couldn't find a picture on google like you described but there's one that looks like it might be a bow with a string wrapped around it in a guy's left hand. When did your ancestors move from there? I noticed a lot of Russian language sites online talking about the church too, I wonder why
I am actually saving up for that one :) was looking forward to your review!
Selling mine too
@@HistoricalWeapons that's pretty tempting, but I'm afraid i will need to go with a bit lower poundage :(. I'm not young and strong as you!
I recently ordered a 115@30 Tiron, really looking forward to that. I like that you show various draws in this!
Have fun
Great video, excellent shooting!
It would be very cool if at some point you find the time to take a look at modern day Germany and tell us which types of bows were in use when. I know for example that Maximiliam I. 1459-1518 learned to shoot with the Turkish bow in his youth, but what about other nobles? In ancient times locals were using bows but the practice seems to have died out mostly in the high medieval period, well, why? I think you get the gist of it. I would love to hear more about it from you, thank you and have a pleasant day! :)
So far I have German crossbow of enlightenment era ruclips.net/video/xvLjbk4VkgM/видео.html
Balkans- the place you get price and quality like nowhere else.
@@dingdong4156 I wonder if you swallow
Can we also see the bows when they are unstrung, please?
Great video, and nice bow!
That one has been on my wish list for a couple years now.
I almost ordered one last October but went with a paragon raider instead.
Should be done in a few weeks.
Might order one of those next year, only up to 81lbs draw weight yet.
What’s the weight on that bow at 31”?
Have you shot the tiron? Both seem like beautiful bows to me, and available in heavy weights
That mixture of units sounds so interesting!
Thanks for the vid! 😀
That's so satysfing look at these bow shoot.
Thank you.
😊

and how with shooting for standard dystances 30-50-70m ???

It's a beautiful bow but I have a soft spot for longbows myself👌
Did he just put put a string on a club? :)
No one made review of Turkish Aga bow of more than 100 lb. Watching how 52inch bow perform on chronograph will be fun.
Since these are laminated bows with modern materials I don’t see the point of chronographing for historical purpose but yes fun to see the fps

Laaa e laaha ill lal laaw ( there's no God but the God) blessing for you can you do a bow of Ancient Khmer Empire
I'm so weird, you're lefty too but I'm right eye dom, ambidextrous in lots that I do except arch/skate. I don't know where to find how to shoot with my kind of terrible natural setup. So basically left handed right eye dom. Is just shutting my eye the only way? You don't so guessing you're left/left eye dom with a normie. Must be nice. Anywhere else I can draw to, or maybe, can I shoot with the bow FLAT horizontal and aim right eye somehow? Anything you can suggest is ok plz elp.
Horse archers shot both sides so you just learn both
Do you use your hamstrings when pulling heavy bows?

proof servians are turkmenic and not slavic right there.
😂
It's Serbs, not Servians. And no, it doesn't prove that at all. First, Serbs didn't come from Asia, second, Serbian language is rooted in all Slavic languages.
Everyone is Turk according to Turk
